What do you mean he was not in the scene for 20yrs. BrownMark and Prince remained friends and was jamming with Prince and Paisley Park into 2015

Prince talked about BrownMark being his best bassist in a 1998 interview and had him Fink and Z at Paisley Park hanging out and on stage for a song or two

BrownMark has never trashed Prince...

umm let me add there is Mazarati as well! Not to mention it was BROWN MARK that brought Morris Hayes to Prince! I can't speak for other NPG fans? But I can say that I tuned in every podcast Mark did last year when he had his own podcast and I NEVER HEARD him speak ill of Prince even once! Knowing he was the one to bring Morris Hayes before Prince? That Mazarati was his project before Prince got involved? Yeah he has my respect

[Edited 2/25/18 8:27am]

Go back past his podcast. He has said plenty in the past.

LotusFlower was marked down to a couple of dollars in some places not long after it was released.
And I bought the 21 Nights book for $5 back then, (w/my coupon)
It doesn't reflect the person. There are a lot of great books out there on the discount table.

Those were books Prince financed and unloaded already so no financial loss. It is not even the same situation as Matye’s book. It is on the sale table because they probably print it up to many and the publisher got stuck with overstock. That was my point I said nothing about the content of the book.

Has nothing to do with financial loss. I'm saying those things don't determine if a book is good or not.

And you are dealing with content.

If people actually think the content is decent don’t books usually sale better?

YES! I would love to read a book by Kirk and I'm looking forward when Morris Hayes finishes his book titled "The Ticket" as well! Morris has said that his book is just going to be about his own life which will include facts and stories of his time working with Prince but the focus will be on his own career before, during, and after Prince. Morris and Kirk are 2 folks that I can say that if they offered wisdom and experience courses? I would sign up for and enjoy learning from.

I didn't know Morris was writing a book! Morris is a GREAT,funny and humble dude. Looking forward to reading it and Prince ADORED him. yes

Hisself is not a word.

To say people like W&L or Susannah, or Sheila, etc were "employees who had limited personal contact" with Prince is just flat out false. Not a lick of truth to it. Prince slept over at W&L's house, almost married Susannah and Sheila, had bible studies & more with more recent band members (we're talking since 2001 for that). If he recorded all the time, and he used his band, then they were in direct daily and intimate contact with Prince. Prince wasn't as singular as people would like to draw him. He had friends, but it wasn't people he just met while going to the mall and struck up a conversation with while in the food court.

As far as Brownmark - I think people often give band members less credit than they deserve. While Prince could get up and play a show solo, and he has, if he only did that since day one, he wouldn't be what we know him as today. The people he kept around him (and kept friends with even after they were not in the band anymore) were part of the ride and the success. To say otherwise is an ignorant statement. Ignorance is defined as a lack of knowledge (opposed to just being stupid).

still going by hear say english teacher u act as if u was there and knows what went on im so sick of u ignorant people who wanna sit around and act like u love prince so much but the first word that comes out of somebody mouth u belieiving it as if prince said it hisself (thats 4 u u damn teacher )

Nobody here knows the relationship others had with Prince. Not everything is written in a bio or magazine article. For all we know, Mark (or anyone else we wouldn't think) could have had dinner with Prince on a weekly basis.

I'll read it, I like Mark.

To get egg-headed about it all, I go by Levi-Strauss's dictum that the only way of truly grasping a myth is to acknowledge all variations as equally valid, and Prince's life and works are practically mythic at this point. We can use all the different sources and viewpoints to fact-check each other and get a rough idea of how he worked but we'll still never truly understand him. There's never an end of very different kinds of people coming out saying "I feel I really identify with Prince" based on what they think he's like in their head so I think the more first hand sources we get the better.

I've always liked BrownMark. Because at one point he was the only African American male in the band after Dez left. Also i've noticed he has a lot of stage presence now in the reunited Revolution(that i've seen perform twice) and the best vocals . He never really got a chance to shine when the band was originally together. Especially in the new expanded 1986 version that kind of turned into a James Brown revue. When Prince PUSHED him so far in the back he was barely seen..

In my opinion besides the nostalgia of The Revolution reunion. I can tell it's a big difference in the band without the guidance & spontaneity of it's leader Prince. It WAS NOT the same.

If Dez can write his own book about Prince. Then BrownMark should be able to.

Did they ever before?

They may have not but believe me, many associates read, or have read the org. And if they don't, people they know do, and tell them what's going on here.

Hate towards associates has been there for as long as I have, and that's 16 years now. You don't know the horrors I've read over the years, some real mean shit has been written. Luv4u recently said the Cat Q&A was cancelled because of things that certain people said about her. I mean seriously. Associates come here and read disgusting things either about themselves or people they most likely know or at least respect as fellow professionals, and you expect them to come here and talk with us? A few are above that and came regardless, MBN on a regular basis (he's really cool with us!), Michael B, Robin Power, Alan Leeds, Dave Friendlender, Michael Koppleman, Jess Sutcliffe and a few others on special occasions, but obviously most associates would just think that they have no time to lose coming here and being shat on by perfect strangers when they have better things to do.

Those people are not our bros or our friends, they're professional musicians or music business people who have been working hard and struggling their whole life to make a living, they are respected by their peers and what? A few hateful nobodies who don't know a thing about them, people they've never met, spoken with, let alone done a thing to, just come here and call them names or lead campaigns against them, and they're supposed to just shrug and come here to be insulted in person?

Nope. That's not how the world works.

Ben has decided on a very liberal policy and people get away with a lot of things in the name of freedom of speech, but if this board was moderated more strictly, it's likely a lot more people would come and speak to us. They are obviously more eager to interact when invited by the likes of Michael Dean, the Peach and Black podcast or Dyes, because those people show respect. But a few orgers are enough to turn this place into a zoo and keep most associates away.

It's all about respect. One may not like Brownmark, one doesn't have to come and say it here day in day out, and if one does on a specific topic they can formulate their critics in a polite, respectful manner. Not that Mark has ever done anything to anyone here, though, has he?

You are not a messager but a source. The contempt you spill on others come from you. Don't project your views on reality.

.

For the last few months, I've hardly read anything from you but negative things about everyone but Prince. You behave like some sort of stalker searching the org for any post about those associates you dislike so you can immediately bitch about them. This is nothing less than obbsessive. You may not be bitter outside of the org, but you sure do everything you can to look bitter.

.

In the end, I'll say it again and that's the only thing to discuss: those people have never done a thing to you. Therefore, your contempt is nothing but pure wickedness. Most likely you like to hurt people because you cannot ignore the fact that those people you target may occasionally run into one of your posts.

What part of facts do you not understand? I am not the source they are the source via their actions and comments. These people are two-faced, smug, and entitled. I find their behavior to be wicked and it is too bad you are so pressed to communicate with them that you are pretending that have not said what the said and are doing what they are doing.

They do not have to do anything to me for me to point out their behaivor. It would be like watching someone get the shit kicked out of them on the street and walking away because hey it is not my business. I am not that type of " douche bag" if I see something wrong I am going to comment and no one is above being called out even I am not above being called out but I am not two-faced.

I hope they do run into my post or at least take the time to go back and look at the shitty stuff they said when Prince was alive and well. Those comments and post did not vanish into the abyss.

Laura can't stop anyone from talking. Mark and Mayte are no different from Prince or anyone else. They are not above criticism and questioing. Just because some want to turn a blild eye to Mark trash talking Prince before he pass on, don't mean others are going to forget what was say and down.

It's not our place, strangers that we are to both of them, to pass judgement upon what occured or was said between Prince and Mark.

Y'all act like you're Prince buddies but you were nothing to him. None of us was. This story is not about us. it's about them.

What part are you missing? I am not passing judgement. I am commenting on things Mark actually said. I do not give a fuck about what was said between them in private. We can only go by what Mark has said in public.

It is my place and anyone else to say what we please. If Mark has a problem maybe he should have kept his mouth closed but he did not and once you go public you open yourself up to scruity.

You act like Mark is your buddy and he is going to melt from my comments. Get a grip.

The only thing he is worried about is the fact that Prince did not take him shopping. Look at the idiot comments you are defending.
