2nd guitarist on Revolution tour?

I was lucky enough to see the Revolution perform in Silver Spring last night (kickass show, as expected) but I have a question I was hoping somebody here could answer: who else was playing guitar besides Wendy? There were definitely points throughout the night where it sounded like somebody else was playing some secondary lead guitar over Wendy's rhythm parts, so I'm assuming they had somebody else backstage helping out? If so, it's kinda weird that they didn't just bring them out onstage with the band, but not really a big deal.

The tour has already had dates featuring a second player on stage. If this guitar was being played live by the same musician, I'm not sure why they'd be in the wings this time. Could be doubling. Could be samples.

In this instance I can only speculate that it's probably somebody live offstage. There's a video on youtube showing their performance of Erotic City on this tour date. While Wendy is playing the

rhythm, there definitely seems to be somebody playing the "All The Critics Love You" type riff over the top of it.

I think mbdtyler is actually referencing a specific show that happened last night (4/27) in MD/DC area that they went to.

Here's a video from that show https://www.youtube.com/w...uOPZL9inBU

You'll notice only Fink, Bobby, Brownmark, Lisa, and Wendy are on stage.

The touring player wasn't on the stage, but mbdtyler believes they heard other guitar parts.

Listen to Erotic City in the video. You'll hear Wendy playing the rhythm parts while there is another instrument playing the "All The Critics Love You" type riff over it at 2:51. That they would used sampled, backing tracks, or a sequencer wouldn't be unheard of, I would guess this is probably somebody playing this in the wings.

Is it possible Dr Fink is doing that piece with his synth?

That's what also crossed my mind which is why I said instrument and not guitar. BUT the only other video of that show is Purple Rain, and something is wrong with it.

I was wondering if maybe Lisa or Fink were playing those parts, but I feel like it had to be an actual guitarist out of sight. Even with as far as technology has come, there are guitar parts that you just can't replicate on a keyboard. Also, here's a video of "1999" https://www.youtube.com/w...HPrDxct6Fw

it seems like they did have th guitartist out of sight. I don't know why. It's a weird choice. Maybe they were ill? They definitely were on stage for the other shows.

Or maybe the musician was out for the night or a tech was filling in backstage. I noticed it too when I watched the video for Erotic City.

Also, how come Mark Brown doesn't know the lyrics to Erotic City?

Lots of the song call for two guitar player. The second guitar player has been on stage for the other shows. No big deal.

I didn't notice if he messed up the verses at all, but he DID get the choruses right at this show, unlike in a recent video I saw razz

I would guess he's aware of them, but he's opting to keep it clean. During his podcast interview with Mazarati it seemed like he was steering the conversation away from explicit adult content and trying to keep it "family friendly." You'd think he could possibly doing it as "funk so pretty" as it claimed to be written as, but it may be he's trying to avoid the issue entirely for himself but not using fuck in either chorus parts with his vocal.

We're aware that there has been another guitar player. We're wondering why at this show they were not on stage and if there was another guitar player if they were playing offstage.

Sure. But I thought perhaps the OP was suggesting that the Revolution was trying to hide that they needed a second guitar player, and as critical as I am of the Rev I don't think that is the case. Rob Bacon does a great a job by the way.

I wasn't suggesting that they were trying to pass all of the guitar playing off as Wendy's, I'm just curious as to why they'd bring a 2nd guitarist onstage for previous shows but keep them offstage for this particular show. Maybe they decided the energy is better with just the original members onstage, aside from Stokley (or whoever else happens to be doing guest vocals)? Guess we'll see how they do things for the rest of the tour.

Which is interesting considering he played with them at the most recent First Ave shows. But agreed, I don't see that really happening either.

Yes it could be, the guy from PR the mc was a 'real' member in the Prince camp, I forget what his function was. Bennett is still with them doing the lighting too.

It would be cool if they used the French guys intro from the America video
