It's interesting that Sheila is using Prince's Love Symbol for her "Sheila E Tattoo" products. I wonder if she has a licensing agreement with P's estate? Or maybe her lawyers have told her this is a way to skirt the copyright issue. I guess time will tell.

—If It is not one of the copyrighted images that Prince had she is not violating the copyright and if anyone thinks she is they can contact Comerica.

Do you have an email, or contact info? I would be interested in it. You can message me it if you would like.

According to prince back in 1999 with Larry King the symbol is copyrighted so either he was not correct and just saying it or since his death it's all a free for all and we get mad at some for writing books and then not at others for using his imagery and selling same difference.

Why would he be incorrect about something he copyrighted?

The first set of inventory court papers that Breamer provided the court has a long list of copyrighted variations of the symbol. It is copyrighted.

Trademarks and copyrights aren't the same thing.

The symbol is a matter of trademark — a literal symbol of brand identity that indicates to consumers what they're listening to or buying.

A copyright is used to protect art.

The symbol absolutely is trademarked.

Both of these types of protections have limitations, but dying isn't one of them.

Copyrights are protected for (I believe) 90 years after the creator's death. I'm pretty sure trademarks are protected as long as they're used and aren't tired to life and death in that way.

I am sure the variations on the symbol are trademarked as well. Many things are in the court docs about trademarks and copyrights.

The funny thing is that so many now use the symobol to promote tributes, tribute bands, shows, events etc...I see it all the time on flyers, that never happened when he was living, no one would dare try it.

Hmmm................ A black cap with the words Erotic City on it. Not very original or creative. It looks so boring! Tacky money making scheme. I'm surprised Sheila has allowed this product. Baseball caps are sooo 1990's darling.

That's like the default Microsoft Word font.

Nothing says "Erotic City" like a default serif font.

This is why people make and sell unofficial merch -- because the official product doesn't suit them.

what would he say?

She's been singing it since 2011

and even Prince teased-played it a couple of times

not to mention in 2011 he called Paris an Erotic City
