And this has given me a head-tilt ever since I read it: iTunes has it down that Sheila E recorded "Come Together" with Ringo and The Revolution? I thought the band wasn't too cool with her re-recording "America" so I'm confused about them playing with her on a different song. Or am I just confused (not unusual)?

The Revolution doesn't play on any of the songs on that record.

At the end of the song she included snippets of ‘All you need is love’ and ‘Revolution’, that’s perhaps where the confusion comes from

Indeed she is. It's just a shame she's doing it with other people's songs, namley Prince.

oh come on with the race paranoia

if we are not consciously careful it is going to get to a point where people are going to be accused of being racists and sexist if they don't like/support/buy someones music
Sheila E was always supported and loved on the board.
Everyone gets shade.

.

I remember sometime this year, a female singer/entertainer (woman of color) complaining about her career not going up, because 'black people were not supporting her'. Maybe the music just isn't good.

.

But in this case, Sheila E and the band are tight, but it ain't really exciting like I usually expect from Sheila E. Good music though. Sheila's last album was just not good. And the Boy Meets Girl, was touching but just not good. I do support this current album though 'Because it is Sheila E, yes I'm being biased.' And I enjoyed watching the rendition.

.

You just make sure You buy the album, or your preaching is null n void.

.

Now if somehow it was like this below, now it would be a different story.

Exactly. The race baiting is retarded. I don't give a fat fuck what color or race or religion she is - she did a shitty rendition of an otherwise fantastic song. None of us are obligated to like an artist just because they're black, or otherwise non-white. I am obligated, however, to stay true to my own convictions and beliefs. And I believe that this performance was shitty. Pick another song.

I read the quote from BrownMark talking about it. I never read anything about anyone else having issue with it. But he/the said nothing about her covering the song. BrownMark only replied to the BET Tribute:As far as the BET Awards, Sheila E called us to accompany her on the song “America,” and our first thought was, ‘we created America together.’ I was there when we wrote the song, so why would we come play as back-up for you? That’s my bassline!

https://www.soultracks.com/interview-mark-brown

.
I believe if you read the interview where she talks about the recording of America, the interviewer seems to blur the question with the original recording and Sheila's 2017 cover of the song, and it read almost as if she is saying she was on the original recording of the song.

.

There is a part where she mentions playing on the song(but I believe it is the live 1985 Purple Rain tour that she is talking about). So it read really blurry. And only people who might know the history of all this can figure it out. But if you just read straight through on the interview it could easily sound like Sheila E is saying she recorded America with Prince(and the Revolution).
.

this piece from the Rollingstone interview is just um all over the place
As far as I know, it was about something other than America bombing Libya
America bombed Libya in 1986, America was being created in 1984

And America was the last not first single from Around the World in a Day(the interviewer)

I like the version Prince did at Coachella where he mashed it up with Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain. This is just meh. And do we really need another political album? That bores me.

She is relevent. She did a fantastic job on BET and received rave reviews. The Revolution have shown their true colors time and time again. In addtion, Sheila actually has paid gigs all the time unlike Mark Brown who just a year and a half ago was advertising his services as a bass player on his Facebook page.

Pathetic to throw shade at someone when you have such a thin resume. I think his last production work was with Troop and Lakeside back in the 90s . He needs to play the bass and stop speaking.

Or maybe go enjoy some Bon Iver coma inducing music.

Wow how weak can you be? Is this the best you can do? Just randomly bringing up things that have nothing to do with what we are discussing.

1) I have never made fun of Alzheimers and Cancer. Because I brought these things up in a discussion does not mean I was making fun of these issues. One associate that your are in love with acts as if she has Alzheimers I hope she does not but when you cannot remember basic things in your 50s how does it look.

2) What makes you think I do not have Sheila E's music? Is there a reason other people besides yourself cannot obtain music? Produce singles in outer Mongolia with little or no promotion does not count with me and that was a part of that discussion that you keep ignoring. If you are such a fan you would have read Sheila 's book and you would know she was not interested in promoting that record. WB could have releashed 9 singles if they wanted to that record was going nowhere.

3) You are the one carry on as if your cares are important. I realizes that my likes and dislikes in terms of music only mean something to me. I cannot say the same for you.

I do care for Jill's voice - It is called an opinion it does not mean she does not deserve credit for her work.

Hey she went into a men's bathroom with him. That kind of speaks for itself and from some her comments she seems aware that she should not let him string her along.

You interpretation of things is wrong as usual.

I do not think Sheila E's was too aggresive and do not think it had anything to do with trying to remain relevant. BET was going to ask because they do not give a fuck about that idiot produdcer or the Billboard awards. You know the person's whose name we cannot even recall.

wrong again.
When she performed at the BET awards show (she wasn't trying to be relevant) but part of her energy was definately and justifiably in response to the Billboard Awards response that Sheila E was not relevant.

.

Yeah, I've spoken with a few in connection to that, I'm not saying 'aggressive' was bad, but during the tribute response, sadly the Billboard awards persons response tampered with a 100% need by Sheila E to just release sadness and appreciation in a tribute, without the the 'not relevant' comment affect her.

Jill Jones cannot sing, Jill jones has no pride in herself

I do care for Jill's voice - It is called an opinion it does not mean she does not deserve credit for her work.

Hey she went into a men's bathroom with him. That kind of speaks for itself and from some her comments she seems aware that she should not let him string her along.

You interpretation of things is wrong as usual.

I do not think Sheila E's was too aggresive and do not think it had anything to do with trying to remain relevant. BET was going to ask because they do not give a fuck about that idiot produdcer or the Billboard awards. You know the person's whose name we cannot even recall.

Mark was being an asshole with his comment about America plain and simple.

I hope people remember these types of comments when they kept saying the ladies of color do not get shade I this board. Sheila is actually doing the very thing that Prince promoted artist putting out their music independently and speaking out about social issues.
