This video is right on time with everything that is going on now. I am glad to see her taking a stand and this shows what you can do as a independent artist.
Get your music out on your own, make a statement and not ride someone else's coatails for the rest of your natural days left as a performer. | |

The message behind the song is timely but as a song, it's not pleasant to listen to, nor is the video particularly well made. I applaud her for making a point that needs to be made but it's unfortunate that she, as a singer and musician, didn't come up with a better song to convey that message. Like I said, I'll still get her album when it comes out but I'll be skipping this song. | |

You know funk which is the cornerstone of the Minnespolis sound? What sort of video would you have for a political song on a small budget. | |

Not liking one song by a particular artist doesn't mean you're not a fan of that artist. For another example, I don't like Sheila E's cover of this song. But I'm still a fan of Sheila E. I absolutely hate the majority of Prince’s 20Ten album but I'm still a Prince fan. If you like the song and the video, then I'm happy for you. Unfortunately, I don't because I believe that not only is Sheila E capable of doing better, but that the message of the song, which is important, is lessened by the clumsily shot, amateur looking video. | |

To each their own, I suppose. To me, Doin' It To Death is better than anything Sheila can hope to create. It's a classic to me, one of JB's best. I'm not a fan of this wholesale sampling. But I'm not really loving this version of Sheila anyway, personally. Her America cover is also generic to me, trying to adhere too closely to Prince's version. . Shame she doesn't have this vibe anymore of her third album, where it was half Prince and half Sheila herself. It worked well. She never came close to that feel anymore. It feels somewhat forced, most of her albums since. (with the occasional gem) . I guess that's simply how it goes. It seems performing and charity work are more important than albums. A sign of the times, where having everything available at any given time has made people move towards separate songs more than cohesive albums. . In the words of Prince: "albums matter". Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here! |

for weeks,I've been thinking that the concept of Sheila's album is very similiar to the concept of the new Santana/Isley Brothers album,The Power Of Peace-----an album about peace and love during this hate-filled Trump era.Both albums feature cover songs that are about love,peace and surviving these hard times.And, both albums feature the classic "What The World Needs Now Is Love"

I hate it when Singers bring politics into music. The fact is Sheila hasn't made any good music since the 1980's. All of her best work was her first 3 albums and her collaborations with Prince. This cover version/interpretation is a mess. | |
