Nikka & Strings.... and Prince Excited to hear that Nikka Costa's new album 'Nikka & Strings, Underneath and In Between' is coming out now in June 2017... I just saw the video for her cover of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' which is great but I'm particularly interested in hearing her version of Prince co-write 'Silver Tongue' which is also included. The Prince demo version was one of his most underrated latter day works I think.

If anyone's interested I just heard a promo of this album and Nikka's take on 'Silver Tongue' is amazing - a much fuller, warmer and jazzier take than Prince's. I wouldn't say it was necessary better - P's has a sparse fragility to it which is totally compelling (and very much in the mode of the One Nite Alone album) but Nikka takes it to another place.
Does anyone know if they did any of collabs besides this and their live take on Push n Pull?

“THAT’S IT, THAT’S How I’ve been feeling!!!” An Absolutely Amazing rendition… She and those Strings killed me… I’ve been playing it (loudly) in the car, on my phone and on my computer for the past few days. . Hearing a familiar yearning and lamentation of loss in want… somehow healing to the fractured or broken heart. Difficult to resist her tugging hard on those heartstrings, having stretched across a divide take hold in effort to tie a bow around the two ragged parts. . “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” But this isn’t that… this is reverence reflected in resonant inflections revealing depth of feeling and meaning in honoring the memory. For me it adds explicit significance to the song’s once figurative (one size fits all) universal meaning, which had been originally written and designed for any and all of the lovelorn grieving. Now, 2 include in its meaning, 2 be 2 literal and 2 specific 2 One… as a memorial to its author, ironically.
. As nothing can compare and can’t compete, first hesitantly listening critically to the efforts of another artist rendition of the obsessive compulsive artist’s work… unexpectedly finding her succeeding in creating one, though familiar, very unique. . Bravo Nikka Acosta

Can't wait for this to come out. I've missed her music. When I first heard she was going to do NC2U I was spectical because everyone covers it, but she does it in a way that makes me feel like I'm not just listening to another banal cover. It sounds great. Im curious to see what her version of silver tongue will sound like. Ive never been able to really get into Prince's version. Change it one more time..
