Politely I say , that if your not of color your not in the position to tire of a person of color's "Rant" as you put it. My feeling.

She has a proper gripe about crediting. Even though Prince didn't do so much on the original PR album.

.

But I think the race stuff... a lot of people especially african-American -non hardcore fans don't know that JJ is part Black. Eevn JJ talked about that being an issue during the promotion of her 87 album. I just really don't think race has anything to do with it. There are a lot of serious areas that should be and need to be address as far as race and various ethnicities (including mixed race) not to mention gender etc I just harken back to Janet Hubert's reply to Jada Pinkett-Smith...

Sigh, plenty of people know JJ is half black in the fan community and plenty of people know that the black associates are not reared on this board.

You would think the most successul associates were W+L when actually it was Jam and Lewis.

I believe it was maybe a year before Prince passed away. I met a few African-American ladies at my cousins funeral, we became FB friends. Come to find out they are Prince fans. Not hardcore, but fans. I posted something about Jill Jones and they had no idea JJ was part Black.

.

JJ talked about it in an interview where she said 'she wasn't going to go out their and shake her ass' and talking to Prince 'don't they know I'm part Black etc ...'

.

I don't know what your last piece about W&L / Jam&Lewis has to do with anything.

OF4S, My feeling is that until someone is who is "not of color" says honestly with all their heart and soul that they would be willing trade places with an African American person, that until then ,they in my opinion, can't legitimately say that they are tired of a rant. I don't think they can comprehend the exhaustion of the African American of trying to help the blind to see.

Yet they march on and create great music inspite of it all. Best.

Jill has mentioned in many interviews espcially recently that she is half black. Back in the day is not today as you are always bring up something in the past as if the unknowns stay unknown.

Did you not say this "I just really don't think race has anything to do with it. "

My last piece is to highlight with an example of how race has a lot to do with the perception of Jill and other associates being shaded on this board and by the larger fan community. They do not always receive the credit they deserve and this has been going on long after their contributions and talents are known.

Jam and Lewis was used as an example. They get no dap on this board.

Then you know hardcore fans who know nothing. I explained my point about Jam & Lewis and you must be the only one doing a topic on them on this board but because they do not get the shine that W&L do and you know that is a core complaint about this board and how credit is not given to the black associates. In

fact it is one of the things that Jill Jones has complained about " The whitewashing of Prince" Are we not discussing Jill and her comments?

I will also bring up what I want to bring up to make a point.

That is absolutely correct and if my statement doesn't apply to someone
Then I would think it would roll off their back.
It was just a statement to the reaction of people saying they were tired
Of her rants on race.

I'm a multiracial guy.
We talk about this kind of stuff all the time.

We laugh at the 'I can see it' comments when the person can 'pass for European or something else'
Prince doesn't look European, so why would I think he is a white guy. but JJ can pass, Sometimes/sometimes she looks mixed.
Her father is Italian, I believe her mother is some degree of mix.

.

Again this has nothing to do with the validity of her being credited on certain songs.

Actually it does because she has expressed that their is whitewashing and a move to make Prince out to be "Sammy Lunchmeat" Those are her words.

What makes some of the other women experts with people clinging to their every word and ignoring their money grubbing obnoxious behaivor and Jill's comments such a problem.

Look at the Wonderful Ass mess. She is telling us what she knows because she was there. TOB has told us what he knows about Vanity and Prince and how long they were involved yet none wants to hear it but has all day for some old girlfriend that Prince was with for a half a minute who is selling some old legwarmers.

You've just proved my point, people can pass. I know this. Studies and documents. People do it intentionally, people do it just because of nature and assumptions.

.

Yeah, I've been saturated in my identity and studies since a youngin in the 70s

.

In elementary school, I recited Langston Hughes 'Mulatto' poem in front of an audience

.

Prince was not good with credits. He admitted it. And I support JJ in the place of crediting, and I hope future releases go more indepth. I love the full background info.
.
ie was JJ credited on the Glamorous Life? or was she not on the final cut? That is some Purple Rain money right there.

How about Chocolate (the Time) she is on that too

.

Do you think JJ had no pride continuing with Prince as she did?

If your internet diagnois is correct I wonder how she makes it through life? I wonder how she runs her business? I wonder how she walks and chews gum at the sametime.

She has not done or said anything that would get her put in a rubber room. You are just demonizing someone you do not care for despite that fact they she may just be telling somethings you do not want to hear which could very well be true but I guess lies are better.

I had no idea she was part black until a few years ago when she posted about it. I certainly couldn't tell by looking at her. I've been a hardcore Prince fan for over 30 years and had no clue.

I think there is truth to her post about race but I have a hard time believing it applies to herself.

Whoever wrote this article I sincerely want to THANK YOU. I guess I will get called the angry black woman as I seem to be portrayed as for speaking up AND OUT but I never revealed how deeply hurt I was by NOT ONLY THE OMISSION but the SERIOUS micro aggression asserted in these liner notes as my role in all of this. ( in the kitchen???) are you for fucking real? Amazing that the author of this article detected that.

We are living in some very interesting times. And the WHITE WASHING MUST STOP!

I don't have a racist bone in my body and I have always been for diversity. But don't get it twisted. The women of color in this camp are being draggggged. And the black men , emasculated. As if we were some stupid pickaninny bobble heads. And Prince only heard jazz via W & L. Forget that his father was a jazz musician? And FYI if ANYONE ANYONE introduced Prince to new forms and explorations and someone who gave him the " out" and Avenue to extricate himself from musical monotony & creative boredom in music, he found a new inspirational comrade it was Sheila. And after that the many genuinely talented musicians of great artistry and caliber who came along to compliment and bring new added value to his creations. Celebrate all of them.

I always knew that Jill is black and Italian (mixed).I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in a few interviews from the 80s.

I don't remember anything about her being part Italian till after the 80s

I learned in the 80s she was 'biracial'-not an 80s term. But a lot of people did not...

again unless you were really into the scene, a lot of people probably wouldn't know much about her outside of being the blonde chick from Purple Rain.

Maybe (as we've talked about this many times before) people would know more about her, if she had a solid 'album era'

Jill is great in that interview, and in most interviews actually, but hey don't forget she wasn't always so complimentary about Prince, maybe she shouldn't pretend otherwise hmm?

Ultimately it's more likely that she is forgotten not because she's black (sure half of the Prince fans don't even realize this) but because no one knows who she is in the first place. Her album flopped (despite being absolutely fantastic) and if she's remembered at all it's for a small, non-musical part in Purple Rain and for being another in the long list of random hot girls in Prince videos. Yeah, she deserves her credits, obviously, but it's not like the Purple Rain reissue doesn't already have a huge amount of problems with it.

That Beautiful Lies website though, oh man, that is some pathetic stuff. How sad that this is what Prince fandom has become.

She discussed in one of those inteviews when she became disillousioned with him. So I do not think she forgot her uncomplimnetary comments about him because she explains were it came from.

I do not see any pretending when she discusses his harem and making her some sort of den mother to the other women.

I do not think she expects to be known by the entire world but having a few associates blow off your contriubtions is absurd when they were on the scence. If an engineer that most of the public knows or care nothing about can get some credit Jill can get some as well.

If that engineer can toot their horn Jill can toot hers.
