My wife and I saw The Revolution in San Antonio last night. Great set, hyped crowd, awesome show. We were in standing room only at the foot of the stage the entire show. Wendy sat right in front of us for some awesome guitar work during Controversy / Mutiny. We paid for an after-concert meet and greet and spent 20-30 minutes with the band backstage. They couldn't have been more approachable and appreciative. I can't believe I got to give Wendy a hug and tell her "Thank you for Mountains." We took photos with the band and got all of their autographs. Bobby Z's wife is with them as well. Beautiful and kind woman! Will post photos asap. Go see these guys if you have a chance. It is a very cool venue - and not even the best small-ish (2000 or so) theater in San Antonio, It was a great show and honestly, it was loud as hell in there. The crowd went nuts for 2 hours straight.

Heyyyy!!!! It's nice to have been in the same room for a couple of hours. I was in the front row as well...got a lot of great shots of Wendy... I also did the meet and greet. I saw myself in three picturs from that san antonio link in there... I went to see them all the way from El Paso Texas...I figured that if they weren't coming to town, I was going to them! So glad I did. I bought the tour book from the 80s that I got from ebay a few years ago. Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

Wendy was appropriately impressed that you came all the way from El Paso. But, if you're not from Texas, I don't think you fully understand how long of a trip that is. What is your favorite song from that album to play?
What songs elicit a pretty strong reaction from the crowd every time you play it?
And they all hit someone in a different way. Everyone reacts to songs differently, depending on the experience they have with it.
What does it feel like to go back on tour together?
What was the energy level like at Paisley Park for the recent Prince Anniversary concert? At the same time, it’s very emotional, so it affects our energy. Some songs will drop to this low point, so what we have done was arrange the set list. We know our emotional points, so we arranged the set list so when people get down, we immediately pick them back up. “Hey, Prince is gone, but guess what? He’d want us to celebrate this.” That’s what Prince was. He was an entertainer and he loved to entertain. He wasn’t into the moping and feeling sorry for, he was the kind of guy that would say, if he could speak to us right now, ‘get out of the corner, stop whining, stop crying about what happened. Get out there and help these people heal.’ That’s what he would tell us to do. He would say, ‘play, show them. Give them back that energy. Let them experience that.’ That’s what he would tell us to do.
Has the healing process started to get a little bit easier, though?
Us, to have the ability to relive who and what he was, what he represented, it helps a lot of people. I started throwing certain cities “after parties,” and the reason I did that is because that’s what Prince used to do. The effect has been awesome. People have been so grateful that I’m doing that, and so we’re starting to learn more about the healing process and how we can help people in bigger ways. That’s our goal, strictly our goal for being out here. Plus, it helps us as a family the more we heal. The more we play the music.
How are you going to remember Prince as a worker and as a person?

What an incredible week! We've had an incredible run of shows, awesome publicity and yesterday saw the re-release of Purple Rain. We'd also like to give a shout out to our friend Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, who has been jumping out on stage to sing some songs with us this tour. His new album came out yesterday. Check it out! — with BrownMark, Wendy & Lisa, Bobby 'Z' Rivkin, Matt Fink and Stokley.

On Prince’s involvement with this repackaging, which was reportedly in the works before his death in April 2016 “It was hard for him to ever look backwards,” Coleman said. “I can’t imagine him being involved in it. But who knows? He was such a control freak.” Nevertheless, she felt “he’d be proud of it. They [Warner Bros.] made smart choices as far as what bonus tracks to include.”

I went to the Austin concert at the ACL. Great crowd there, too, and the Revolution responded to the energy and appreciation with an enthusiastic performance. What a cathartic experience! And I wouldn't want to see any other vocalist but Stokley added to the mix. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Concert Review: The Revolution Celebrates Prince’s Legacy at ACL Live
Concert Review: The Revolution Celebrates Prince’s Legacy at ACL Live: reunited group pay tribute to their founder at Austin performance. ★★★★★
“Shall we begin? Yes Lisa.” Those infamous spoken word lyrics to Prince and The Revolution’s Computer Blue kicked off The Revolution’s set this weekend at Austin’s ACL Live. . Prince’s legendary backing band have reunited and taken to the road in tribute to their late founder, and it was a moving and celebratory dance party for all that attended. . The band, featuring original members Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Bobby Z, Brown Mark and Matt Fink wowed the crowd with a deep dish of His Purple Majesty’s classic hits and deep cuts. In many ways the show seemed like a daring experiment: how does one put on a Prince show without Prince? The answer could have been opportunistic or deeply misguided, but in the hands of such dynamic musicians we never should have worried–his spirit was felt and honored throughout the entire scorching set. The handling of vocal duties shifted throughout the night–Melvoin and Mark often traded vocals on tracks like Mountains, Raspberry Beret and America, in-between shredding on guitar and bass (respectively), while guest vocalist Stokely Williams (Mint Condition) lent his smooth falsetto on high-energy hits including Let’s Go Crazy, When Doves Cry and I Would Die 4 U. Melvoin weaved storytelling throughout the show, telling the audience they could visit Prince’s Paisley Park studio complex through his music if they couldn’t make the trek–before launching into the candy-colored psychedelic number of the same name. . She also encouraged the audience to help her sing a beautiful and soulful rendition ofSometimes It Snows In April. It was an emotional moment, and for good reason. Not only does that song m...e on death, but it references the very month he passed away. . Many in the crowd were openly moved–and it was the lone moment when they stopped dancing, lending the solemnity required to a track that ended with Melvoin crooning: all good things, they say, never last/And love, it isn’t love until it’s past. . Everyone in the group had their moment to shine–Melvoin’s incendiary guitar chops were on full display, while Coleman and Fink (wearing his patented surgeon scrubs) weaved funky sonic textures with their syncopated synths. And Mark was a man in constant motion, slapping his bass with as much effort as his fancy footwork. And throughout it all Bobby Z’s provided the group’s kinetic, pulsing heartbeat. . Elsewhere the group referenced the turbulent times of the day (with synapse-frying precision on America, 1999 andControversy). The set was appropriately Purple Rain centric, including the slinky Let’s Go Crazy B-side Erotic City and a chill-inducing take on the soundtrack’s title track, which had the crowd doing their best to match Prince’s euphoric falsetto crescendo. . The band covered pretty much every vintage Prince hit they were associated with, with the curious exception of Little Red Corvette, and controversial gem Darling Nikki, but that’s nitpicking. The crowd was enraptured and smiling throughout–it was one of the most genial audiences I’ve ever been a part of. . The Revolution’s performance served as a joyous party, poetic tribute and moving musical eulogy to the man who was their creative nucleus. While his presence is irreplaceable, they did more than do him justice, while shining a light on how their inventive musicianship helped fuel his genius and bring their collaborative vision to life. . Is there ever a discussion about what the future holds for them? I.E. are they going to record new material on their own, continue touring year after year, playing music from Prince's catalogue?
