Shelby J post on Mayte IG....revelatory! Was scanning thru Mayte's IG acct today and found this very interesting response Shelby had re a ques about her and Mayte's association. Could not find the original ques but I think one can ascertain the ques was how long had Shelby and Mayte known each other, met, been friends or something of the like. Here is Shelby's response: "therealshelbyj @pennyrose_designs No😊I wasn't in the NPG at the same time as Mayte, but I got to know about her A LOT through my bond with P. 🌈Then We finally met face 2 face after P transitioned when we were rehearsing 2gether for the BET Awards Tribute💜 It was an Instant connection 🙏🏾 It's just like that with some people. 🌸😊😊🌸 She is my SISTER 4 LIFE Now🙌🏾😇" I have bolded the most intriguing bit of content.....this simply tells me that Mayte was not a minor footnote in Prince's life and he didn't discard his memories of her as easily as one might think. Apparently, he spoke about Mayte to other people he was close to and trusted (notice how "A LOT" is emphasized). And, frankly, why wouldn't he? That is great, and as it should be that he talked about the time he shared with the mother of his Child and the brief family they shared. I have also mentioned that Questlove shares a story about he, prince and Eddie Murphy all going roller skating with their repesctive ex's. | |

Busy? Not living in the same places. Shelby joined the band in 2006 for the Planet Earth tour London residency so for that time she was in England, then after that was done there was a break, then she came back in 2010/11 for the Welcome 2 tours. I don't remember if she started out on the tour, but from Europe to Australia to the USA to Canada. where is the time. | |

Were talking about a timespan of 10 years. In 10 years Shelby who allegedly heard so much about Mayte didnt utter a single word to her until Prince died. It just seems odd that this person she is now gushing about wasnt even on her radar when her boss was alive. The same goes for all of Princes friends, it seems that none of them were in touch with Mayte apart from the other ex Manuella. Both the exes were persona non grata, as we all know. "Revelatory". Good word, Clever. I always had ge feeling Prince respected Mayte and her craft and other things about her. They were friends for a long time including their years married. I think Prince remembered their good times and cared about her. There are some things that are sacred, and I think he appreciated them. I think often about something I read or heard recently: that Prince really, really, REALLY loved women. As in, more than we could ever even imagine. I might've even read that here.  | |

She never said prince talked about mayte....she said she found out about mayte through her bond with prince, how did all of us find out about mayte? Through our bond with prince...I am not saying he didn't talk about her, but that is not what Shelby said, she could have checked up on mayte on the internet after getting the gig with prince. Also interesting that one sentence from one person clarifies prince and maytes relationship post marriage...and once again even if prince was gushing to Shelby about his relationship with mayte...he never spoke to mayte agin...so? | |

She said she got to know about her a lot through my bond with P. If she had said P told me all about Mayte or P talked about Mayte a lot...we could safely assume Prince talked about Mayte. Who knows, maybe Shelby watched the 7 video on a computer at PP and concert footage. What she said is actually vague and she chose her words carefully. . [Edited 7/26/17 17:48pm] Baby, you're a star.

I wish I understood these people. I don't know what to think.
Best case scenario---She believes in mending old wounds or bringing people together (thus the reason she was even responding to Dave whats his face on facebook,) and did hear about Mayte occassionally from PRince and was bummed they didn't patch it up. She believes in carrying on with what Prince encouraged her to do while he was alive (continuing her musical career.) I did read through her manager's facebook that Shelby put her work on hold and wasn't immediately returning people's texts etc when Prince died so she could have time to heal.) And she is sincere about her and Prince's bond and was hurt when Eliza Fiorillo questioned her on the timing of her album release.
Worst case scenario--She is an opportunist who aligns herself with anything or anyone Prince-related to get attention (despite their intentions) , releases an album on his death's anniversary not as a tribute and because he would have wanted her to continue the work she started when he was alive but solely because it was a great opportunity and she is exagerrating or lying about her bond with Prince. they had stage chemistry so I really hope its the best case scenario.
NOt the best case but not the worst case scenario - a complicated combination of most of the worst case and best case descriptions above (except the fake bond that is) with a lot of self justification and denial.

Shelby and Mayte share the same management company and manager. Seems to me that’s how they became tight. Paisley Park is in your heart

And according to Funkenberry she was around when he has LA house parties. That would have been 2006-2009 era. I believe Prince came back to Minnesota funk time in late 2009. I can understand why prince snatched her up and got along with her so well. Paisley Park is in your heart

Is it this Monica McKnight lady because she stated that she worked for Shelby First and then Prince liked what she did for Shelby and employed her in some capacity about four years ago. I am assuming that managing Mayte is a recent thing, but i could be wrong.

Does it matter if Prince never ever spoke another word about Mayte? .
NO matter what Mayte is the first wife, she is the one who reeled in the Playboy, Playa. She was with him all the time in public, in concerts in videos. I am not understanding it. I do not get the need to say Prince "talked" about Mayte . . Good for Shelby and Mayte that they found each other as friends withing the Purple kingdom but if nobody in the Purple Kingdom never , ever spoke another word to Mayte who cares? Mayte was THE ONE - she carried Prince's child. She was his mother, sister, wife, friend or whatever Prince called it (forgive me for not remembering). I think that was and is more important than Mayte and Shelby and chatter. I find it futile. Mayte was the wife. Legal wife. NO matter who liked or likes her - Prince chose to marry Mayte. I do not care why he did it HE DID IT. . Again if no one ever spoke her name around Prince again Mayte is validated. Her videos and that Betch By Golly Wow vid - what more do people want? They had what they had and I am confused why it matters whatever happened after- . Prince moved on but that will never take away from what is well documented about the time Mayte was by his side as his employee and then wife and mother of his child. It was an era in his life. It was a unique time. Nothing and no one not even Prince can erase it nor could he erase it. Mayte is validated. She was his wife. That is A LOT and he publicly paraded her around with her pregnancy so he was not shame of her. Mayte should stop trying so hard and bask in WHAT is hers to bask in and that was special. NO ONE else has that distinction, not even M2, or any of the other women in his life. . If I was M1 I would wear my distinction proudly and not worry about what happened afterward. She was first wife, and ONLY woman carrying his seed beside him proudly not in secret. Prince was proud to of her being pregnant. So no matter what came after she should not care. She needs to own what she did have- She has a distinct spot no one can touch. | |

How is it obvious that he talked about her? Shelby did not say that, and I have never heard anyone else say that prince talked about mayte after they divorced. | |
