Then..I see KJ is the drummer & I had an immediate feeling of discomfort..rightly or wrongly. Given the circumstances which are grey at best, the rumours etc it puts me off totally & I wont be going. The flipside is that you can assume that he has been asked by the band & they are comfortable with him there. Either way until he is in the clear I cannot support them. How about you?

No, of course not.

It gave me a pause for less than half a second. For most people, Michael B would be the preeminent NPG drummer. However, if I was lucky enough to be in the vicinity of the concerts I would be honored to see Kirky J and the rest of the band. He paid his dues, and my ambiguity about Emancipations production aside, he paid his dues and was there for Prince in a lot of situations. I mean he was the best man at P's wedding to Mayte.

I am sad that Michael - my fave drummer - isnt there.
Was it Kirky J at the Hyde Park show? If so, he is drumming a lot better than I expected

I willl keep it totally 100-yes I would at least think about not going to the NPG concert if I saw that Kirky J was the drummer. Actually, I am not that excited about the NPG so it would be another reason not to go see them. At the tribute concert in October, they switched drummers and didn't announce that Kirk was playing. No one said anything about who was on drums the entire time and you could see him clearly.

The NPG is ultra cool. They are performing the hits and songs that werent big hits of the 80s, like ´Uptown´ AND stuff from the 90s like Call the Law, 7, Live 4 Love, Gett Off.

Kip Blackshire does good job, but I would go because these guys are extremely funky.

Kirks drumming was always fine, And Micheals' huge talent was recognized and loved by Prince. We are all different, for different reasons, all love for the beautiful music we've been blessed with

Yes. I'm sympathetic to the situation Kirk was in... to a point. At the end of the day I just don't want to see him. He enabled, he lied to investigators, he was part of the problem... just YUKK!

about 6-7 years ago I'm at my parents house, at the dinner table with my dad and my younger brother. Now my ole man has always been slim. But solid. I looked over at him and in my head I shout 'Oh my God, he is skin and bones' ... that isn't skinny shaming. He was literally bones with skin hanging off him, acting as if nothing was wrong. Come to find out he had a bleeding ulcer and almost died. My reaction was not shaming, it was shock and concern.

i wouldn't want him only playing songs pre 1987 with old people (people who look way older than him). that's old.

First of all, Bobby probably isn't healthy enough for a long full scale tour. And his quality of drumming can't possibly be close to what it was for more than 45 minutes.

There have been threads where someone made mean comments such as most of the threads calling Prince's relatives out of their names and I have spoken up about it. I do not frequent most W&L threads and since you did not link, I can't look to see if I read those comments. Generally speaking I would say that calling BobbyZ old and fat is out of line.

Just a note: I dont have nothing personal against Kirk. It´s musical. I always felt he wasnt a great drummer like Michael, Sheila and Blackwell. Same feeling I have about Bobby.
And Michael and Sonny were my fave rhythm section ever. So, it would be frustrating to see the NPG without them, but I would go anyway.

slightly off subject but I a glad that Michale Bland will be part of the tour rota with the NPG. Seen them many times on TGE tour / after shows etc & as we all he know he is a beast of a drummer!

One of the most disheartening things about Prince's death has been people's indifference to accountability. I don't need anyone to got to jail, but I would feel better about his associates intentions if people like Meron and Kirk Johnson weren't at least asked by Prince's musical associates to explain or account for enabling Prince's addiction. Maybe, Kirk did express regret for mistakes made to the NPG folks but he certainly did not so to the public. If his attitude was the same to them as it was in that ET interview, than I have no respect for anyone of those folks exploiting Prince with little regard for the tragedy of his death.
