Birth of "Celebrating Prince"

copied at pasted from The New Power Generation's Facebook Page.....

1f49c.png💜2764.png❤️1f389.png🎉2764.png❤️1f49c.png💜 When the Prince Estate planned its OFFICIAL PRINCE TRIBUTE in October 2016, it was Morris Hayes, Prince's musical director and longest-running member of the NPG, who was tapped to MD that amazing celebration in honor of Prince. The (mostly) original members of the NPG served as its house band - with Kirk Johnson AND Michael Bland on drums. Sonny Thompson, Andrew Gouche, Ida Nielsen, Josh Dunham AND Mono Neon were ALL on bass. Levi Seacer, Donna Grantis AND Mike Scott were ALL on guitar. The Hornheads and about half of the 11-piece NPG Hornz played. Morris Hayes, Tommy Barbarella AND Cassandra O'Neal were on keyboards. While this was the primary 'house band' for the five-hour extravaganza of PRINCE music, other former NPG members and those from the Prince extended family of artists joined in for a song or two as well. Numerous former NPG singers - original NPG rapper Tony Mosley to Liv Warfield and Elisa Fiorello (and more) performed. Dancers - from original NPG Damon Dickson to Mayte Garcia to The Twinz were also included! It was, indeed, a beautiful night.

It was only after that tribute concert that the NPG considered reuniting to bring elements from the official tribute to a touring show. A month after the official tribute, there was a meeting among the NPG, and the band agreed to form and the aptly titled 'Celebrating Prince' was born - so that Prince fams all over the world would have an opportunity to have a similar experience - in their hometowns - to take part in a concert with the NPG that honored Prince and paid tribute to him through the performance of his music with one of the band's that once played with him.

There was a bit of work to be done - and the NPG now has official authorization from the Prince Estate to use the name and perform shows as the NPG/New Power Generation and to use the name, Celebrating Prince. Some have asked what our disclaimer at the bottom of the poster means. It simply means that when the NPG performs, unless stated otherwise, they are not performing concerts in conjunction with the Prince estate. The NPG has a license with the Prince estate to perform as the NPG/NEW POWER GENERATION; however, their shows are not an official concert representing the Prince estate. 1f3b6.png🎶1f3b8.png🎸1f3a4.png🎤

In honor of Prince, out of respect for Prince, out of love for Prince - and in gratitude for all he has done for them, the NPG is committed to working in unison with the Prince estate and/or the heirs to the estate.

In early 2018, some of the original NPG alumni will be joined by those from later configurations of the NPG - with special guest -to perform for you in Minneapolis, Japan and Australia. Many more dates are in the works and will be announced before long!

I would love to make it to one of their shows. I love how they are respecting Prince's legacy. And, I also appreciate how they are not leaving any doubt that they are licensed by the Estate. I hope Sheila will do something similar to put to rest concerns about her continued use of Prince's Love Symbol for profit.

I am glad they are together and working in this way.
I felt Morris Hayes performed the duties of the Tribute show
With class and totally appreciated the 5 hr long concert!!
I think the Estate had to be proud of the colossal effort.
I’m thrilled for them!!

Shelby has mentioned on Facebook that she has an upcoming announcement about paisley Park. I wonder is that’s related to NPG. Maybe they’re doing something around the Super Bowl?
