According to your own comments. You do not know too much of anything.

I told you I read an interview with Miko were he felt that the anger Prince was directing at him did not have so much too do with the guitar being turned up too loud but more to do with Miko getting all the girls. This is what Miko believed.

See these two links below. First has an orger bring it up and the second is saying it is in the book Possessed. Read it and let this go.

U said that was the reason.
I told U what is turned out to be in the full picture

It wasn't just the guitar. That was the spark. Miko himself said

he wasn't feeling the new musicians and felt they were fake

I am telling you what Miko said. I am not saying anything because I was not in the room. I am only reporting what Miko stated was the real reason. This information is apparently in Possessed. I gave you the damm links from this site.

Do you think Prince was yelling at Miko because Miko did not like the musicians? Think about that for just a minute. What would set off Prince to ask Miko to go outside? Miko taking all the women or Miko not liking the musicians in the band? I am not saying he did not say he had a problem with the musicians it is in the interview but I am telling you his comments about women are out in the public as well.

Miko told the dam story of the guitar, he didn't even know there was footage of that out there.
The guitar was the spark that ended everything.
It wasn't about getting more women. The comment about women was just a joke

For whatever reason Miko felt like saying he felt Prince was mad at him about getting all the girls and that was the real reason he picked the fight with him. The fight was not over other band memebers but a factor in Miko utimitly deciding to leave the band although having your boss threaten to take you outside for any reason would be enough reason to leave.

Also remember one of his managers around in the 1990s said he had words with Prince and Prince did actually hit him so dude was not afraid to fight.

Why do you need to believe so hard it was something as frivolous as being 'about the ladies'
Maybe that is how you would be if you were in the situation.

.

1. The spark of the fight was during a rehearsal and the engineer had Miko's guitar too loud.

.

2. Prince went after Miko and spoke to Miko in a way that he did not like.

.

3. Miko ended up leaving because the group/band scene had changed and he felt the new members were fake. Prince even implying that Miko coming out of the 1984-1988 period having gone through the harder stuff should be able to take it. Miko disagreed. And clearly felt Prince was not the same and decided to leave the band.

.

4. So if Prince hit Miko then it had nothing to do with 'the Ladies'

I remember reading that "365 Prince Song In A Year" was launching. Although I agree with this article for siding with the inspiration of the song being about Vanity and the movie, it's good that they told both sides of the story. It wouldn't have been honorable if they hadn't. But most of all I appreciate that they were respectful enough to let the world know what Prince said about the subject. An article that finally knows how to tell a story. I'm interested In reading about the other songs on their list... popcorn

I like that they used Prince's own words

“I was talking to somebody about ‘The Beautiful Ones.’ They were speculating as to who I was singing about – but they were completely wrong,” Prince said. “If they look at it, it’s very obvious.Do you want him or do you want me,’ that was written for that scene in Purple Rain specifically, where Morris would be sitting with [Apollonia] and there’d be this back and forth. And also, ‘The beautiful ones you always seem to lose,’ Vanity had just quit the movie.”

I do not know why but hearing Prince say it is very obvious is sweet. The obvious gets rebuked so much it is nice to have his confirmation and it is nice to know Vanity knew the song was for her.

In his tribute to her in Melbourne he said "she knows about this one."

I am so amazed how Prince as a mature adult almost 50 is treated like the 20 something he was in the 80s. He grew and matured before our eyes. It is offensive to have him a time capsule. His words both instances were HIS. It is overlooked. I rather he give the narrative via his words and songs than others. Prince knew. It was a gift he shared in 2015 and 2016.

Thank you for posting this article Laura!

I still don't understand why there continues to be a debate about this song.

What is it that people don't get? Prince was clear, straight out of his mouth, what and who this song was about in 2015. No, let's believe everyone but the person who wrote the song. duh

This is why there was/is a debate to begin with.
The word out of the camp at the time was always directed at Susannah, hearing Prince say it was about Vanity is a very new thing.

Electric Intercourse was the song performed @ the August 1983 Dance Benefit show.
Even though Prince had indirectly met Susannah, earlier the in the year at a party with Vanity, she was in the audience @ First Avenue that night. By this point Prince and Vanity were already rocky.

Susannah and Prince 'officially' encountered each other that night. Prince also learning that Quincy Jones was trying to get him to join him, Prince started trying to get her to join him.

Prince wrote the Beautiful Ones after the August 1983 Dance Benefit show Sept 20th 1983 and sent the song to Susannah to listen to.

.

Now of course we know Vanity was looking for a better move, and I don't know the time frame, but there was something about the Last Temptation of Christ and then she made a move to Berry Gordy and Motown ... mo money mo money. This were a bit turbulent between her and Prince right up to the abrut departure. Some say it was just that she had enough, she want more money 4 Purple Rain and Prince wouldn't budge, she was caught with Al Magnoli etc etc

.

So for the longest, since the 80s the story out of the camp was Susannah connected, not Vanity.
.
Now I personally feel it is somewhere inbetween or dually both.
.
Prince during the Piano & Mic tour talked about Vanity (after she passed away). At this time he was upset at Susannah over something during a phone conversation the previous year. And part of me feels he talking about the song the Beautiful Ones in an interview prior was getting back at her.
.
After his mortality check, he calls Wendy and asks 4 Susannah's phone number to talk. This was all around the time he was reconnecting with so many people.

.

If we leave the story of the Time(1990) and what really happened, acording to Prince "Remember the Time was Morris's band, I'm just playing the bad guy'. According to that interview, the last one I knew of Prince talking about what happened, Morris Day fired Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, not Prince.

.

I just believe, the Beautiful Ones story is probably a mesh of 2 stories, both probably true.

As I said earlier there will always be camp Susannah and camp Vanity but The Beautiful Ones is as Prince said it was - he was not a 20 something or for that matter 30 something foolish man. In 2015 Prince was a mature, seasoned man of 50 something and for whatever reason he started getting really real. His lyrics too- (The Breakdown, Home) if you will accept that.

.

Prince knew as a mature, seasoned 50 something, what he was saying in that 2015 interview. He was tired of people saying things he did not mean and respectfully I got the feeling when he approached subject of the The Beautiful Ones. He said what , when, who and why it was about Vanity.

.

I am not discounting Susannah or what she shared with Prince but Prince spoke of who The Beautiful Ones was for twice within months and he was not messing around in Australia when he sang The Beautiful Ones. It was real and not a - get back, clap back, revenge.

.

The thing is even when Prince said what the song was- it is disputed. It is as if no one wants to validate this man outside of their own mental construct of what they thought of him. He was a grown azz man. He knew what went down in his own mind for a song. Much respect to the Melvoins, Alex Hahn, Lisa, Susan Rodgers and all the Susannah crew but this one song - can belong to Vanity and they can go on and do what they have done all these years and give Susannah whatever else they want and need to give.

.

It came as a suprise to many that Prince said much of what he said in that 2015 article quoted in this thread and the Piano and Mic concerts when things got real.

I realized that much of what I thought was real due to Alex Hahn, the Melvoins, Lisa and Susan Rodgers was their story, their construct but they did not know all of Prince. He was complex and clearly him sending a song to listen to did not mean- I wrote it for you. After 30 plus years I am sure it came as a zinger but it is as I believe Prince said it is- TBO is for Vanity . He was losing her to Motown i.e. Apples to Morris- same/same.

.

As I said before I am waiting for them to say PR part Apples played was really about Susannah. I am serious and please do not take offense .I respect the Melvoins and Susannah and Lisa and Susan Rodgers and their place in Prince's life but this one they need to let go. Let it be. Let it stand as Prince said months prior to his death and give enough respect as a man to know his own mind.

Thank you. Vanity meant a lot to Prince. How could she not? Its a shame that so many people take the things that Susannah camp says and said to be the ultimate truth. I think that anyone with eyes know that TBO is not about Susannah. What's really important is the statements Prince made. He was a very private person. So for him to open up and express himself should be taken seriously

The full truth is what he said in the book in Possessed. You do not have to like it but it is a story attributed to Miko in that book. This much is true. Funny how when something comes from Alex that orgers agree with it is all good but not so much when you do not like hearing it.

I do not know why but hearing Prince say it is very obvious is sweet. The obvious gets rebuked so much it is nice to have his confirmation and it is nice to know Vanity knew the song was for her.

In his tribute to her in Melbourne he said "she knows about this one."

.

Sweet.

When I heard Prince say that line. I thought the debate would be over. I was like "There's no way people can try to say this song wasn't about Vanity now!" Lol, I underestimated the years of narrative of "Possessed" lol lol

The full truth is what he said in the book in Possessed. You do not have to like it but it is a story attributed to Miko in that book. This much is true. Funny how when something comes from Alex that orgers agree with it is all good but not so much when you do not like hearing it.

No it isn't in the book, the full truth is in the interview I posted. That you seem to resist, because it is coming from me. U don't even have the book, I do.

I think you are lying. I checked this book out from the libary and remember reading this and it was discussed on this forum in the past. So I do not remember what I read and the old org post is made up as well? It seems that everyone lives in a fantasy world and goes around making up stuff except you.
