I honestly don't see the need for the hate and dismissive attitude toward Morris or the song, especially today, in another thread. Thankfully this one is just talking about it all in a positive way.

The song isn't going to be a top 10 hit. But the feeling and emotion behind it are what count here. There are musical references to "The Beautiful Ones" and other Prince-esque notions. He verbally references "When Doves Cry", as well. The man knew Prince like few others, so to hear him finally express himself in music - being a musician - is nice.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Ummm, because it's horrible? My goodness, the cheese is overflowing. I mean, I feel bad that the man lost a dear friend, but this is just so many shades of bad I don't even know where to begin.

word!...and i like the song and video...i was very pleasantly surprised to see Morris with such a serious, sullen, emotional demeanor....the video and effects (even if "cheesey" or lo-budget) were well executed and appropriate...P was Morris' big homie, and the emotion came off VERY real...not sure what someone would find wrong or bad about it...

Major hate for the original people in the Prince camp.

It's a heartfelt tribute by Morris.

Even so, the song in my opinion sounds terrible.

Morris can still be electric (see Original Seven) but he probably needs some people around him to bounce ideas and figure out what sounds dope and what doesn't.

He needed those other ideas on this song.

Damn, it sounds bad.

Interesting that Snoop Dogg posted this on his channel.

i think he felt he had to, to relieve the grief he must be feeling.
to lose prince not only as a hero and muse but also as a friend... must have hit him hard

i liked the song
it also reminds me of morris's solo work

he's cool

Why?

Are dissenting views not valid?

If Eric Leeds takes a shit and records it, will it be the best most poignant thing that's ever been recorded?

As I said in another post. Prince's death hit Morris the hardest it seems just from his posts and sharing of pictures and some stories that he has shared. I really think it is unfair to rip on someones paying respect to someone they cared about. Be it Shelia E's song or Jill's or whomever down the line this is what they feel for him. These are people that spent many hours with him at different points coming up and very successful and I am sure a lot of happy times, we did NOT, we bought records went to shows watched videos etc... but they lived in his world for many days and times.

Awwww. Thanks for posting, I had no idea about this. I think it's very touching that Morris put this together. I think most people really believed that Morris and Prince couldn't stand each other. Perhaps at different periods of time, they didn't get along, but in the end, THIS shows that deep down there was some mutual respect and love there. Morris actually sung this song quite well. I'm glad that he wanted to share this with the rest of the world. hug

I respect the song that Morris's feelngs. That was his "brother" good times and bad they had a bond that dates decades that was never broken, damaged at times, but never discarded.

I think there were things he wanted to say to him that he never got a chance to say, wrongs to right, laughter and sadness. I think losing him was exactly as he said, losing a piece of hmself.

He was quite torn up when it happened and still seems to be battling it all. He stays out of the fray thhough and for that I respect him more.

Not liking the song too much.

I don't know what I feel about Morris sometimes. At times, he feels the need to keep it real in a way that can be taken out of context. In one of his interview clips, he said that Prince was a difficult guy and you never know whether you will get the comedian or "Ayatollah Ali Khamenei". I know what he is saying...Prince was a moody SOB (Gemini) but really in the same interview he is calling him his brother and premiering his song and then calling him a mideastern dictator--that is a little much. Doesn't he remember how sound bites and cherry picking works?

At times, he gives Prince a great deal of credit; other times, he knocks him. Complicated relationship--those two have..Its making me think that morris could be a bit moody himself.

Beautiful, Morris! I've seen his posts on FB and he's been in a lot of emotional pain over the loss of his brother, Prince, and I hope that this song will help bring him and the fans some healing and closure. That ending with the rainbow. cry prince heart
