John Blackwell Jr., born on September 9, 1973, in Columbia, South Carolina, is a second generation American drummer, best known for his work with Prince. Throughout his career, Blackwell has worked with the likes of Cameo, P Diddy, Patti LaBelle, Utada Hikaru, Crystal Kay, Justin Timberlake, and Charlie Singleton. In 2010, The John Blackwell Project came together to release a stellar album with a truly unique and varied collection of innovative fusion tunes, the basic tracks for 4Ever Jia. In 2016, John spent two months in Japan and Florida being tested for what doctors think may be tumors in his brain. Per his wife Yaritza's tweet yesterday, Mr. Blackwell remains in critical condition. Friends and fans around the world continue to lift them up in prayer. There has not been any official confirmation of whether his brain tumors were benign or malignant, but the word "cancer" is starting to come up in tweets. Still, no specifics have been announced by the family. Here's hoping for a miracle.
