He has had multiple brain surgeries for brain tumors. He first fell ill in Japan, in June or July, where he became paralyzed on one side of his body. You can read about his condition from the beginning at his GoFundMe page, where there are a total of nine (9) updates. Speaking of which, donations are still badly needed.

I plan to do likewise. I hope others will follow suit, as well. His medical bills are surely mounting.

Saw this in my email. He is having so many troubling ups and downs. I pray for his healing.

I'm happy to see his GoFundMe account rising. Please give if you can and, also, please share this information widely. I'm surprised this thread is not yet a sticky.

Besides which, his wife set up the GoFundMe account. That's as close to giving directly as possible for most of us.

Please don't discourage. This is the easiest route for most people. I donated after the first thread and I don't think they take a big chunk, but they are entitled to something because they are performing a service by streamlining the process.

This way his wife can be there with John instead of running going back and forth trying to manage direct donations.

This is so sad. Praying for him to make a full recovery.

Thanks, purplerabbithole! That's what I thought. I just saw that she tweeted this photo last month with an appeal to her followers to donate to JB's medical fund. Everyone is praying for a miracle for the big guy.
