Mayte & The NPG I was lucky enough to see the NPG last summer but unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the show as much as I'd have liked and would like to see them again. I've looked on their website for upcoming tour dates and it got me thinking about Mayte. [Edited 1/21/18 4:32am]

I don't know, she does have her Belly dance classes, and she's doing good with that.
It would be nice to see her with the NPG again, but it's not really necessary. [Edited 1/21/18 5:29am]

She has too many other focuses now, her classes which tour to different cities, plus her animal rescue work is year round plus she has a daughter. I don’t think she has been invited or asked or that even was an idea to have her in the band, I don’t know why it would be, since her dancing revolves around Prince, when she sang she was at the mic with him. So throwing her up there to do moves and sing background makes no sense. He wants to invite her to dance with them on a few shows. She lives in Vegas though, is raising a child alone and has other obligations.

Mayte did the long intro opening of 7 during the Official Prince Tribute in 2016. I enjoyed it. TRUE BLUE

She could probably do 'dance' expressions to songs where Prince's vocals are too much for them to actually have someone do the lyrics

I know Mayte is busy with her child/animals/dancing and as someone pointed out no, she's not a musician but I do think there is a role for her in the NPG if that's what they and she wanted. Prince thought she was a good enough singer to put an album out so she could easily sing back up, shake a tambourine or tap a cowbell.

U mean finger cymbals, look at the picture above, those are a part of her dancing, and various songs

No, I meant a tambourine and/or cowbell.

the tamborine probably works best with the dances

Mayte was the best dancer Prince ever had. Hands down. She’s also classically-taught, and Prince respected that hugely, I am sure. She can still do the sword stuff, and she’s still beautiful. Her dancing, to me, fit what P was doing musically in the 90s, perfectly. She may have and probably did inspire some of his sound then, not just lyrics. Like he always did with those whom he worked, bouncing off each other. He seemed throughout his life to have the right people around him at the right time, and they helped develop his sound at any given time I think too.

PS: I still TOTALLY love watching her moves when dancing with P. She is SO good.

I thought it was nice that she danced at the Celebration.I remember when Prince was living in LA in 2009,Mayte was doing belly dancing shows at a few clubs there and people were thinking that she might join Prince onstage for a song or two.Dr Funkenberry attended one of her shows and posted about it on his site, leading some to think it might happen. When Prince had Lala Escarzega dance in the Screwdriver lyric video in 2013 some thought he had used old footage of Mayte. Her dancing and look was very similar in the video.

pink, at the tribute it was if she summomned Prince into the room, the dance was so powerful. imo yes she could absolutely fit in the NPG show, that night showed me that.

I sure hope not. | |

Wow,I saw a clip from it and it looked powerful and moving.I think she could fit as well.Dr F said she danced to Ain't No Place Like You at the Avalon and that she was great.

She was the only one to take my attention from Prince in concert. I saw her in the Act 1 and Gold Experience tours. I also saw her and Prince perform "The One" together at MSG in 1998. She's really good and so graceful. Different experience than seeing her on a video.

For me that was Cat, she was awesome and captivating. Mayte did nothing for me all the many shows I saw her perform with Prince. Diamond And Pearl (who performed at a lot of shows where Mayte did too) were a lot more fun for me to watch than she was. But I started to like her as a person from what I read about her in the last few years so I guess I wouldn't mind seeing her with the NPG. And it might even happen if this one is about her..... http://prince.org/msg/5/452052 With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Doesn't Mayte have MS? I know a couple of people who have that disease and one thing that causes their condition to flare up is stress. Raising a kid in itself is stressful and Mayte has the belly dancing classes going on too, so maybe she was asked to participate with the NPG, but declined mainly because of health and parenting 2nd.

I don’t think they will add any permanent dancers...no room on the stage. The Twin r with New Power Soul now.

After watching Mayte's performance of Ain't No Place on DrFunkenberry's Youtube channel I'm not sure she would be the best choice. If they decided to include dancers Lala would be ideal if she wanted to do it.She said on Twitter yesterday that Prince was planning to use her as the main dancer for the NPG and she's probably the most talented that he worked with next to Misty.I was impressed by the clips on her FB of her dancing to some of his songs and she said that P loved her choreography.

True.I was just saying that she would probably be a better fit than Mayte, although I think her performance at the Tribute was beautifully done. She is also friends with Morris Hayes so it's not out of the realm of possibility. She probably would not want to dance without Prince though.
