I find it incredibly distasteful that Lisa would traffic in gossip like that. And this isn’t about whether the rumors she heard were true or not. It’s about respecting someone else’s privacy. Really sad. sad

I hated how she said it but in her defense, shedidn't say anything people didn't already know or suspect and we don't know how the question was phrased or the context of the interivew. She also never really confirmed that she witnessed any of it directly And it is the Daily News--they aren't exactly stellar journalists over there. Plus, she was quick to mention the hip problems as a mitigating factor.

I actually was more annoyed with her use of the word "severe" to describe his bandleading. Damn, he wasn't James Brown whipping out guns and threatening violence or Ike turner. But really she was probably just being dramatic. Morris Hayes made that distinction. He said Prince was James brown-like but he wasn't "cruel" in the very real way that Brown was.

This is nothing any of you have not heard already. She's shocked about the use for his hip issues.
What is so damning about that? A lot of people were originally shocked or in denial because they just did not even believe he had hip surgery, and would never ever take any kind of drug. Into 2016 after he died there were many people still denying he even had hip surgery. Uh we know via Cat that he did X in the late 80s. There are people who denied that Prince drank alchohol. Uh wow, they should be mad at Jerome Benton for talking about Prince drinking red wine during the Under the Cherry Moon/Parade period/France period.

.

Yes, it happens, when people are in pain, and try to manage it themselves, then tend to go overboard to keep on truckin

.

There is no judgement on Prince, there is no wrong in Lisa's acknowledgement.

It’s sad to me because Prince didn’t traffic in gossip. I go back to the Larry King interview where King asks him questions about Michael Jordan and if he cares about different aspects of his personal life. Prince says nope all he cares about is Jordan getting that ball in the net. Sure it’s cool to hear personal or funny stories now and then but that’s different than gossip and invasion of privacy sharing things someone wouldn’t want shared.

This stuff is out there. We here have constant threads on the autopsy and such, that is all in the same box. She's most likely talking about stuff from within Prince's camp.

.

This isn't about illegal drug use. Peoples loving grandmothers are dealing with this stuff.

.

How is it private when investigations are being done? Let me go through the autopsy / investigation / estate threads on the org and see who was up in there...

.

you guys are applying shame to this situation. Why should Prince have been ashamed that he had hip surgery or needed pain pills?... therein lies the problem

.

who here is/has taken part in the 'No murder charge likely in Prince's death/High Fentanyl Count Leak [pt 1 pt 2 pt 3 part 4] threads? Oh we can talk about it but Lisa cannot?

I find no shame in the use of medications to relieve pain, so, for me, that accusation fails.

However, when one, who is often identified as being part of the inner circle, repeats a "rumor", gossip becomes gospel...especially when it's in a tabloid like the NY Daily News.

We are not tallking about the New York Times, the News interviewed her looking for a headline and they got one.

I’m not applying shame to anything. Lisa didn’t say she knew X she said she heard rumors. Big difference. And then she used the phrase “messing around”. I’m guessing most people taking medication for chronic pain don’t refer to it as “messing around”. It was a poor choice of words on her part. Yes I have commented a few times in those death threads but not to traffic in gossip and conspiracies. In fact if I had my way I’d lock the thread. There’s no new information just people beating a dead horse offering up the same theories/conspiracies we got in parts 1, 2 & 3 (and earlier threads on the subject).

you agreed to certain terms...

'respecting privacy' 'gossip' etc

That stuff implys some kind of thing to be ashamed of or something that should be hidden.

She's already talked about having a bigger understanding of the pain Prince was going through so why should anything she say be taken any differently.

.
And if you know of or have an opinion about what happened to Prince, not being directly involved in what happened to him, what are you going by? what are you basing your info on?

.

What is gossip, or what privacy? All of this is public...what did she say or imply that is wrong or that hasn't been known since 2016?

.

What did she say that is becoming gospel, that isn't a part of the investigations/autopsy etc
Again, you are implying something is shameful. Using the term gossip as if there is some dark informtion no one should be talking about. Prince is dead, and the autopsy/investigations/estate information is public.

.

You guys are making a bigger deal of this than what it is...

I will repeat, I do not find any shame involved in taking pain medications. I also find no shame in becoming dependent on them as it happens every day. But just to be clear, I find no shame in addiction because someone who is addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, food, etc is in need of treatment just as someone with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. is in need of treatment.

Look up the definition of gossip...a rumor or report of an intimate nature. The word shame is neither used nor implied in the definition of gossip.

I agree with rogifan, the phrase "messing around" was a thoughtless expression to use because those with chronic pain are quite sensitive about seen as "messing around" with drugs.

As for what becomes gospel, unsubstantiated rumors that are picked up by every rag out there. The theory is that if it comes from an insider, it must be true.

I thought it was "fooling around" but yeah, that choice of words pissed me off. I hate to say it. Lisa I normally like, so it actuallly kind of bummed me out. But then I thought of it and maybe her point was that P should have turned to hip replacement instead of relying on pain pills. If he did avoid surgery, it was a mistake IMO.

I will repeat by calling what she is talking about 'gossip' and you did co-sign that, it makes her discussion of the pain medication, seem like something shameful that SHE(no one) should be discussing. She said nothing that was shameful and for people to start wavying their fingers at her and judging her adds some kind of 'wrongness' to it.

.

You might not find shame in addiction, but there is shame in some addictions:gambling drugs alchohol sex food. Yes there is a LOT of shame, from the individual and to those who know them.

My uncle had a gambling problem, he had a good job and a wife (then 2 kids) my dad and other uncle had to run ahead of him to the boss to get his check to help make sure the bills were paid and she had a little money before he got to it. His life spiraled downward, to living in flop house, stinking, hookers, begging etc. Yes it was shameful and should be.

.

So if there is no shame in gossip, ...(If someone is talking about something someone else did sexually, you don't think people would feel shame?) In high school(senior year) a girl had sex with a guy who licked her toes... she thought it was funny and weird and came back to school (gossip) and told everyone... you think he was not ashamed? Yes he was and embarrassed. Depending on how people view the information they determine shame or not.

.

People are being overly sensitive 'messing around' I read right over and thought nothing of it being thoughtless. People say 'Go To Bed' 'Mess around' 'Dealing with each other' etc Instead of saying 'We Had SEX'

Are you always careful with the words you use? No(I can say that because no one is)
Do you ever repeat rumors? Yes(I can say that because we all have, and anyone taking part as you are in those (Pills/Drugs/Estate) threads is partaking(actively or passively)

There are 2 characters in a 'gossip' situation. The person carrying the trash, and the person who becomes the trash can.

...

She was not gossiping, and these are not rumors, seriously in 2018 with all we all know you think the information is not well known now?, Prince died from the use of drugs, and he was not doing things medically correct. Why did he leave the hospital after that emergency landing? Prince was a proud man, he would not even admit he was divorcing Mayte(for Mani), he just said 'oh we don't believe in contracts' 'we are going back to the garden' etc No dude you want to be with another woman and so you are divorcing your first wife.

Sure not the prettiest interview I have ever heard her give...Perhaps she could have chosen words differently. Come on though, we are ALL guilty of that.

But we are the same ones that love knowing any and all we can about Prince....For me, good and bad. I would say that Lisa "hearing" things about Prince is probably more accurate than any of us "hearing" anytyhing or stories. She will always have connections to his camps in some shape or form. She probably did hear from an excellent sources. Something different about her friend.

I don't think we should ever stop any of these people from talking or being shamed into silence. They all have their stories to tell, and it from THEIR point of view...and I for one like to at least have the opportunity to read them all and discern for myself. Privacy is important on this Earth...I think overall he had his privacy as much as he could . Just IMO.

Then, we will agree to disagree as we have shared our opinions and neither will change, which makes further discussion pointless.

Sorry about your uncle, it is obviously a hot-button issue for you, and I am sure dealing with it was challenging for your family. However, I will not judge your uncle but instead offer compassion for all; addiction is a cruel taskmaster.

Peace

Just IMO.

I have no problem with people sharing their stories. That’s completely different than repeating gossip.

Yes...That is just where I differ. Practically everything that comes out of every single person's mouth April 2016 onwards could be conceived as gossip. He is not here to refute any of it. In terms of what Lisa said, he died from drugs, that we know of, so far. We don't know if there were other compounding issues. To me, she is not necessarily repeating gossip. None of us know who 'she heard' or whatever words she used. Can anyone prove it is gossip (or true)?

She didn't drop any bombshells. IMO. I don't think she would be one, or would hope no, that she never meant that in a snarky way. Again, for me, we all speak loosely. We don't always choose our words carefully. Things are taken out of context in snippet interviews. If people start pounding her., or any other assosciate, for gossipping, they won't be bothered to share anything with us or clam up on interviews. It is the same old same old.

Not arguing...just sharing my opinion. When I read it, 'gossip' never jumped out at me at all.

Outside of what she's already talked about in her sadness in realizing what he was going through, she hasn't revealed anything new and definately not 'gossipy' or slanderous. I highly doubt Lisa would do something like that.

No problem. I’m not arguing either. I guess I just have a different opinion on the definition of gossip. When Shelby tells a story (based off a photo) about Prince asking her to go with him to Italy to see Ana Moura perform I don’t consider that gossip. Same with Morris Hayes telling a funny story about going to the local hardware store with Prince. Or one of the Hornz players getting lost at Paisley Park looking for the bathroom and walking in on Prince in his pajamas eating breakfast while watching CNN. I suppose we can debate whether Prince would want these stories shared or not but my guess is they’re harmless and non-personal enough that he wouldn’t mind. Unless he wouldn’t want people knowing he watches CNN. wink

I hear you. Those are more his ltrue (long term consistent) and day to day friends, also with long consisent (and later/relevant) histories with him.

I probably have a different view privacy too. lol. This Earth is done for him. He's not really caring about privacy anymore. It is irrelevant.

However, for those of us that remain-I'm sure that many in his true circles will keep most of their experiences to themselves. If we are ever lucky to hear anything, I just would not want them to be dicouraged due to 'message board metnality' of bashing and complaning. That was my point in even answering to start:)

Prince kept a lot of the issue from all of those people as well, except for his yes man Kirk

Whether they were currently in the band or long time friends from band before

.

And he kept it a secret for a reason.

We were all shocked. We all knew something was wrong when those images of his sunken face began appearing. None of us knew of the pain killer drug, did we? And neither did Lisa, Morris, Sheila, Shelby, Apollonia or the Twins

Absolutely...Just not wanting to quiet anyone either to stop people from sharing.
