i think if it had gone dark on books, vault discussion and selling of merch. for 3 yrs after death. i

think it would been a great tribute to him. to give him that silence and truly an act of letting

him RIP. I think that silence would have allowed a real sense of legacy formation to happen. the

type he deserves. a good deep quiet. my thought.

accept that the shock of Prince's passing reminded us that people die before 'the time we think they should'
.
No one can promise any of us/them 3 yrs to be quiet alive.

.

This is also why I wish the Estate will kick in with some sense and release music/videos.

For fans who've been with Prince since the early days, those who are much older, and the artists/musicians/singers who worked on the stuff/ worked with Prince.

^^^ i don't think the majority of people needed his passing (he was 57, not old but not young) to be reminded of that and if that is the

case then all the more reason for a break. that is a huge disconnect.

You cannot hate on Susannah because THEY ALL are exploitating Prince. Some more blatant but if any of them are making money or ge tting buzz or PR due to Prince they are pimping his corpse. It is 2017 going into 2018 and some just started now on the gravy train.

.

If Sussanah is getting made example then so should all the others including bands, ex wives and those who wannabe seen as girlfriendse- It is equal oppty and to me they are all one and the same and if they can do it so can Susannah.

I never said I hate Susannah, or anyone else for that matter. You can disapprove of someone's choices and still not hate them (dislike). I did not say she was ugly or a shitty artist.

No of course, but death does that.

There is a wisdom that comes or deepens when death or life happens.

Yes people (fans) were SHOCKED that Prince died in 2016. Totally. Many of us thought Prince would live forever(not actually) but not that he would die when he did.

Again many of the Associate musicians/singers etc many of us 'came up with' along with Prince. those from the 80s period are older. Sheila E and Morris Day hit 60 this year. Bobby Z almost died in 2010. Vanity ie Denise Matthews died in 2016, Kim Upsher 2 months prior, Clare Fischer prior etc

For those of us into this 'purple culture' it did mean something deep.

No one can promise 3yrs for anyone.

the plane incident was shocking to me. Dying less so, but i had also put my mom to rest not long before that. i am not denying anyone the way that way to move forward.

i am saying that out of respect to wait on Books, Obsessive pleas for Vault releases and the Merchandising of

Prince would have been a nice way to show respect. to me

The plane incident was very shocking to me as well. I thought it was the flu, like they were reporting. Then, when the news broke a few days later, I was crushed in a million pieces! sad

I'm sorry for the loss of your Mom. I too, had to lay my mother to rest in January, 2014. sad

thank you clover, i am sorry to hear of yours as well. guess we were both mourning our mothers around the same time. For me i guess my heart was already in that death place so him dying was

natural, something i could easily wrap myself around even comforting in a way that they were together. a total sense of ease and comfort came over me and was glad even that he was with

my mom as i knew forsure any mothering he was ever missing she was surely giving him her motherly love. so for me a life long fan, it was a relief and less shock.

Thanks, purplefam. Losing my Mom was without a doubt, the hardest thing I ever had to go through in my entire life. I've been through ups and downs, but the pain of losing a parent--there are no words. The wounds are still raw for me, so the loss of Prince just sent me in a downward spiral, because the past 5-years of my life has been nothing but one loss after another, and I lost my beloved dog coming up on one-year now. sad

.

I'm glad you had the strength to accept your Mother's death and found peace in knowing she is now with Prince. I know he feels so loved now. hug

.

I think my faith has kept me going this long. God did not promise joy without pain. Peace & Love. prince

for me the plane incident was my warning time was near. people die from the flu all the time

(i thought) so knowing he was already more slight than in years past i knew it wouldn't take much.

so hearing the news such a short time from the plane incident was about the only shock, (i didn't think

him immortal)

the shortness, but oddly the plane incident readied me. Whether one can sense a coming transition or not, it is still a loss and again i am sorry for all this loss

has meant to everyone hear.

I was concerned, but it was Prince, it didn't hit me that he would die not long after that.

I just wanted him to take some time, listen to doctors, rest and get well. I never thought that would end in death.

yes nod

.

For myself (and I'm sure most of you); it was a surreal experience. When I heard about the emergency in Moline, my heart skipped a beat and I was very concerned for Prince. Then, only a few days later, the tragic news. I was completely stunned. I never expected him to pass away so suddenly like that. It will be 2-years before we even know it, and it's still hard. It still hurts. sad

Imagine their situation. Prince has died. the journalists and writers go snooping around looking for folks to interview. People like Kim Berry do an interview while mourning Prince. But whilst doing so, publishers approach them with offers for book deals and money. What better way to mourn...make some money and say some nice things about Prince in the meantime.. (in their minds, making the best out of a sad situation.) Then of course, they realize they can't just say nice things because sanctifying is not the same thing as telling the truth. So hopefully, they try to write about him fairly without demonizing him (with balance and sensitiivty) and sanctifying themselves. . NOw, they can (with a clear conscience) exploit his death to make some money while telling themselves its a way to keep his memory alive, cope, and extend his legacy (or by telling themslves that even though the living prince wouldn't have approve, the spiritual form of Prince would understand or not mind since his legacy would be his biggest concern now) This would be the best case scenario. the worst case scenario would be someone who openly disliked Prince or barely knew Prince while he was alive deciding to make up shit to sell books and make themselves look better. That would be the worst case scenario. HOw one choses to exploit the sad occasion of his death for money is directly connected to what they felt about P. I guess those who say nothing could be seen as those who loved him the most. But that wouldn't necessarily be the case. The problem is that we don't always know who is being mostly geniune and who has got money signs, self-interest and/or bitterness dominating their thoughts way more than Prince's legacy. HOpeflly, there is a healthy balance...but who can entirely tell???

I just read Steve Parke's book on Prince. I am sure he had his issues with Prince. But after reading that book, I really think the man had fondness for Prince and had some guilt for his disconnection with Prince after 2001 (Prince [ through his people] reached out to Steve twice. Steve, knowing that working for P would be a full time job and take its toll, declined both times, and P might have taken that personally. Steve regrets that P felt that way.-- and I believe him when he says that he always thought that eventually he would talk to Prince again despite declining. I think he wrote the book to make money for himself, his sick friend, but more importantly to honor Prince and alleviate a bit of guilt (the book is mostly every positive) . I genuinely believe. Here is one of the main reasons--apparently, he is the one who told Kevin Smith the story about the camel. According to Kevin, Steve had stated that Prince meant no malice when he asked for things like that. In Steve's book, he states that he felt bad that Kevin's take on the situation was mostly negative and that Kevin never got to see Prince's "Best friend side". I do believe he feels this, partly because after Prince died, Kevin Smith himself expressed remorse for having painted Prince in such a one-dimensional way and he (kevin smith) teared up while talking about how Prince had danced with his toddler daughter. Kevin had bitterness about the end of their encounter. And for this reason, he turned Prince into a joke because the narrative was funnier for his speech/talk in 2002 and because P's career was sagging. Joking about P's absurdity is one thing. Leaving out his better qualities because you are angry about some of his BS is unfair. I am glad that Steve pointed out his guilt over how things went down with Kevin ( I suspect that he and Steve might have talked) . I am glad Kevin had the grace to bring up the better sides of Prince after his death and to mention that he had painted him one-dimensionally and unfairly..Kevin didn't have to do that..It was just a podcast and he could have kept it to just Prince's music. . Death makes people appreciate the better angels of people's natures sometimes. Money is enticing--hell, even my mom and her sisters (who definitely loved their mother) argued over her money and were excited to get some of it. Sometimes, re-directing your focus to money, legacy and good memories is the way folks find silver linings. Greediness doesn't just go away when people die...LOL.

When she originally did the Starfish & Coffee tshirts, that wasn't about a tribute. And if I'm not mistaken it was in the works before Prince passed away.

From what I remember, she saw Questlove wearing an unofficial fan-made version of that shirt at an awards tribute and posted about it. Hey, if anyone is going to make money off her intellectual property, it should be her. Good on her for jumping on it, frankly. But yeah, I don't remember her framing it as a tribute, either.

I wonder how Comerica would feel about that since she does not own the entire song. Also she certainly has no right to use the symbol. Maybe someone should let Comerica know what she is doing. So we can see just how much right she has.

So people should post pics of themselves and let crazy assholes stalk them to prove a point? Think about it for a minute. Unless you have a serious eye problem anyone can see that Sue is not keeping her self up.

My or anyone eles's apperance is not going to change that and nothing will change her desperation for money and attention which does not seem to involve doing anything of merit or riding off of Prince's coatails.

Thirsty 4 Attention. I even gave U the benefit of using 4

You are posting and moderating so who is more thirsty. As usual your response has nothing to do with what is being discussed.

Name one person who was in his inner circle that isn't trying to make money off of him. I can't think of anyone who isn't doing something along these lines.

I haven't moderated anything here so that is a moot point. If I was agreeing with you, you wouldn't be saying anything.

and you get an eye roll like others give you. You still think JJ was slutty and cannot sing?

Hey, if anyone is going to make money off her intellectual property, it should be her. Good on her for jumping on it, frankly. But yeah, I don't remember her framing it as a tribute, either.

I wonder how Comerica would feel about that since she does not own the entire song. Also she certainly has no right to use the symbol. Maybe someone should let Comerica know what she is doing. So we can see just how much right she has.

are you talking about Susannah & Sheila E? I don't see where Susannah is using the Symbol, that is Sheila E

and again, your intentions toward these women disbelief

I haven't seen where she (Susannah) is using the symbol. But why are you not ok with Susannah using the symbol, but it's ok for Sheila? There is no doubt about it, that Sheila is using the symbol the butterfly can't cover that up. And I'm not talking about her tat.
