Vanity on Arsenio I just ran across this segment of the Arsenio Hall Show when Vanity was his guest. It was a very, very interesting interview. She was spilling all kinds of tea, including her engagement to Nikki Sixx. She joked that she would be "Vanity Six" again. He asked her about the time Eddie Murphy bailed her out when she was arrested for an unpaid parking/traffic ticket. This is the only interview that I have seen with her during her Vanity days in which there was no mention of Prince. Also, her sister Patricia, who was in the audience, joined her on the couch. No, I have not read it and did not know it was out of print. I admired her courage and conviction and her cheekbones. [Edited 11/7/18 19:18pm] [Edited 11/7/18 19:20pm]

I think I read the first version of her book she scraped and what was printed was a revised version. I can't remember where I read that though.

Yes, I believe it is a lot of money. Also I think reviews were complaining about the way it was written , very hard to follow her line of thinking unless you understand her style.

She seemed very happy during the interview with Arsenio. She looked gorgeous and her dress was lovely. She told an interesting story of buying it at some small shop and having it "taken in." Her sister Patricia was also very beautiful. At one time, she reportedly dated Eddie Murphy.

This is the Joan Rivers show not Arsenio's show.

??????? Vanity's appearance on the Arsenio Hall show is linked in the OP.

Right. This is Vanity on Arsenio Hall in 1986. Vanity also appeared on Joan River's show several times - both during her time as Vanity, and during her evangelical period as Denise. * She was beautiful no doubt, but she was also heavily addicted to cocaine when she did this show, so it's sad as well. Nikki Sixx details this time with her in his book The Heroin Diaries.

I think she actually seemed more lucid in this appearance than most during this time in her life.

The older I get, the more I appreciate her bravery and conviction. She came from such a troubled home. Good girl!

Yes, this one was better than some of the others. I agree, she clearly was a tough cookie, and escaped from some dark and dangerous places in the 80's. Not many can survive and overcome that level of addiction. Most don't make it. Some think her evangelism was trading one "addiction" for another (religion), but regardless, the latter was what saved her life and put her in a more positive environment, so it was a good thing for her.

Denise sold her book privately. Which she discounted not long before she passed away for her fans. "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

Her book was written long after this interview with Arsenio, which is the subject of the OP. Speaking of the interview, does anyone know if there was another segment to this appearance? It doesn't seem like the end of this video is the end of her visit. If there is more, I'd love to see it.

No it wasn't not that I recall. But it is on Ebay now for a small fortune. Unfortunately, the arrangement I made with her didn't pan out & I will forever regret it. She was VERY upset with me about it. But I'm glad I was able to do what I did for her. I loved her dearly and still feel she was the most beautiful woman I ever seen.
R.I.P.

Denise's book was publicly for sale when it was first written, and then later marketed for sale again for, I believe around $200-250 in an attempt to help her pay for medical expenses. * Here are Denise's comments about the re-publishing of her book: * My Donation PageI wish to republish my autobiography, "BLAME IT ON VANITY. My book will help fund my ongoing bills for the 23 surgeries i have had over the many years including my continued dialysis 3 x's a week. I have been saved in Jesus over 23 years now and entirely blessed to be alive.I know my testimony has saved so many people from Unforgivenes, Abuse and being abused, drug addiction, hollywood and the games thereof, lusts of the flesh and especially from Suicide. For this is am raising funds for my lifes work in the ministry my book and as i said before my ongoing bills. To surmise my story
She was formerly known as the singer song-writer and actress Vanity, lead to the group Vanity-six and mentored by the musician Prince. Nevertheless, in 1992, she was born again and raised from the dead by the power of God our Lord Jesus Christ, and He calls her by her birth name, Denise."Prior to finding my Lord and Savior I lived in the bottomless pit of Hollywood's deception. Lust, drugs Rock n Roll....i was living in the depths of iniquity versed with carnality and suicidal thoughts of leaving this world... "Sinking down into deep depression I camouflaged my pain with even more makeup and a fake smile." "My shocking testimony of 250 high blood pressure over 190, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blood clots to the brain and blindness complete as well as deafness left me with only three days to live." "With the devil breathing down my neck, trying desperately to snatch and strangle me for hell, I repented." "Yes one sweet day my Jesus reached down with his long extended love and pulled my wretched body up from the darkness. Him only do I worship with a tremendous blast of fiery passion. I live, move, breath, love and have my being in Jesus The Christ. Enslaved to His truth"...I am Denise! no longer Vanity for the name means WORTHLESSNES...we are not worthless.

Here is the link to Denise's web page that she created in 2008 to sell copies of her book. The book was priced at $60.00 during this time. * http://www.blameitonvanity.com/index3.php

Thank you. It is a longer video, but it just has the same footage, repeated in a loop.

I was shaking my head watching that video because Arsenio didn't know Patricia's name. I had to look when this interview happened because she was in a seen in Coming to America with Arsenio (and Eddie Murphy), but it turns out, the movie was later.

Patricia was very beautiful herself. Although she didn't come close to her sister Denise beauty who was just DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! Pat could have had just as a successful career as her sister. I wonder what happened? I also wonder why Eddie didn't date Denise? EVERY MAN that was in her presence was just puddy in her hands. She was irresistible. Which is why Prince wrote "Irresistible Bitch" about her. Totally disarming...it was almost the same kind of "little girl" sweetness that daddy's girls use...feminine wiles..
