The Story/Background

Through the years Prince made numerous personal donations to support causes that aligned with his values. He may have started in a small way by donating to local schools and charities, but as his celebrity grew so did his generosity. He was a true humanitarian who supported many causes and was especially drawn to youth programs that focused on enriching children’s lives with music.

He was also known for helping those who were part of his inner circle by providing financial means to ease the hardship of an unexpected death or serious illness. His support, which was most often anonymous, provided others with a sense of hope and a means to carry on.

With the artist’s own sudden passing many of these organizations experienced an abrupt decrease in funding. Those who worked at Paisley Park were left with a great sense of loss but also a considerable desire to continue the good work began by the man who lead them.

The collaborative of former employees became the finite PRN Alumni. These individuals who worked closest with him often on a daily, around-the-clock basis formed a foundation with a unified purpose of continuing Prince’s legacy of social justice and charitable giving.

There is a link to a Paypal account for Rosie on her personal website for those that want to help her. I gave quite awhile back when it was first reported that she was homeless.

From what I understand, Prince had bought her a house, but it was not in her hometown, not where she wanted to be, and she walked away from it. Rosie has suffered from some depression and anxiety (I believe), maybe bipolar (I'm not 100% certain of that), and has been homeless for awhile.

Back in 1998, I was visiting an internet chat room, The Holy River, on Prince's web site Love4OneAnother. One night, not really thinking anything of it, I had mentioned that it was going to be a tight Christmas, that I wasn't going to be able to get my son, Josh, anything that year due to having lost my job. Everyone was chatting and unbeknownst to me, someone in The River had seen what I'd said and decided to get everyone together and make sure my son had a Christmas that year. My friend, StarMaiden, asked for my address to send me a Christmas card and right before Christmas, gifts began pouring in for Josh, from all over the country and world, and a few people even sent cash. I was floored that people who had never met me in person, who had only ever spoken with me in an internet chat room would do something so special, so wonderful, so incredible for my son and myself. To do this day, when I think of it, I still get teary eyed. I promised myself from that moment on (and still do), that I would find some way to pay it forward. I have spent all these years doing just that, when I see people in need or just acts of kindness wherever I can; such as paying for someone's groceries, buying groceries for a homeless person, paying for someone's dinner bill when we're out. I struggle financially and have been unable to do this for a little while, but every once in awhile, I still manage to find a way, even if it means I go without something that month. But I've never truly been able to do so directly to one of those that helped out that one Christmas so many years ago. You see, Rosie Gaines was one of those people who sent me money that year. I had received a check from One Love in Pennsylvania. I found out several years later, when emailing back and forth to Rosie, that she was One Love because she had signed her email to me in exactly the same way that person from Pennsylvania had signed an enclosed card. I finally have the opportunity to pay forward to someone who was generous and compassionate towards my son and myself all those years ago and I am asking my family and friends, to remember Christ's spirit this year and help me to give back to someone who is in need of having some love, prayers, and help sent her way.

I understood George Clinton and others in the industry tried to reach out to her last year or earlier this year. I'm a little preplexed that she's still homeless after so many people's involvement.

This is Charles "Chazz" Smith (Prince's cousin). I mentioned Rosie on the Prince Podcast interview because what I have heard is that Rosie was and may still be in/out of homelessness again or battling something. My heart goes out to her and her family. I've read some of the comments and if someone can validate this or try and find out what is going on we should all come together and collectively try and help her with love, resources, a fundraiser, etc. I'm in Minneapolis and my[No posting of email in the forums, use orgnotes snip - luv4u] -Peace #justice4cuz

Thanks so much for updating us about Rosie. I am sure if we focus on her there is something all of us can do to help.
