My favorite line was from the Rick James episode, "Prince lived one year longer than Rick. That motherfucka!!" Shout out to the animators, that look Prince shoots Rick when he says, "That little motherfucka is making me work." That look was prefect. Does anyone think Prince's mega success derailed Rick James life and career? The bandmembers seem to imply that it really messed Rick up.

I'm sure the fact that MTV was playing Prince's videos really bothered him - as we saw during that interview footage, and then Prince's explosion with Purple Rain, which just catapulted him to another level way above Rick. I'm sure it was hard to see the guy who had just opened for him a few years back now selling out huge arenas, have the number one album and movie, and receive Grammys and an Oscar. * I think, more than anything, it was the drugs that derailed his career, as is usually the case.

I’m wondering if there’s a season 3 what genre that would be? Hair bands? New wave? The 80’s: Madonna Prince and MJ?

You know I found all of these episodes on funk then watched the ones from season 1 and they’re so entertaining that I ended up watching and LEARNING about people outside my scope and circle I thought I’d never have interest in knowing about. That says a lot about this series. Also beyond the entertainment aspect, I felt the pain some of these people went through. It’s funny and deep too. Real life Is funny and painful. Those country one from season 1 are funny but pretty sad too.

Just watched the Bootsy episode, and that one's so sweet. There are some hilarious hijinks (James Brown accidentally taking LSD, for instance), but then it gets kinda depressing (Bootsy getting sick of being a front man), then the accident happens, and that turns around everything and it ends with a very happy Bootsy living his best life. © Bart Van Hemelen

Yes Bootsy seems like a genuine nice guy. Also it’s important to note how young he was. He was just a 19 yr old kid when he started playing with James.

Some ppl were there, like Jill Jones she discussed this during her interview on the Prince Podcast on youtube. Ppl just weren't really feeling Rick anymore, his sales started dwindling & the Teena Marie camp left his tour after Prince did & joined Prince's Dirty Mind Tour

History is written by the last ones there. Reminds me of when co-workers leave or get fired, sometimes their “legacy’ gets a little tweaked, but that’s the way it is. It would have been nice if prince finished his biography as it would have told his story from his own point of view.

sure but a smart man knows that already and takes it with a grain of salt. People are so manipulative and deceptive I learned not to let that kind of crap get to me. You work your heart out for someone and they end up badmouthing you, you learn not to do that again and you also learn to take what anyone says witha grain of salt if you didn't see it for yourself.

. He had plenty of opportunity over the years and most of the times he spent that babbling esoteric nonsense or conspiracy bullshit. Liner notes for his albums are often riddeld with errors. Uptown pointed out several instances in the Crystal Ball liner notes where Prince's story couldn't be true because the recording dates contradicted him. © Bart Van Hemelen

I’m not arguing, we all know Prince was Prince. And I love when people are portrayed as ‘people’, warts and all. It makes it more relatable and honest. Prince has enough people who both overly idolize him, and don’t to get a good picture. And that’s what makes this series so great. I love that it’s honest recolections by people who were actually there. In the end you get a better understanding of the subject than the usual generic bio. I was listening to an old interview with Stan lee about Spiderman. He said all he was doing was writing the superhero as a typical teenager with all the things that happen to a real person and learned that people loved and were drawn to that. That it was more relatable in making the ‘hero’ face real problems than making their superhero’s perfect.
