Oliver's House: Lyric: "From the neighborhood ....." I know some lyrics site say it's "I heard, this afternoon, from the neighborhood SLUT DEBORAH" . . But I don't think that it sounds like that. . . Also, listening to it recently I felt like Jill Jones was really singing lead, not Sheila. . . Wonder if we soudl ask her what the lyric is???

I already stated that some lyrics sites say it's "Slut Deborah" but 1) those sites often have mistakes and 2) I don't think it sounds like that whatsoever

I don't think those are the right lyrics either. This has been a favorite of mine since the 80s and I still can't decipher that one line.

Thanks. . . Jill is credited on background vocals as "J.J." and it sounds like her.

Not being a native English speaker, I can't decypher what she says but I'm 99,9% positive it's nothing like "slut Deborah". I have no idea how anyone could come-up with that particular line. . Jill is credited for background vocals. I can't imagine she's singing lead vocals (if that's what you mean) and no one would have noticed or revealed it in 34 years. Jill herself would have revealed it during one of her online outcries. I'm sorry but that would be a bigger conspiracy theory than 09/11 and the Moon Landing together: I ain't buying it unless solid evidence is provided (other than "it sounds to me like..."). I think it's "neighborhood slut Loreen."
According to Princevault, Susan has a sister named Loreen who was considered for the Hookers. So the lyrics could be a funny/playful reference to her.
If you listen to the slowed-down version Sheila sang at the Xenophobia Celebration, it sounds more drawn out. Sounds like "Loreen" to me.

I always thought it was "neighborhood slut Louise", but the Loreen explanation sounds very plausible and it rhymes with "scene" as well! [Edited 12/1/17 9:22am] Just like the white winged dove...

That does sound like it would fit. . . I wanna ask Jill on Facebook but not sure if I should

Reading Duane Todahl's amazing book "Prince and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions" and he says the handwritten lyric sheet says: . . "he referred to a neighborhood slut with the absurd name of Glodean, and an examination of the handwritten lyrics shows that he even doodled a castleike house on the top of the page, complete with stick figures playing in a swimming pool"

Definitely not Deborah--Glodean is ridiculous, but sounds about right.
I always used to think it was "a neighbor who had slept with him"--which clearly isn't any where near right.
