One of my favorites by her. I dug the b side too You Turn Me Up. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

The 3rd single Thinking About You was nice too. Too bad this was as good as it got for the band in terms of chart success. The followup album wasn't bad but definitely didn't have the juice their debut did. Don't laugh at my funk

speaking of "You Turn Me Up",on one of my Prince bootleg casettes, there is an early demo of that track by Jesse Johnson. It's just a drum machine beat and he's singing "girl you turn me up.....baby you turn me up".I guess it's a song he was working on during the 'Ice Cream Castles' sessions in '84.

SHE WON'T LET GO I felt it in the air A strange look in my eyes ...
She's so untamed She has no shame She Won't Let Go She's Beautiful
She led me to her bedroom said I'd feel no pain She made me love her more than once ...
She's so untamed She has no shame She Won't Let God She's Beautiful

reprinted in ROCK & SOUL * APRIL 1986 THE PRINCE INTERVIEW By Michael Shore
How do you feel about Jesse Johnson leaving the Time? Have you heard his album, and if so, what do you think of it? Jesse and Morris and Jerome and Jimmy and Terry had the makings of one of the greatest R&B bands in history. I could be a little pretentious in saying that, but it's truly the way I feel. There's no one that could wreck a house like they could. I was a bit troubled by their demise, but like I said before, it's important that one's happy first and foremost. And, as far as Jesse's record goes, chocolate. You know.

I always wondered what Prince thought of this...

I remember in the summer of '85,I spent alot of time listening to Jesses' album and Andre Cymone's AC album. At that time,Prince was kinda moving away from the synth-based Minneapolis sound (choosing to explore psychedelic styles, along with rock and pop) but I was able to get my dose of that funky Minneapolis sound from his ex-proteges.

I agree. some GREAT, dancable mid-80s synth-funk. Jesse absorbed a lot from Prince then put is own style to it I'll see you tonight..

. this is my favorite Ta Mara/Seen jam. nice funky slap bass & great, almost hypnotic rock guitar. I prefer the "remix version" over the original album version - it's longer.. & at the very end of the track Ta Mara whispers : "don't fuck with me"..
I'll see you tonight..

it would have been cool to see these two work together more often. They collaborated on "Shortberry Strawcake" and that's one of the funkiest jams on Sheila's album.
