Research. I am aware that Thompson, Bland and Barberello (sic) were touring with Nick Jonas because I read it in an interview. I listen to all of Prince's music including NPG and because I went back and read Bland's interviews on here. Prince died 15 months ago. Obviously, I had time to do some research.
I can't tell if you are being sarcastic because I am not sure why you keep bringing up new fanhood.

I went back and looked at older threads. You know I have done that. So cut it out. I have been reading this site since the week of Prince's death. I joined later. The custom search option allows me to type in a song title or topic and then older threads pop up. So a myriad of topics popped up. NOt everything on the older threads was bad but enough of it sure was. I wasn't sure why half of the posters were even on the site because they had seemed to have given up on Prince as a human being and as a musician.

--Of course, you are not going to see anything wrong with anything said about Prince by his associates if you assume that breaking up bands was as easy emotionally and personally for Prince as buying a new brand of toilet paper. It sounds like at least for the Revolution, Prince might have actually had a tough time breaking up that band. "In this Bed I scream"...

No, seriously? This is not a Michael Jackson fansite. Prince is getting less vemon now (and there are some fans who stay positive all the time) but do a majority of the fans have to rip him a new asshole over everything before you would not think he was sanctified on here.

Can someone please point me in the direction where to find the article that cbarnes3121 speaks of where Stevie Nicks mentioned Prince trying to give her Purple Rain in 1979? Did anyone else read this? Was she speaking of the lyrics or the music? This is meaningful to me as I'm in the process of doing research on the song Purple Rain. Thanks in advance. Cbarnes is very loopy in his Prince posts and Prince history He has been failing basic Purpleology 101 for a while now. . Stevie Nicks became friends with Prince in 1983. Which is also when Prince played synth on her song Stand Back in 1983. The demo of the song Stand Back was created on her wedding day January 29th 1983. Later in time, whether it was the next day, next month. -released May 19th, 1983. . She was talking about some music. Which was most likely already being developed by Prince and his band. Purple Rain sessions music started early 1983 . So Cbarnes3121 is showing his/her ignorance and complete bias, whe she/he goes to this length of saying Prince created the demo in 1979. Cbarnes3121. As an aside, the mentioning of the song Purple Rain was already in the script of "Dreams" by May 1983, before the live recording on August 3rd 1983. Cbarnes3121, If you really did read an article where Stevie Nicks states this, I'd like to read it myself. Please provide a link if you can, or point me in the direction where I can read it. Is it possible that you mixed up the dates? [Edited 7/18/17 6:24am]

IF you have went back and read many threads why are you claiming to KNOW or make assumptions of other posters ...many of us orgers have been here for 12 years plus...some have the setting set on to NOT show what threads we post on...yes this is a feature under settings...and many knew he was a human being ...and some knew him personally music wise others in different ways....I think you need a little breather and stop getting all riled up over the simplest thing....many got to see Prince in concert many times and felt his energy...the man is gone let him rest in peace for pete sake and stop trying to bait people and stop trying to ensue a arguement dont like what I say ...so be it ....but your trying to instigate a fight over petty crap its pathetic imho...

I wasn't talking to you specifically (well, I am now I guess) . How am I instigating a fight. My tone was a bit angry because the person who stated that people on this site think light shined out of Prince's butt (and that reasonable discussion about Prince is impossible) is completely off the mark and unfair to fans of Prince who don't need to hate on him for everything... I was defending Prince fans being generalized. There are maybe less than a handful of fans on this fansite who think of Prince in strictly glowing terms. This site was rather critical of Prince before his death. It is less so now, but it still has people who point out what he didn't give enough credit for, still has people who call him on his womanizing, still has people who dislike certain eras, still has people who think he is overrated in some respects, still contains people who think of the man and the artist as a mixed bag and even still has people who think he had no friends and that his death was karma. I reckon that a majority of the people on his site think of him as the way Mayte described him "good, bad, beautiful and sad". . I also reckon that prior to his death, for some ex-fans, he was mostly a target of a disgruntled type of criticism that didn't seem to even afford him the status of 'mixed bag'. PeteSilas, despite the cynicism he admits to, is one of the most reasonable fans on here and yet even he admits that this site was overflowing with negativity directed at Prince before Prince's death.. A measured at times sympathetic view of Prince does not equate to hagiography or sugarcoating.
And since you brought it up (and you stepped into this argument) , you stated (in an old thread on your profile page) that you hadn't bought a prince album since Graffitti Bridge and had been continuing to buy W and L music. You are entitled to your musical tastes but you were one of those people who gave up on him as a human and a musician (or at least a recording artist) . Your prerogative. But do Prince fans need to be as anti-Prince (post-Revolution Prince) as you were in those older posts to be considered critical thinkers?? Are fans allowed to like his later work without others stating that they are people who think of Prince as a God.
I notice your Lisa picture. I think Lisa is a genius but being a Lisa and Wendy fan and going to the Revolution reunion doesn't necessarily have to do with much love for Prince (especially seeing them perform live again after many years is partly what is enticing.) I have no idea what you think about Prince now, or why or why not you might see a Revolution reunion.Don't get me wrong. But that poster on this thread acting like this site was filled with people loving on Prince is a misrepresentation.
I have edited this frigging post too many times. But ultimately I am trying to advocate for a measured empathetic view of all the people involved (and that includes Prince.) Prince should not be considered the only one NOT above reproach. Rogifan was right, is all I am saying, when he/she asked "who is doing that?" to a statement about fans on this site all sanctifying Prince.
BTW, I am not the one who started this anti-wendy thread and I have been rather measured about her. I don't hate W and L (but like Prince, the light doesn't shine out their asses either. And all musicians have egos, not just Prince.) Also, I have seen Prince live (only for 12 minutes during a halftime show in the rain, but i have physically been in the same stadium as him while he performed.) I wish I could have seen him more but the energy surprisingly comes through even in youtube concerts and clips.

Cbarnes3121 is not mixed up. She/He just doesn't try. . All Cbarnes had to do was do a general search of Stevie Nicks talking about Purple Rain. . Dr Fink talks about either during, the latter part of the 1999 tour or during a Bob Seger show, Prince and him talking about what made Bob Seger so popular, and this was leading into the beginnings of what became Purple Rain. . . The live recording is the 'almost' finished work of the song. Prince and the band were working on the song(s) as early as early 1983. . 'Dreams' was William Blinn's title to the rough draft from Prince's purple notebook. Al Magnoli was brought on after Blinn to rework it. Prince told Magnoli during a drive that they already had about 100 songs produced for the script. I don't know if the earliest draft had Purple Rain in it. Al Magnoli's script did though. . Wendy Melvoin: Prince came in with the melody and the words and an idea of what the verses were like. I came up with the open chords, and everybody started playing there parts. . . I can help you out if you want. I have tones of information collected. And can help with a timeline of the creation of the song, what it means, etc Purple Rain was the next music thread I was going to do. I appreciate that song so much.

Do whatever you want. Like whatever you like. I wasn't even talking to you in the first place. But you confronted me first. If Prince fans don't want to hate on him or only listen to certain eras or associates, it doesn't make them delusional. ANd this website is not full of synchophants obviously. I said myself that I am not sure what you think about Prince now. I don't care either. What I am saying is that most people on this site don't think the sun shines out of his ass. The only people saying that his fans are like that are the ones who think Prince sucks in almost everyway imaginable and has since 1987 or are people who haven't read much on this site. If any defense of Prince as a man is considered the equivalent of thinking of him as a God then I guess I am guilty. But that is not how I see it.
My long posts were simply the result of a conversation in which someone posted something about Prince fans being unreasonable folks who see no flaws in Prince. Rogifan implied that that was not the case and I agreed with her/him by stating the obvious--that some nasty angry stuff has been written about Prince on this site. You then responded to me. To which,I looked up your profile and found an angry post by yourself that clearly stated that you stopped buying his work and was angry at him for making it tough for his associates to tour and release Prince-connected songs. Your posts proved that the people on this site could get pretty mad at the man and didn't follow all his musical eras. No one said you need to defend your opinions. But maybe people ought to stop acting like fans who don't feel the same as you might (which going strictly by those older posts--you seem to prefer his 80's work) are a bunch of delusional idiots.

Before Prince died people quit here all the time because they got sick of ridiculous fams who just wanted to start threads about Prince's hair in 1990 and how he invented all genres of music. There's always been as much over the top positivity as unnecessary negativity.
Unfortunately a lot of good posters left as a result of uncritical famming out by people who had only just moved on from Michael Jackson and think all fan communities should be like his. So in conclusion, no it was never a pure hot bed of negativity unless you went looking, its just been the same old shit for as long as its been around. Same as it ever was. talking about Prince's hair on a fansite--oh the travesty. Positivity(or as close as you can get to it and still be honest) on a fansite is sort of the point. Measured and honest analysis of his output is also a good idea but light-hearted swooning over a guy known for his sex appeal shouldn't turn any fans away.
I have been on other fansites in the past and they were balanced and nuanced. The venom was not there and unreasonable blind devotion to everything ones does wasn't either.
I am sorry but other than objectifying Prince's appearance and occassional fan who thought Prince pulled music from the heavens, more stuff was negative than positive that I read.. Even looking up Prince attending that Warriors game will Demaris, it was almost all negativity about his life choices. Hell, I even remember reading threads about him being totally capable of beating up women and way too many posters believing an unstable woman known for inaccurate inconsistent stories over him. Is it unreasonable stan behavior to want to give P (who has no track record with committing domestic violence) the benefit of the doubt over a woman who can't keep her stories straight.

Who else? Wendy literally says in the video she didn't write it, but she helped. Multiple people said it was a country song until she stretched out those chords. Prince wrote and recorded a lot of songs in a total bubble, but this isn't one of them. . Does she deserve writing credit, though? With money? Eh, maybe not, and the fact that she never sued (like some former associates did), tells me she doesn't think so. Or that, even with the radio play, song downloads, and TV syncs, that it wouldn't be worth it to pursue. . All I've ever heard them say was that he wasn't always consistent in where he gave a writing credit for contributions and arrangements. They feel they contributed more to Purple Rain in a recognizable, unique way than Computer Blue, but Computer Blue is where they got the writing credit. . Though, from the looks of it, Prince still held onto 50% of the writing share for Computer Blue, and the other co-writers had an even split of the remaining 50%. That's 12.5% each of 9.1 cents per copy sold/printed.

I love hearing from various people about the recording of Power Fantastic. . Lisa Coleman and Wendy talked about Darling Nikki, and Princes furious drumming style and that was all Prince. And I understand why it would too, because it is a very 'naked' song, like Tambourine and a few others.

[Edited 7/18/17 17:28pm] I'm glad you're sorry but as usual you are incorrect. You can find a thread pretty much about anything on here, it's been around forever. The most common thread has always been the ones started by new fans like you getting over defensive on Prince's behalf that someone said something mean. I roll my eyes at the fam threads and sometimes make fun of them but I accept them as part of the org, maybe you should consider doing the same with the harsher topics. Besides, it's easy to paint old posts as too mean with Prince dead, it's a different world now. I don't really know why I'm bothering here, we both know you won't listen. I say live and let live with threads, you say no other opinions but yours and you're being bullied when someone disagrees with you.

Don't bother unless you want to pull up actual older threads that are started in defense of Prince against those who criticized him on this site, I have to say that sounds like BS. I am sure there were threads of a negative vibe that orgers jumped on to defend Prince. But whole threads started in defense of him by new members being the most common threads, yeah, Don't buy it. Pick a random topic and write in the search box. You will find negative threads, neutral threads and a few positive threads. I have done it quite a few times.
I guess I am just going to have to get used to be called a newbie forever on this site becaue I don't see things the same way.
One thing i did realize is that "prince world" was huge so fanhood will vary. Its the only place in town to talk about Wendy, Lisa, Shelia E, Sheena Easton, Jesse Johnson, Morris Day and the Time, etc. Not everyone has to think too kindly of Prince to want to be a part of this world.
