Hi...nobody is pressuring you to purchase a ticket. DO you think to hold these things are free? Everything costs money to produce....Stageit takes a rather LARGE percentage of this 25.00....the room and equipment to bring you this event costs money, so we are pretty much breaking even on this, the 25.00 from Stageit is not making anybody rich.

Its going to be a great event.

Tell her thank you for doing this! And much love to her!! hug

She’s doing this because it has been highly requested by Prince fans. People will forever want to hear from her.

Yes!!!! A not a peep from Larry G. He is mum, makes him ok in my book.
To add, I’m ok with people writing books, I just like the silent type as well.

She does a Q&A right before her belly dance class for people coming to the class. She gets bombarded with requests for people to come to the Q&A only do she’s added it on as a separate separate event right before her class for people that only want to attend it. Then, she was bombarded with requests to record her Q&A, which, obviously wouldn’t be fair to people paying to attend. That’s how the StageIt came about.

From what I understand, there are only 100 tickets available. This is a great option for those that cannot attend Celebration or other classes. I wish PRN Alumni would do a Stageit for all the Q&A they do throughout the year and they can raise funds for their foundation.

Her StageIt is being done through the Alumni Foundation?

no it her own Stageit. Throughout the last year PRN Alumni held several events in Minnesota and I was always wishing they would livestream because I could never attend. Just like the Prince Symposium at U of M is going to have a few panels I wish they could livestream because I can’t be there

Don’t you think it will be up on you tube afterwards??? There are
Some similar panel discussions that took place after he passed that are on you tube. Hopefully the same will happen.

Larry has done interviews. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. People gripe about certain people speaking about Prince but that’s what fans want to hear. It’s all about keeping his legacy alive. Most fans love hearing stories from people who were close to Prince. I take it that’s why you’re snooping around on a Prince forum, because you want to hear about Prince, the man and the music. Otherwise, log off and go play a CD.

It is awesome that she has been invited to speak at the upcoming academic "Prince from Minneapolis Symposium" being held at the University of Minnesota. Furthermore, she was chosen to be a special guest at the upcoming historical "Celebration 2018" being held at Paisley Park. She is certainly well loved!

So she's not allowed to talk about HER son after she had to be silent for years?

It's not the talking that concerns me. It's the cashing-in. It's interesting how the outrage about various associates monetizing Prince's passing is so selective.

Mayte is not the only one and it’s not fair to single out her. Kim Berry is doing an event called “Glam Slam Beauty Day with Kim Berry” on April 19 at the Chanhassen Rec Center. She posted the flyer for this event on her Instagram this week. The event requires a deposit.

Mayte wrote a book. Devin Devasquez a book. Steve Park made a book. Afshin Shahidi made a book. The Revolution are touring. NPG members, such as Shelby J., are touring and promoting Prince. Rolling Stone, Billboard, and other publications have made special Prince issues. People are selling out-of-print Prince or prince albums for hundreds of dollars on eBay.
.
People are trying to keep Prince’s memory alive, and there is a cost involved in sharing one’s time, traveling, organizing events, and so forth.

Until some of these folks start demanding answers for his death, talk about him without propping themselves and their talents up (like Prince is just a list of references on their resume) and start advocating for the wide release of all his limited releases and out of print music (and not just the stuff they played on that is trapped in the vault) , I have no time for any of these people right now. I had issues with Mayte due to her timing, inconsistencies and her selling his old stuff in March of 2016 even though she later claimed she was worried for his health in January..so I was more offended by her for a while. But right now, I can't say I completely trust these others as well. I don't know maybe they found personal justification for selling his stuff like Susannah talked about in her interview about her auction (she was pretty convincing) but I sometimes wonder about all of them. sometimes they all seem like human vultures circling the corpse to get their piece. "everybody's got to have their piece.." not caring how he died or what his music on whole was (other than a platform for their own glorification due to their contributions)

It’s doubtful given the tiny bit of clips they’ve shown from Celebration 2017.
But this StageIt is private and separate from the official Celebration so it belongs to Mayte, not the Estate.

I think Kim Berry's Glam Slam event is totally different from Mayte's Q & A Stageit. Totally. She is providing a service. The woman was Prince's personal stylist for almost three decades. They will be doing hair, make-up, eyelashes, etc. These are services that women (and men) pay for all the time. That is vastly different than Mayte putting on a Stageit where she is charging an unlimited number of people from around the world (via the internet) $25 for a Q & A session ABOUT PRINCE (not that it would be any better if was just ONE person). She's like, "On Prince, I'll dish...but pay me bish!!"

Kim is using her VOCATION to provide a service to Prince fams who want to get glammed up by P's stylist...and her services are not cheap. And, why shouldn't she charge a deposit???? She truly has a limited number of available slots, so the deposit discourages no-shows. That is different from the Stageit marketing tactic of saying that a small number of tickets are available, only to continue to add more as each batch sells out.

Lastly, as a bibliophile, depending on the content of the book, I don't see anything wrong with SOME books. I love the photo books. I would even love to see books that shed light on his early life and career...or those that paint a portrait of the man behind the purple veil. But, I don't like tell-alls about his love life and I don't want to know how big his eggplant was or any of that business, if you know what I mean. Fam speculation, like here on The Org, is one thing, but that still leaves the mystery intact.

What's missing, IMHO, are well-researched SCHOLARLY books on Prince Rogers Nelson. I think there will be a wave of those in coming years.

I think everyone that was close to Prince are “crushed and saddened.” No one is asking to hear from Larry either so maybe that’s the reason he’s on spoken a few times. There are two interviews from him last year, 2017. It’s a different story with Mayte. People want to see her. People want to hear from her even 2 years after his death and one year after her book was released. I think that will always be the case.

In case you didn’t understand my previous comment...Mayte started out simply doing a dance class. When people come to her class, they want to talk to her, have her sign their book, purchase her music, purchase belly dance items. There is a demand for what she’s doing. Because of that, she added a meet and greet for anyone attending her class. Other people, not attending her class began asking if they could just come to the class to meet her and attend the meet and greet. She accommodated them by allowing people not wanting to dance to only come to the meet and greet. Now she’s permanently adding a separate Q&A right before her class for people that don’t want to dance, they only want to talk to her. Who told you the Q&A was about Prince? It’s about what ever she’s asked and whatever she feels comfortable answering. She has many stories to tell. You can’t get any closer to Prince than someone who was a part of his band, married to him and was the mother of his child. People want to ask her questions and she has a ton of stories to tell.

By the way, Kim gets paid everytime she’s spoken about Prince. She isn’t doing her “vocation” while calling in to a podcast. These people have stories they don’t mind sharing and a large number of fans that love to hear them.

Also, you can set up StageIt however you want it. Her StageIt limits the number of people who can join. You must have missed that little detail.

Lastly, I have yet to see a tell-all written about Prince. If your comment refers to Mayte, maybe you should read her book first before coming to that conclusion.

[Edited 4/6/18 6:53am]

And, you know this...HOW????? We really need to be careful slinging around such accusations.

Because she said it!!!! It came out of her mouth. I don’t assume or speculate. I speak facts. Perhaps you should stick to day dreaming about Andy Allo if you can’t handle it.

Did Kim say this on a podcast? I assumed she was being paid to speak at conferences.Dr.Funk streamed one on his FB recently and she was one of the speakers and she told a very brief story about when Prince performed at the Super Bowl.

Do you have a link to an interview where she said this?

I doubt that Kim (or any of the associates, like Andre, Dave Hampton, Susan Rodgers, etc.) are being paid for podcast interviews. Most podcasts are LOW BUDGET. Some of them even seek donations to sustain the broadcasts. If they are a keynote speaker at a conference, they are probably paid, just as other experts/scholars are compensated.

For panel discussions, like the upcoming PRN Alumni panels at the Prince from Minneapolis Symposium at the University of Minnesota, I'm not sure if they are paying them, or not. Since many of them would be in MLPS this week for the Celebration, anyway, they might be appearing for free (or for a nominal honorarium).
