Apollonia talks about the "Lake Minnetonka" scene from Purple Rain I think this is from 1984 episode of the VH1 series"I love the 80s" I'm at work so I don't know what she's saying.  Can somebody please post ?

she was saying that about an hour after the scene was shot, it snowed, that's how cold it was. they did three takes of that scene, the first one is the one that was kept. she said that when she jumped into the lake, she broke through some ice... and an ambulance was called for she was slipping into hypothermia. she said that prince came into the tent where she was being treated, and held her--warming her up. he said some things in her ear to make her feel better... but she said she can't tell you what those things are due to a confidentiality agreement. after saying that she quickly backtracks like it was a joke (about the confidentiality thing), and says he said some really sweet things to her.

I heard she caught a nasty cold after filming that scene and Prince sent her flowers while she was recuperating. 
Hey, are there any other old timers like me out there that remember when MTV reporting about the "upcoming" movie that Prince was making and how he was searching for a female lead to play opposite him? I remember watching MTV news one day and them talking about how there was going to be an open casting call in Minneapolis for the female lead part and listing the age range and physical traits that was required, and also how they were needing people to be extras in the crowd scenes. So, anybody out there actually audition for the female lead? C'mon, tell if ya did.. | |

I read in People Magazine that Prince was a total dick throughout this movie. He would only let her eat candy and made her jump into the lake so many times that she got hypothermia because of it. Then when he thought he was losing her he told her that he loved her and she didn't have to do the scene again. She was very upset about the whole thing.

He had a reason to be made it was his movie but he had no control over the project. The record company would not come up with the money but he could not change the script? He didn't have the power to pick the cast.But his name was just put out there. sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time. | |
