The following article entitled "Soul Asylum drummer on former boss: ‘Prince never accepted anything less than your best’" was published today by Twin Cities Pioneer Press:

"In the time since Prince’s death, drummer Michael Bland has developed a new relationship with his music. “I get a different sense of appreciation for it,” said Bland, a Minneapolis native who was a member of NPG for seven years. “At the same time, this profound sense of loss is inescapable. Whether or not I am playing his music, I hear it constantly. Doing this is somewhat cathartic, but whatever closure is supposed to come, well, I’m not really there yet. There’s just an empty hole, I don’t know how to explain it.”

I understand what he's saying...

I loved the "fear is not real...fear is not tangible". And when asked to play and Bland felt he had to think about it first, Prince told him "Put your hands on your instrument...you'll find the city...and then you'll find the street"...like "you got this, man, don't worry about it" biggrin

As a musician that's been in intimidating audition situations, that's really a great way to put it. He was a teacher & mentor when he wanted to be.

Michael Bland, is one of a few people that I love to hear from. Eric Leeds, Aland Leeds, Susan Rogers and Michael Bland. He is so articulate.

I wish he would one day write a book but I figure he is not that kind of guy.
