Idea--a documentary containing non-musician/non-employee interviews I don't know. Maybe it would be impossible. But I noticed something -- very few people interviewed to discuss prince as a person weren't either working for him or a musican who admired his talent. Without insight from people who just hung with him and no music was involved, I don't think we will ever understand this man. I listened to a few podcasts today--the Elisa Fiorillo/Cassandra Oneal ones (2) and his cousin's. I still feel like the aspiring musician angle and/or fandom aspects of these interviews gets in the way from understanding the more basic aspects of what he was. I get that music was interwoven into every aspect of his life, but he didn't wake up at 10 am or 11 am in the morning after going to bed at 6 am with makeup still on his face, heels on his feet, and a guitar already in his hands. At least some of the man's day existed in which he had to blow his nose, take a shit, deal with pain issues, etc. Unlike what Elisa said affectionally, he technically was not an "alien"..LOL. I guess they could interview former assistants, maids, hairdressers etc (we have read some of those) and we might learn a bit more but they are still employees. I guess we will just have to work with what we got..I guess interviews with casual acquaintances of nearly equal status but non-music related like Al Sharpton. Chris Rock, Tamron Hall, Salma Hayek might shed some light (as long as Prince's connections don't benefit their career somehow.) but those would mostly be casual relationships I image. Most of the other kinds of people have something to gain from representing Prince in the way that suits them. I would hope that Kim's book would shed light, but I figure even her's will be about bragging about how she was able to meet his demands (thus promoting her ability and her salons in the process.)
