I love this song! I remember when Andy first shared it on her FB and I thought it was so beautiful and had such a peaceful vibe. It's a shame they were not able to record a studio version.I wonder if it was originally meant for Superconductor as Mr.Bravestrong, Father/Mother,Time and WIFL were?

A studio version of this would have been EPIC.
Yes! Andy said in her first FB q&a that they lay the instrumental track down in the studio but never recorded the vocals because they never were able to capture the same energy as the demo.

So, that means there is an instrumental version of "U Will B" in the vault??!!?? I hope we get to hear it one day.

That's what she said although it wasn't on the list that I saw. It would be nice if they could clean up the existing version and release it on a future project. The video of the demo on Andy's FB shows the names of their websites at the time so they may have shared ownership of the song.Andy may be able to release it herself as she did with Superconductor.

That would be wonderful. It would be great to have a formal release of the "U Will B."

I agree! She was asked during a FB Q&A last year if it will ever be released and she said she didn't know but that she loved the song and had great memories of them recording the version that's on her FB. She said that she didn't know if she will ever perform the song live because it was such "a personal duet" and then said she was going to stop talking about it.She didn't seem to want to revisit it and said to enjoy the demo version.

I think it's a safe bet that she will never again perform "U Will B."

Yes,the way she talked, that probably won't be happening. Someone requested it last year for Music Monday and she said that it was "definitely a long shot."

I think it would have been great on the Oui Can Luv album.

It would have been a nice way to end the album I think. From what Andy said about it in her Spreecast chat in summer 2013,they tried to record it in a studio but she said it didn't feel the same or have the same "energy" as the demo version. It made me wonder if they completed the recorded version but didn't like the results so Prince shelved it in the vault.

I've also wondered about that. It would not surprise me if there is at least one studio recording of the track in the vault.

From the way she talked, I think there may be.He did end up reworking the song and giving it to Rita Ora,renaming it Be With Me then Pink Champagne/Champagne Kisses.I was kind of disappointed when Dr Funk revealed that on a Spreecast because it made such a beautiful duet.

I just looked for the Rita Ora version under all of the titles you listed above. So far, I can't find it. Please let me know if you have a link. I'd like to hear what she did with it. Do you know if Prince or someone else produced it?

I think Prince may have produced it. In a recent interview clip she talked about being at PP and she always knew he was coming by the sound of his heels coming down the hall.Prince Vault has some info about it. Dr Funk also mentioned it in a podcast.I remember him saying in the Spreecast in 2014 that it was planned to be on her next album. She also said in a 2015 interview with Seth Meyers that Prince called her and invited her to PP and she spent about a week there working on music.

Let's hope it will be released one day.
She has a snippet of a song on Youtube titled Champagne Lights but it sounds like a completely different song.In 2014,she also said that Pink Champagne was going to be on an upcoming album and posted the lyrics from U Will B "like chocolate cake with no milk."
I wonder why Rita's version was never released and if the song was in the vault? Weird that there was some talk about it from Dr Funk in 2014 and nothing else was said.I listened to Andy's Q&A from 12.26.16 again where she discussed the song and she said that they did "not" record an official version of it. She made it sound as though they started recording it,realized that it didn't have the same feel to it that the demo has and scrapped it.She said that she had happy memories of them recording it.

I think they did do some recording. If so, I just hope Prince didn't destroy whatever "U Will B" track(s) they laid down.

I was thinking along the same lines and I hope that wasn't the case as well.I didn't think that him changing the title of the song and giving it to Rita was a good sign.Andy did say that they lay the instrumental down so there may have at least been that.

The Rita Ora version remains unreleased, but is a duet with Prince. It was slated to appear on her next album, which hasn't been released either.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard that Prince was also on Rita's version. Hopefully it will be released eventually.I just read in a thread from 2014 that Prince may have rapped on it.

Wow. That's incredible. I find stunning the idea that there really exists a track of Prince rapping (or singing, even) with Rita Ora that has just been laying around since 2014. One would think such a rare recording would have been released or leaked long ago, particularly since his passing, especially in this singles-driven streaming market.

It don't think it was ever confirmed that he was on the song. It was said that he had reworked the song and changed the title to Champagne Kisses/Pink Champagne.I'm surprised that no one has asked Rita about it.The last I heard mention of it was from Dr Funk during a podcast and he didn't say much about the song itself, just that he had given it to Rita. He was comparing it to other songs that he had originally written with someone else in mind such as Another Boy on Bria's album being once titled Another Girl and it being an anniversary gift to Mani. He went on to say that U Will B was a spinoff of Gingerbread Man inspired by Bria and later Misty and later was changed for the duet with Andy, then completely reworked and given to Rita.

In an interview I have subsequently lost, Rita confirmed it was a duet with Prince and even quoted some of his lyrics. It was slated for her album that still hasn't been released.
I'm surprised she hasn't been asked more about it too. Or that the song hasn't been exploited commercially.
Whatever, it seems the song has undergone several incarnations. I'd love to hear them all as I think it has great potential.

I remember her mentioning the lyric "like chocolate cake with no milk." I believe I ran across the interview the other day but I skimmed over it and must have missed where she said it was a duet with Prince.I'll look for it again. I remember the first version of the song that he began performing at the W2A shows was very different in it's instrumentation and lyrically as well.I can't recall him reworking a song so many times. I'd love to hear the other versions also and even the instrumental track that Andy said was recorded in the studio.I think the music is beautiful on the demo.

Agreed. I hope I'm not mistaken as I'd definitely prefer a duet to a rap. But that's just personal preference
