In 30 years, Prince never invited the Revolution to record or play live at Paisley Park. Now, they want to have a say with the releases? And the lies that Wendy wrote the opening of Purple Rain when she could barely play the guitar at the time and Fink wrote the iconic woo woo woo woo at the end of Purple Rain is offensive. The Revolution era was a cool period. Like all other eras it had good aspects and bad. My opinion is they were a good image band but was his most robotic and stiff band by far. Stop overstating your influence. Stay in your lane.

Yes he did. In 1999

But what does that have to do with having a say in music released when she / they were with Prince?
That is a no brainer. Joshua Welton can work on stuff from the PR Deluxe? But not Lisa Coleman? LOL come on.
It should be that way with the various NPG formations and 3rd Eye Girl

I think you read it wrong ....to me from what I read was that she was also thinking on HOW Prince would feel if he was alive today and saying what he would approve and disapprove of what Warner Bros. released....there is a line in there that they had no idea of what the remastered PR album was going to contain so in turn they are listening to the fans and playing what the fans want...not what the band wants...I sure dont see many nit picking on the NPG band and them having interviews and not agreeing with what they are playing...if NPG is having a say in what get released from the vault then imho they can have a say as well because they aka The Revolution was there to help..yes I said help in a sence of what ever way they did for Princes fame to climb during that era...just as NPG helped in their era as Prince was still in his prime...and remember she only said 80% of her wanted that but knew P would not approve of some material getting out...so yes she even was thinking of her former bosses feeling as well....

Why does she harp on about Wonderful Ass being written about Susannah and Wendy(!)? The song predates both if them and was given to Vanity.

Prince had Joshua Welton work PR deluxe when he was alive so that is a bad example there. When did the Revolution perform at Paisley in 1999?

I guess the point is that the "next thing you know you will be wanting to ride his motorcycle" thing is happening. The Revolution had their era and role, but they are overreaching with some of their statements about their past and future role.

Give it a rest.
You were not there, you had zero to do with anything Prince related - as most people on this forum.
Your biased OPINION holds no water whatsoever.

Writing an opening riff does not rely on having the chops of Steve Vai.

She didn't write tbe opening riff though. Her contribution had more to do with chord voicings.

Donny was claiming more - so I was responsding to that. Point is- influence is influence.

Point is- there are different levels of influence. The Revolution is conveniently claiming more than their share now that Prince is not here to set the record straight. There is already equivocation on this thread about the opening riff.

Did she 'harp' on the song or did they ask? She obviously has great memories and feelings about the song.
Aslo Wendy was in camp since 1981 technically. And knew Prince, not to mention by 1982 she sang on Free(1999) Irresistable Bitch and sat in on soundchecks during the Controversy/1999 tours.

Not to mention, a songs origins are not negated by a later evolution of the song.

Neither is wrong, both are right.

I haven't read anything of them 'claiming more than their share'
Remember for a min. remove the name of the band.

1. member was with Prince since 94East 1977/78

2. member was with Prince since 1978

3. member was with Prince late 79/80 (Dirty Mind)

4. member was with Prince since 1981 (Controversy)
5. member was with Prince organically 1980, techically 1982

no doubt Dez Dickerson is included in this

Who better to help put together 'Deluxe' editions of albums?

Joshua Welton?

No it isn't it is a great example of how if Joshua can help, the Revolution members 100% should have HELPED.

the full band did not, timing was off by Prince had Bobby Z Matt Fink & BrownMark during one of the celebrations. But this was around the time he was going to get the band back together to do Roadhouse Garden.

Neither is wrong, both are right.

She could have said that they had Susannah and Wendy in mind when they rerecorded the song. It is positively wrong to say the song was written about them. I wonder if she is purposely misleading?

Stop overstating your influence. Stay in your lane.

This seems to be mostly coming from Wendy and/or Lisa. Seems like there’s maybe some bitterness there or that they feel they haven’t gotten what they feel is proper credit. Not a good look. But I do think those involved with a certain period of music should be involved with vault releases. I’d rather have Morris Hayes, Sonny T. and Michael Bland or engineers like Dave Hampton working on this stuff than someone from WB or UMG or whoever who never worked with Prince and doesn’t have a clue about the music.

I've noticed this too. Jam and Lewis seem to be the same way. But I think it's just pain because they didn't get to say goodbye. Prince meant so much to so many.
