Was this an unreleased Vanity song in Booker? As some of you might know, Vanity guest starred in an episode of Booker (the 21 Jump Street spin-off) from 1989 - and in that episode she plays a pop star of sorts. In one of the scenes, Richard Grieco walks into her apartment, and a song plays. I can't find any information on what this song is or who sings it, but I think it's an unreleased song from Vanity's unreleased (and possibly not completed?) third album "Cherry Bomb" which featured producction by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
I think this her voice, but I'm not sure. It has sort of a euro dance feel to it, and I could see Jam & Lewis having produced it...

ya know, watching that clip above...I think Vanity should have tried to get a role on one of these TV shows. It would have been stable, weekly work for her.She did manage to snag a movie role occasionally, but a TV show would have been consistent work for her.

I never knew 21 Jump Street had a spin off, much less that Vanity was in an episode... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I loved 21 Jump Street and Booker (Richard Grieco in the 80s was ) which was on the air for 1 season, and I remember Vanity appearing in it. Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

Yeah, they were cool shows. Booker especially was very late-80s... just at that bridge between two decades and styles. A certain kind of mellow.

She was so beautiful. I thought she wasn't a bad at acting either. She just had a strong charisma and also a sweet vulnerability in her, (deep down) that made you love her.

I have been looking for Lady Boss like forever, the only version I found on YouTube has Russian voice-overs, which is really annoying

Sounds like Elisa Fiorillo to me. Maybe someone could ask her. Not Jimmy & Terry though.

Vanity was the best actress in Lady Boss. Some of her TV Series appearances I have not seen, but I enjoyed her role in Highlander and Friday 13th. I don't think it is Vanity singing that song in Booker, it sounds like Pebbles. Remember her? She had a hit song with 'Girlfriend' in 1988.

The production on that song doesn't sound like late 80s. Its sounds like mid-late 90s era, like Christina Aguilera's Genie In A Bottle. I know that this particular episode was also released with the box set of season 4 of 21 Jump Street, since the part 2 of it continued on that show. Its possible they did some music replacement (probably not, but maybe) when they released it on DVD. The voice does sound like Pebbles a little but it also sounds like it could be one of those obscure 90s Canadian pop singers, since Booker was shot in Canada. The music editor's name is Tom Gleason if you are deeply curious and want to email him to find out. Cool song. Good luck to anyone looking.

I'll have to look into contacting Mr. Gleason. Your replacement theory seems likely - they did it for the theme song in the show on some releases. The song definitely sounds far more recent than 1989. [Edited 8/28/18 10:53am] A certain kind of mellow.
