Who do you think the love of Prince's life was? Were he and Mayte truly soul mates, and did the death of their son and her miscarriage tear them apart? Was it to much for their marriage to endure?
Was it Vanity who got away, because he didnt want to pay her what she wanted to star in Purple Rain?
Was it Manuela?
I'm just currious to hear what you all think.

He always put music first. There was no love of his life, yes there were people he loved but he was willing to and did, sacrifice it all for his music. Baby, you're a star.

It surely was not a woman.
The love of Prince's life was music. He lived for that and it shows in all he did. I love that about Prince.

At the end, it was God and his music! However, he and Vanity can connect in spirit now that they have both been freed from the restrictions of their earthly bodies. That is what she asked God for; however, we will never know whether God has granted her what she asked for. May their souls rest in eternal peace! “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” – Albert Einstein

Music. The one and true love he never left and who never left him. This is my normal life. These marital standards cannot be recreated with money.

God and music by far.
He loved everyone. But as for romance, after a certain age he had a fear of growing old, so the women he was with because of that fear...well...it couldn't work out. A real love of his life? Like a fulfilling partnership on equal ground? I think Vanity and Mayte came closest. [Edited 4/30/17 18:19pm]

Exactly, music never betrayed or defamed him or his memory for monetary gain.
Music was forever the best and consistent most loyal lover of them all.

Still on the wait list to ger her book from my local library; but from what people have noted on the book thread, it doesn't seem like Mayte was on equal ground with him. Have you had the opportunity to read the book? If so, is your take that their relationship was one where they were on equal ground?

I know he loved her and all, but I think she was selfish (always in his head; only permitting him little respites and/or outside relationships); she was all consuming; wouldn't allow him to rest and take time off. Like he felt that he couldn't afford to be away from her for one moment; that he would die without her. I know she was given to him by God, brought him joy, peace and comfort, but I think she took a lot also...maybe took more than she gave.
