kd lang is 56, but this photo...

...is just so great. The caption, in part:

“Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
Always someone marches brave
Here beneath my skin” – k.d. lang, “Constant Craving,” 1992
.
Picture: Wendy Melvoin, Madonna, and k.d. lang (b. November 2, 1961), Truth or Dare premiere party, Los Angeles, May 1991. Photographer unknown.
.
k.d. lang, who turns fifty-six today, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and activist, best-known for hits including “Constant Craving” and “Miss “Chatelaine.”
.
In 2016, lang reflected on coming out and her role as a queer icon: “It’s a very hard thing to unravel for me,” she said. “In a way you can’t. It’s all just a big ball of wax of who I am and what my role in popular culture was – and what pop culture’s role was in me.”

What so great about it? Looks like a #metoo situation.

I sent this picture to Wendy a few years ago, her response was something like: "Wow, what a strange night! M looks goth!"

Wendy looks a lot more like Susannah here than in most pictures. I almost thought it was S at first. KD made a cute boy...I don't mean that in an insulting or homophobic way but KD was "handsome" back in the day. Love KD's music. bought her last album..great talent.

We all know k.d. is the "real" singer in this photo. smile

I don't see why some are making ridiculous comments. Just some friends snuggling up for a photo.

Well it's not about real singers or otherwise. They're all talents in their own right. I do agree with the comment that Wendy looks more like Susannah here. They were sometimes hard to tell apart (for me) during their Eroica and Fruit At The Bottom days. But I loved the femininity with the curl locks, the short tops or vests over bare skin. It was a great juxtaposition of female sexy and male energy. Susannah always had the more sultry feel on stage, as did Cole in some regards.

kd did make a cute boy. I don't think kd gets the credit she deserves for being the pioneer in music and gender & sexuality that she should get. While Boy George was a drag queen and made cheeky comments about being trisexual ("I'll try anything once"), it was kd who was like "Yeah, I sing country, now I'm singing pop and I eat pussy better than most of you guys!" Anyone remember the then-controversial Vanity Fair cover with her getting a shave (ON HER FACE YOU PERVS) from a one-piece clad Cindy Crawford? She cheered on Melissa Etheridge to come out as well, who also became an outspoken and bold LGBTQ singer and advocate, singing love songs about her girlfriend at the time.

Madonna's harsh look was 1990, and she was probably bone tired of that blond shit she had going for Dick Tracy era. (Oddly she started out the Like A Prayer era with brunette hair, not blond).

I just think it's a fun piece of music history. Susannah would go on to write "Candy Perfume Girl" for Madonna. I'd love to hear kd sing on some W&L production or influence/input. They are all versatile artists.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

If I'm not mistaken, i believe Wendy played on kd's album "Invincible Summer"

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!
