Jesse Johnson 2017 You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I was listening to Shockadelica earlier today. Listen to that shit on Spotify. That album is flawless. His band was kicking ass then. Don't laugh at my funk

His tone is amazing. I didn't know he's a left-handed guitarist until I saw the reverse headstock strat.

I can respect that. I just dig Shockadelica a little better. For me on Every Shade Jesse came out hitting on the album's first 3 tracks then for me there were a couple of pedestrian tracks on it. For me Shockadelica was a lot more live with his band kicking ass versus Every Shade where Jesse played damn near all the instruments and it sounding more one dimensional but Evvery Shade still is a winner with me. Don't laugh at my funk

If it wasn't 4 Bruno Mars, Jesse (and Jerome) wouldn't have been a part of the 2017 Grammy Tribute. Story goes Bruno stepped 2 Jimmy Jam & said He would NOT take part if it wasn't THE Original Band!! They were gonna try & pull some Part-Time sh*t!!! Bruno was NOT havin' it!!! Besides: wasn't Jimmy & Terry FIRED by the time Jungle Love & The Bird came out??

I would've requested the very same. Yes, Jam and Lewis weren't apart of the group by the time "Jungle Love" dropped.

Prince fired Jimmy & Terry because they missed a gig while producing the S.O.S Band in Atlanta. They were snowed in and missed a gig. Morris, Jesse, and other bandmates were pissed. Monte was so pissed he actually quit. Don't laugh at my funk

Jellybean quit too. Prince asked Monte & Jellybean to return. I think Terry was asked to come back too. Only Jellybean accepted, because he said he just started a family and needed the money from doing the movie. Morris only stayed because he was under contract already to do the Purple Rain movie. After that, he was free to leave. Prince asked Jesse to lead The Time, but Jesse wasn't interested in that. Jesse took a couple of the replacement members for his band The Revue and the leftovers became The Family. Great move by Jesse to move on as a solo act with his own band. I don't think it would have been a good move for Jesse to lead the Time as I don't think Time fans would have been interested without Morris personality and schict plus financially it probably wouldn't have made sense for Jesse as Prince would have continued to get the Lion's share of the money from The Time being under contract to him. Don't laugh at my funk

Back in the day I recall reading Jessie Johnson was working on Janet Jackson's new album. I think the tracks were supposed to be on the album that would eventually become Rhythm Nation. I guess in the end it didnt make the final cut.

When did this thread get moved to this part of the site? It's not where I posted it, it was in the non-Prince music section, where I post all of my threads.
