Prince fired The Revolution because of his vanity? Prince had to send his band and crew members to bring Wendy and Lisa back from aeroport. Don't you think Prince was hurted by their departure and he was planning to fire them at that moment but waited the end of the tour?

This is not a hard to find story, by any means. It's in every book and on every site, including this one. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

You can find where Bobby states this on a interview they did for Backspin on youtube...he states"I had go get Lisa and Wendy from the airport so we can continue the tour, they had enough"(something to that effect)...Mark also states he left as well and he had enough as well...as soon as I can copy the link I will edit this post

Sorry Alan Leeds said W&L were constantly complaining and saying they were going to leave. He knew when the tour was over they would be given their walking papers. You do not get to bitch at your boss and keep your job.

Loyalty. Go get somebody from the airport in the middle of a tour... man come on... somebody who is basicaly unemployable outside of this gig... I mean.. hell yeah they got fired. He couldn't trust 'em. It seems to be a running gag with the protoges and backing bands to get big-headed, slack-off on Prince, then sling mud when the inevitable occurs...

What were they complaining bout? The backup dancers, expanded Revolution? "Climb in my fur."

this is one of those ole tired topics I think but at the same time it has relevance throught Prince's life.

Good Lord. Did Prince tell you this in a phone call that it was all tied to his family problems.
According to Alan Leeds they were constantly complaining on the short Parade Hit and Run shows. He said he knew they were going to get there walking papers. Don't mouth off to your boss.
We also saw him bring in new people and move in a new direction.

Expanded revolution and the back up dances. Did not like being an RnB show.

Prince spoke on it in a 1990 Interview magazine interview That is why in 1997 he released a song called In This Bed I Scream . Alan Leeds didn't say that.

You mean this 1990 interview? http://www.rollingstone.c...s-19901018
The breakup of the Revolution apparently didn't go down easy. Today, Prince's relationship with his onetime best friends Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman is somewhere between uncomfortable and estranged. "I talk to Wendy and Lisa, but it's like this," Prince says, moving his hands in opposite directions. "I still hear a lot of hurt from them, and that bothers me. When I knew them, they were two spunky, wonderful human beings. I honestly don't know what they're hurt about." So far, Prince says, the two women haven't listened to the few tidbits of advice he has offered. For their first video, Prince recommended that they try to announce themselves by making a splash, by "doing something like jumping off a speaker with smoke pouring out everywhere. Something." When he saw the video, however, Wendy was sitting in a chair, playing her guitar. "You can't do that when you're just getting established — kids watching MTV see that and they go click," Prince says, miming a channel being changed. "They'd rather watch a commercial." Still, Prince's pronouncements seem proffered more in mourning than in malice. "Wendy and Lisa are going to have to do some more serious soul-searching and decide what they want to write about," he says sadly and shakes his head. "I don't know what Wendy and Lisa are so hurt about. I wish I did, but I don't."

Prince said a lot of detached things in that interview... and in small slivers here and there revealed himself.
"I'm playing the bad guy," says Prince, "but I didn't fire Jimmy and Terry. Morris asked me what I would do in his situation. You got to remember, it was his band." . There is still some residue of emotional pain. "What if everybody around me split?" he asks. "Then I'd be left with only me, and I'd have to fend for me. That's why I have to protect me."

Sounds like typical band drama to me and why wouldn't Prince protect himself as a solo artist first? To connect their firing back to his father is a kinda loopey.

Another book based on limited third party interviews and another author trying his darnest to piece together and make a connection into Prince's personality. And that panel with him, Quest Love and Alan Leeds at a book discussion did not help.
Let's talk about Wendy's personality? Can I dissect her and discuss how she may have contributed to getting the boot from Prince. Or are we to assume that Wendy and Lisa are complete perfect Angels.

As I understand it,Wendy and Lisa quit the band right in the middle of the Parade Tour. This angered Prince and he was forced to beg them to come back. They came back, but he was still pissed at them and fired them after the tour was over.I think I read all this in the DMSR book.
In addition,BrownMark was unhappy around this time, too. He was considering a gig in Stevie Nicks' band, where he would have been paid three times what he was making in the Revolution.Late 1986 seems like it was a tough time for everyone.Under The Cherry Moon had flopped,Parade wasn't a massive seller, and it was obvious that some major changes were needed.I have to say,I wasn't totally surprised when I heard that Prince was disbanding the Revolution.

Quitting in the middle of a tour would anger any band leader and BrownMark has not done much since leaving the Revolution.

Man, Wendy came in talkin shit. Im sure at first it was a nice breth of fresh air but became insufferable. I remember that Rolling Stone story and she seemd overbearing in her place with the band and Prince, after such a short time. Brown Mark had some things to say about that in Pop Life-Dave Hill, or was it DMSR-Per Nilsen? "Climb in my fur."

OldFriends4Sale said: Any worthwhile information in this book? I stared reading it a while back and had to put it down because I got bored with it. Too much about generation X and trying to psychoanalyze Prince. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance? I plan to try to read it again but have to drum up the interest again.

Oh I agree.Prince had every right to be upset.

True. Not everybody can be a "star",but he's a good bassist. If Stevie Nicks wanted to pay him three times what he was making in the Revolution, that says alot about his talent, doesn't it?
