Why would she lie about the ashes though? Those are the remains of her son. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

She might not be Lying...SHe may THINK that the so called "Compassionate Friend"that told her that is telling the TRUTH...

I agree, Lovejunky. It's hard to make a judgement about the veracity of the friend's statement without knowing who the friend is. . I think that Mayte is telling the truth about what the friend told her, but like you said, what the friend said is heresay. It makes no sense for Mayte to make up the story about the ashes, because if she did, she would alienate a lot of Prince's fans who support her (myself included). . I would love to know from Mayte what Prince said to her when she asked him about the ashes, if he said anything at all. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

She is changing her story every time. How can you go from not being sure, to being sure now? It makes no sense. A lot things she claims in the book makes no sense. That is reason enough not to believe her. She has real no real explanation has to why she did not have the remains in the first place and won't release the name of the person who told her this information but had no issue talking about other personal information. We don't really know if she ask for the remains in the divorce. It seems to me she talking about something that she was not worried about until some shady person got her ear. Now all of a sudden she talked to Prince about. The story keeps expanding. She is taking advantage of the situation of Prince not being here and is being sloppy with statements she makes and thinks no one notice the changing statememets. The media and some of the fans are not holding her reponsible her statements. She does not know what happen to the remains and is making up crap because she knows Prince is not here.

I don't get this, at all. She doesn't give an explanation of why she didn't have the ashes because its obvious, she was bereaved, depressed, and her marriage was breaking down in actually a very confusing and unclear way, and then she probably just wanted to run away from the whole thing for a while and put herself back together, so she left them in PP, probably assuming they would be safe there...and then at some point later, she found out that they weren't. It's totally possible to make an assumption about something when you're feeling fucked up, and then a bit later, when you're not feeling so fucked up, realize you made a misguided assumption, or that something you assumed was fine may not be...it's also possible to forget/repress something, and then remember it later. Seriously, people who go through fucked up things don't behave consistently, or have perfectly linear thoughts and responses to things, and that is normal. What would not be normal is behaving like the perfectly rational and consistent automaton that people who seem to have no empathy with how traumatic shit screws you up seem to think people should behave. You know what this really reminds me of, people who disbelieve women who have been sexually assuaulted because they say inconsistent things, or don't behave completely rationally when they're tramatized, or don't realize immediately how messed up shit is and immediately rectify it, or who remember things later, and who then get called liars, and all manner of other crap - very often by other women who don't actually know what they're talking about because they haven't experienced it. Really, it's beginning to make me angry. Not like I love my guitar....

All she claims in the book is that someone told her that that is what happened, and that, quite understandably, that made her angry. Why should she reveal her source, if she thinks that would cause shit for that person? She tells the story from her perspective, and she never claims otherwise. As LBrent suggests, it still leaves open the question of whether he did actually do it, or whether she was misled. All Mayte tells us is that is what she was told and she believed it. And it is very very obvious why she didn't make a stink about it while he was alive, just as its obvious why she didn't name their child in public while he was alive...she still loved him, he still had considerable power over her, and she still wanted his approval ...so she didn't want to do anything to hurt him or make him angry with her. Y'know we're dealing with Prince here right? The guy who sued a woman for a video of a dancing baby? I wouldn't want to piss him off. And if we were estanged and only ocassionally spoke to each other, I think I'd seriously think twice (three, four, a hundred times) before barrellling in and asking him if he burnt our child's remains. Not like I love my guitar....

WOW! Tru Dat!...the lack of compassion for a traumatized woman by other women on this thread is truly amazing and disturbing.

Let us not forget that Prince dispatched Mayte to Spain to buy a house for them on the pretense that they were going to live in that house together. That is why he still had her belongings and urn that was all burned.

Quite. Like she thought, 'y'know, I better take all my stuff and these ashes to our new getaway put ourselves back together home in case the whole thing goes to shit and he becomes a religious zealot and in a few years time he decides to burn all my stuff and our child's ashes in the backyard of that dude from Sly and the Family Stone.' Apparently, that would have been way more rational. Not like I love my guitar....

Somewhere someone mentioned that they found it inconsistant that Mayte apparently said in an interveiw that "they never discussed having babies" yet in the book Mayte writes about P writing her a letter about having babies.
I have the audiobook so I didn't go back to listen to find out where that part was, but...
Writing me a letter isn't "discussing". You could write me a letter about whatever and that's fine, I'll assume that you just wanted to get that off your chest UNLESS you follow the letter up with a face-to-face conversation, especially if you're a romantic often mercurial musical icon...I ain't assuming anything...Heck, how many guys write stuff to be poetic and aren't being literal?
So P wrote her a romatic poetic letter. If I had been her I wouldn't have run out to outfit a damned baby nursery based on that letter considering that any sort of concrete "discussion" either.
I'm beginning to think that the bothersome "inconsistancies" were because folks read with a mind towards not wanting to believe what they were reading, so they found what they were looking for.
Look, I'm a P fan, period. If anything, I was a Vanity fan as far as Purple Harem goes. I watched many gals come and go before Mayte. So many in fact, I often get confused cuz it got to be sooooo many and some I missed on even hearing about until after 4/21.
I thought Mayte was pretty, didn't know much about her, thought he looked happy, but that's about it...so those who think I'm "defending" her cuz I'm a "Mayte fan"...Yeah, no.
I just don't like bullies and I think some are deliberately trying to discredit her out of either jealousy (I see y'all) or some kind of misguided P loyalty. She hasn't hurt P, but y'all act like he could do no wrong.
I get it. I love him too, but baby boy could be...very alot. Let's be real. VERY VERY ALOT. [Edited 4/24/17 7:45am]

That was me...Lbrent..In the Video she says we never talked about babies...She did not use the word Discussed otherwise I would come to the same conclusion you just did..
I am NOT against Mayte to be clear...I am for her...But I have noticed that there are things that she says that are inconsistant.
In that letter...It was VEry Clear that he wanted to have babies with her. In the Video SHe made it sound like it was News to her and that she went along with it.
I can cut her some slack..not being used to media..Nerves pressure whatever...but It doesnt mean I dont notice the inconsistancies...

I just had someone in my life wander past me on my laptop and ask me what I was typing and I gave them a brief explanation about us having a bit of a discussion about Mayte's book.
They aren't a P fan and have no clue who M1 & M2 are but I sorta explained enough so they could understand the drama a bit.
This person said to me, "Wow. Sounds intense. Well, maybe that Mayte gal will read what y'all are talking about and a lightbulb will go off over her head about it all."
I hadta laff cuz that would be pretty interesting if that happened so long after the events we're talking about, huh?

Well honey, if he wrote that poetic stuff to me I would'nt consider that having a "talk" either. Lol
And to be honest, unless we sat down and had a face-to-face talk, I would'nt have thought it was a serious thing, just him being poeticand romantic and in the moment.
But that's just me.

I guess its hard for me to believe that when he wrote that letter about wanting to have a baby only with her, and If not her then no one else.. That at some point she wasnt emotionaly moved to say something to him about what I consdier to be deeply touching words..
But thats just ME

Yup. He was a genius savant, his higher self was made out of some kind of crazy extraterrestrial spun gold, and parts of his personality and coping skills, were, in significant ways, a dysfunctional mess. That's WAY. MUCH. MORE. THAN. VERY. ALOT. Not like I love my guitar....

So many reasons why

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I recently read an article about savants and one guy had a brain injury that made him an incredible painter and he describes not being able to stop painting and doing it for 19 at a time cuz he "had to get it out of him". His brain wouldn't let him rest and when he didn't have canvas he painted the walls and floors of his home.
Another guy also had a brain injury and suddenly he saw complex mathematical eqyations everywhere, literally in the air in front of him. And when those equations were analyzed they created intricate geometric shapes. He was hounded by the math and shapes and couldn't stop creating them.
They both spoke of seeing rows and rows of corridors filled with their savant gift (painting and math) and the corridors being never ending. And that overwhelming urge to "get it out of their head so they could rest". They describe that their hunger to keep painting or doing math was unending and although they enjoyed it they also sounded quite tortured by it.
I think that's what P went through with music. He talks about having to get out of bed cuz the music wouldn't turn off and let him sleep.
Sure, it was a gift...but in some ways it was also a bit of a curse. Always be hounded by your favourite thing and not always being able to appreciate or participate in it within the context of a functional life...and healthy relationships and such.
It's a wonder to me how P lasted 57, nearly 58 years on this planet and had any meaningful human connections that his gifts didn't have a measure in ruining to some extent.

Yep..I think he even said this same thing himself
I felt a sudden rush of compassion for him just now writing this... He also said.. When you're called You're called...
THe man definately had a HIGHER Purpose.. Almost like some duty to perform, He was driven by some kind of inexhaustable cosmic feul that in the end , exhausted his body...
He was spent..... | |

What does sex assault have to do with what we are talking about. I feel if someone is saying different things, that makes their story unbelievable. You can't say different things and expect to be believed. What she says in interviews is a different story from what she is saying in the book. Be angry. I said noting wrong. Just because I question her story does not mean, I have no compassion for her or other women.
