So why does she 'annoy' you again?

SkipperLove said:

I don't agree that she needs to move on or that she can't talk about their collaborations with some pride and historical context. But, those song lists are intended to draw audiences to HIS music in a broader sense than any one collaboration or group of collaborations. It is more generous not only to Prince but also to his other collaborators to draw from a bigger well.

OldFriends4Sale said:

what is the issue, she was a part of the camp and a part of a lot of recordings

how should Sheila E move on? yet fans are still crying like Prince died yesterday

so do we need to move on and stop talking about our favorite Prince songs?

Uh yeah but she would have background information on recordings or performances. Which a lot of us who are into the music, not the T, enjoy. If they don't talk about it, who will? The people that do articles that say Prince's 1986 album is Under the Cherry Moon? or that Eddie M left the Prince camp after the Purple Rain tour, or that such in such 1991 song was recorded in 1996?

.

I don't care for a 'my favorite list' just based on what they like. She is clearly talking about background information on the songs.

.

As of yet, we really don't have any background information from Sheila E on the recordings or performances of these songs. She's never really went into detail. Which is something I always wanted from her(And Morris Day... like Jesse does) Sheila E always talked about the music from a excited, just like it was yesterday romantic tone. She talked about singing on Erotic City in her book and basically how it came to be and how Prince has the studio set up for it. Which I like that stuff too.

.

And Sheila E did not sing/perform on the studio version of Play In the Sunshine.

.

she of course sang and played percussion on Glamorous Life, and song backup on Girls & Boys

.

that is it. And she pulled on songs that are not the Top 10 songs like Christopher Tracy's Parade, 4 the Tears In Your Eyes etc which I like those songs, and those are songs not talked about.

SkipperLove said:

Yes, I would think that if 4 of her favorite prince songs out of his massive catalogue were songs she sang or played drums on (if her list included Love Bizarre, Glamorous Life, Play in the Sunshine, and Erotic City) , she is making it a bit too much about herself. Maybe the songs all being 80's songs is no big deal (shortsided but not untypical), but his career was too massive to so be so much about her. Not saying she did that, but had she done that, well....

OldFriends4Sale said:

why so people can say 'of course she picked the songs she sang on?'

Over these few years I've gotten the impression Shelia is ready for her return on her investment after all these decades. She's made a point in stating the amount of time she has put into the studio work on many many songs.

so, who should get it? Joshua Hanna and the Welton kids?

Sheila E. has posted the following on Twitter: "Hi family, I’m sharing some of my most favorite Prince songs. There are stories about each song I chose and I hope one day to write about them. Enjoy" Here are "Sheila E.'s Prince Picks" on Tidal: https://tidal.com/browse/...061885966d

Awesome news! Go for it Sheila. Some of us will appreciate it even if other's don't.

I'm not imply she shouldn't get it.

I wonder if she is planning to write a book about her relationship with Prince and his music.

If the money is right, she will. She probably will anyway, just waiting it out. I honestly cannot see her doing this at some point.

Sheila needs to start doing her own thing again. Stop using the Prince fans to make a living.

You haven't followed her career then

.

Sheila E has always done her own thing, she always performed and done the EFamily shows and albums. She's done award shows and other things. She CONTINUES playing for charity and raising money for various needs. And she has always done her own albums that are not Prince related. She's partnered with the Conga Room club and one other etc that Prince himself benefited from

.

So I don't know why you are coming this way...

.

And if someone is going to see a Sheila E show etc, they are not being forced. She sure isn't using anyone, I don't even know what that means...

The ASSociates are still playing with Prince fans emotions.

Sheila has been doing a lot of Prince related things since he died, Sheila just needs to do Sheila.

Sheila is always doing her own thing. She tours constantly and last year, she released a new CD.

As far as "doing Prince related things",she has a right to do that. She was a part of his life. She collaborated with him. That's part of her history, too.

Valid points. I have some issues with her but I do not think she is just riding his coattails. In a way, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If she doesn't mention Prince, she is criticized. If she mentions prince, she is criticized. But I just wish his older associates would be a bit more interested in his overall output. Very few of them are commenting on the new Anthology release. Maybe it is because they have reservations about his music being streamed. Maybe its because they really don't care if they weren't involved in some way. Not saying they have to like all that music, but they could say "I am glad his hard work is getting noticed."

And they haven't said that? Will it make a difference? The problem is not them, the problem is the Estate.

Sheila E has performed My Name Is Prince, Get On the Boat and a few other of his latter work. But she also is not doing a Prince catalogue, she also does her non Prince stuff. She has her father and brothers on the show, she's had Chaka Khan and other entertainers doing stuff, So she doesn't have to pay homage to all things Prince.
.
I actually prefer the people from the 80s doing 1978-1989 music NPG doing the NPG music etc that way you are getting more focused material.

.

But the problem is not the artists. The estate needs to be releasing the music period.

Everyone is not getting to the NPG Sheila E Time Family Revolution shows. Many people couldn't get to Princes shows, but most people could get access to the music. Except a lot of Prince's website releases that he didn't have reissued or available. But that was on Prince.
