Who's Your Favorite Band Member? I was watching an interview with Morris Hayes the other day. He's always accessible and informative with great Prince stories. He's probably my favorite band member.
Based on skill, personality, era, etc., who's your favorite and why?
Sorry if a similar thread exists.

I guess I would say Sheila E. I love her fun personality and she plays with so much joy and enthusiasm! I was thrilled when she joined Prince for some of his shows in 2010 and 11.

It has to be Michael Bland because the whole band seemed to revolve around him in those years from 1990 to 1995. I can't remember how many times P shouted: "On the one!" (band stopped playing.) And a few seconds later: "Michael B!" (and the whole band started playing again right where they left off.)
I remember reading a review from the first Nude Tour concert in Rotterdam, which was also Michael's first big gig with Prince, that said something like, "he's not the nervous percussion freak that Sheila E was, he concentrates on his bass drum." That's right. Imagine hearing The Question of U for the first time ever. Boom... Boom Boom... And everybody in the whole 50,000 seat Feyenoord Stadium held up their flashlights on the beat. Flash... Flash flash... It was a magical moment in that rain-drenched Dutch summer night... And Michael B with Sonny T were just the best and the baddest and the most funky rhythm section P ever did have! In Den Bosch in 1995, when he was introducing the band, P said: "Michael, will you stand up please." Michael stood up from behind his drum kit. P said: "Who's gonna come in this building after us? Janet Jackson? She better bring one of them big bad motherfuckers with her!" [Edited 3/21/18 16:01pm] [Edited 3/21/18 16:08pm]

Musically--Lisa (and I also respect her personality) personality--Morris Hayes...the dude's funny
That being said, I think almost every musician brought something special except maybe the poor Tony M.

I loved going to the concert where Sheila E. and Prince were close and seemed like they were having such a great time together on stage.

Dez Dickerson was there in those early formative years and the onl yone who broiught something to the band that Prince may not have already considered as much as he did - only Dez brought legit rock influence in the band. He was actually co-writing with the material for the Time and Vanity 6. He also left the band like a man without cryong and whining about it - unlike others.

Well in the 1978-1979 period, Prince did say Dr Fink played keyboards like an electric guitar and his background and training was very important. . Do you know about what lead up to Dez actually leaving? The protesting of songs like Head, getting mad at Dr Fink and actually throwing a chair or something at him when Fink did not agree to side with him? Blaming Vanity on why the band wasn't bigger...etc . I was always taught that if you have to compare or put someone/thing down to bring light to someone/something, then it sorta invalidates the person/thing being spotlighted.
. Dez is one of my favs too though. He brought a sense of style that was outside of the box that influenced the camp too

It's got to be Morris for his enthusiasm and longevity sticking with Prince through good times and bad and he's still so young. But loved the band in the mid 90s especially Sonny T who is very underrated as a singer his guitar work was a thing of beauty and combined with Prince's? Just wow! Dude with the Purpleaxxe who's name escapes me right now (it's late and I'm running out of clever things to say 🙄) is also a favourite. Then the drummer from 3rd eye girl she's got soul. But always will be Morris for me. "When a man screams, you must learn to whisper" Aura ~ GB
