They aren't required to give anybody credit are they? As much as Jill has been complaining lately, I don't think there is much if anything she can do about this.

I don't get it. It's never bothered her in the past has it? If P was still here and releasing old material would she get credit? And if not would she fight him on the matter? All seems a bit opportunistic to me. I'm sure they knew the deal back then.

Do you think she will sue the estate etc?

Let's hope it doesn't come to that; however, I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility. In a perfect world, the estate will meticulously credit and compensate any and all artists who participated in previously unreleased Prince music that will be newly released from The Vault. I'm not sure if it's any indication of intent, but if I'm not mistaken, I believe Jill did sign and share the petition.

Interestingly enough, this is Jill's new cover photo on her Facebook. Make of it what you will.

I doubt she owns any forms of copyrights, I mean she cant even get her solo CD released for real from 1987 because she does not own it. I mean if PRINCE didnt own his masters do we think JILL owned her copyrights to anything?? A lot of PRINCE's artists are not even credited, he himself recorded and wrote under different names, what's next, Morris Day sues Jamie Starr? There is so much uncredited stuff and things PRINCE did in the shadows back then and throughout his career, do you really think a label is going to actually dive into the insanity that PRINCE was doing? they could not even keep up with his albums now you want them to catalog the frigging vault.

--It is really not that hard to find out if she had the copyrights on something and yes it would be WB responsibility to research this stuff so lawsuits do not start flying. In fact Dave Hampton said when he was approached about the vault it was obvious that the powers that be did not understand the research and time it is going to take to work on the vault. People will sue if they are copyright holders. Even if Jill is not a copyright holder would it have been too much to ask for her input? What are they going to do when they get to 1999?

But would a label even know who she was? That is a bigger question, since JILL was not a big artist and even in the PRINCE world how often is her name on anything that he has done? I hardly ever hear her name come up in PRINCE conversations unless it is with the very loyal and even then its not often. The same can be said of Elisa Fiorillo who probably was on more than anyone that we know, but I am sure most of what she is on was never credited. Prince worked that way a lot early on it seems.

Prince did not release anything that she was on and if he had she would be entilted to receive credit or payment if she was a copyright holder. I am not sure if it has every occured to anyone that one of the reasons he may not have put out older material was the fact that he would have to actually split the profits with copyright holders or listen to people bitch about credit.

No releases no bitching or giving up money. You also have no way of knowing what was bothering her in the past.

That is 100% true. Prince often used things and never credited those involved and I never heard all this fuss but now "because there is a lot" of light on these releases and Prince in death, everyone has to get their credit.

What are they going to do when 1999 comes along she is all over that record?

Elisa is credit for her work on Grafffi Bridge.

Take Me With U

(duet with Apollonia)

Yes, in the lyrics it states duet with Apollonia but in the actual credits it states produced, arranged, composed and PERFORMED by Prince and the Revolution. Credits = $$$$$

Now, with the remaster(s) it would be interesting to go back and see if JJ and even Apples were even originally credited. If not, why come for the $$$ now???

I think this is the most real thing I've read on this thread. Partially. I don't necessarily believe it was that he didn't want to split the profits, especially in later years. I just think that whole copyright question meant spending lots of time with lawyers and accountants, which he seemed to loathe doing. Perhaps he saw it as a headache best left for someone to sort out after his passing. The same can be said for his decision to not release many live performances/films. I have thought this for awhile. In fact, there was one interview where the question of The Vault came up. I recall reading where he hinted at that very thing, copyrights, saying something about having to deal with estates of people he recorded with, or something of this nature. I don't know if he had Miles Davis in mind or what. I'm going to try to track down that interview.

She deserves credit in the liner notes, but to describe her contributions as 'instrumental' is massively over-stating it.

Clue me in, what songs on the Deluxe edition should credit her? I don't believe she's on the original soundtrack album (or is she?)

I think I read she's on "We Can F*ck." Are there other missing credits?

I don't know about race-baiting by Jill.

I don't know the process, and what was writte in those vaults.

Or if the estate checked with anyone about anything...That's a lot of people that he worked with...(There are link 2 major "NPGs"....And so on...That is a lot of people to keep track of).

I will say.....

I've applied to a job from a guy with a light fixture business. He called my for a phone interview, and then set a real one.

Based on my birth/given name...He probably did not know I was black--until the day of the real interview..

I was super-early---like 2 hours before.

I grabbed a snack at a store that was one block over from his business, and called him from my car afterwards to tell hhim that I was 10 minutes away (when really I just wanted a few more minutes to go over my notes, and look in my mirror).

I was already in this office-park parking-lot.

After that call...I saw "the boss" rushing out of his business, and throwing in suit case in his wife's car...

I actually laughed--because he was so racist... This was a hard labor job. Had I not been very early, I would not have seen him leave his business in the morning---than to hire me.

I had no cameraphone at the time...

I walk-in about 5 minutes until our appointment, and his desk clerk--is doing nothing but pure evil.. She's lyiing for him..."I know that you talked to him within the last 30 minutes, but he's gone for the day".

It was a pretty hard labor job--mixed-in with very-little techincal stuff that's I studied. Actually, I was over-qualified...

I did not expose this man...I "sucked-it-up" , and kept-on moving...There are more stories where wicked men like this will waste your time if your name is not "Urban" (or worse things that they may say about those names). If you say something about it, it's a "Card"...But isn't my complainging and labeling me for doing so, a "Card"?

Do not be shamed about callling these types out. In the 50-60s, anyone who took a stand was called, "a Commie" or "Communist". These days seem to be returning, and remixed with bogus, and pompous rhetoric and propaganda. Anybody study the Nazi's and their beginnings? Nobody wants to be the bad guy, and say, "I'm not going to be fair--because I'm looking-out for my own over your kind". I respect those who do, because they are not liars to an extreme. Where this man's business was, some of his clients were probably very wealthy black athletes and entertainers (but they just happy to be rich---they don't check for issues like these when they spend big $--with people who won't be fair to others over the lowest paying jobs).

Why not call a snake a serpent? You might save someone from being bit.

Honestly I really don't think WB did anything here I think they released what he wanted and how he wanted it out, he signed off on PR remaster and the demos and mixes and edits were all in WB possession from ages ago given by Prince it's fair to say, I think they put out what they had and credited it with how he credited it.

They pulled material from their vault not Prince's vault and I doubt he would have been okay with songs that had nothing to do with the movie being on the project.

Remember he said he saw albums like movies with all the songs going together.

Jill is one of very few who hasn't made the mad dash for cash off Prince's death. If she feels she is owed something..She will have to prove it.
Look at everyone writing books, touring off songs they played on with Prince..etc
She sang background on 1999. Idk what other songs but I do respect that Jill has given her honest opinions about our purple Yoda and the people cashing in on their association with him.

I've thought about this and I understand why credits are there, to credit someone for their work and contribution.
But if we're left out of that "on paper", the people who need to know will know. If anyone.
I am very impressed by people who have success or "are somebody" but never mention it anyway. I find out later through others and I admire them all the more.

She has the memories and had the experience. That's the most important thing of all.
Everything else will get taken care of.

She owns her own businees that allows musicians to record via Internet platforms. She also went back to school and obtained a degree in business and that has nothing to do with her being given credit or money if she owns the copyright on anything.
