Yes, she did say that line in the book, on p. 135. . Now I know it's her life and she's very classy in how she handles things. But saying "If it wasn't you, it would have been someone else"...No No No, that is being too soft! You can forgive, but you don't excuse people's behavior. I almost feel like with the statement "If it wasn't you, it would have been someone else," she's excusing the behavior. Also, it kind of suggests or implies that Prince was prone to infidelity, but she never mentions any other instances of him being unfaithful during their marriage. In fact, I think that the relationship with Mani was the only infidelity she mentioned him having once he and Mayte were officially a couple. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) . She mentions that "he had a lot of women" on p. 135, but she never really goes into detail about him having anny affairs except for Mani. Yeah, her response startled me, too. It shows a passive and defeated attitude to me. I'm sure she knew the drill from the years before they were married, but this was different. As for whether or not he only cheated with Manuela, I don't know. I remember an org member here recalling her encounter with Prince, while he was still supposedly married to Mayte but things were already on the rocks - how he tried to pick her up after his concert and she naively went to his tour bus, where it was clear what he wanted. It was a very detailed story. She didn't seem like the stereotypical groupie and ends up turning him down, saying,'aren't you married?'[meaning to Mayte]. Who knows if it's true but I have to say I found it disturbing. If I recall I think Prince's people try and track her down again and this time she's pregnant and declines. It's all on here on some thread. Nuts.

Here is the link to let me know if anyone is interested in a book club for Alex Hahn's book.

Hmmm...
I thought she meant that in the past he had had alot of women. I wasn't thinking she meant during their marraige...But if that's what she meant then for me that goes right back to watching how her parents had other people during their marraige and I think growing up that way she didn't like it, but she may have assumed "monogamy" like many women do (not me though). As long as he doesn't publicly "disrespect" the wife and is discreet, she won't make a fuss cuz she feels the other gals don't mean anything to him and "men have needs".
I don't understand women who feel that way, but lawd knows there are plenty who do and they turn a blind eye to the shenanigans as long as the guy doesn't throw it in their face and takes care of the bills and makes them feel loved when he's not with the jumpoff.
Lotsa those men also never intend to leave their wives/kids either, they just like "strange p*ssy".

According to P in September, 2012, he wasn't pining @ PP for anything from the 90's.
"It's a driving song," Prince says. "The world is so jagged, I like smooth waves. It's the way I live now. When Larry (Graham) first came around here (in the '90s) we had a lot of crazy people in here. Now, no one argues, no one swears, no one smokes, no one talks harsh. We all enjoy each other. You don't know what that's like till you start living like that, because for a long time I didn't. It was affecting me up here (points to his head), which in turn affected me here (points to throat). I changed the way I operate. A lot of my contemporaries didn't. That's the reason I'm still here, and a lot of them aren't."

Mayte can clearly speculate as to his thoughts about that, but he's pretty clear in what he said publicly about it.

Um
He also clearly publicly said the their marraige was "annulled" and they were going to "remarry".
Sooo, I'm gonna pass on taking P's mouth as a prayerbook.
But, of course, everyone's mileage may vary.

Then why believe his poetry, his words are his thoughts both spoken and sung, can't really say all his words are bull, but his songs are truth

Haha were his lips moving again? :hide:
I don't know why, but this week I seem to have too many jokes about this.
IN GENERAL, though I'm glad I read this book. And it hasn't changed my opinions about Prince at all. I still love his music, I have always thought he was a highly intelligent jerk who was also a nice guy when he wasn't being a jerk, and OMG he is slightly crazy, isn't he.
I also think Mayte did her in this book. I don't know if I believe every single thing she wrote, but basically, what she wrote was no worse than anything else anyone else put out there, and damn if I'm not okay with her putting herself before 'protecting' Prince. Not her circus, not her monkeys. lol I imagine myself inside your bedroom; oh, I imagine myself in your sky.

Remember Prince was very troubled during the 90s, he changed his name and was clearly fighting battles, personal and public. I think he was much calmer after that decade. . [Edited 4/20/17 16:40pm] Baby, you're a star.

Another way you could look at her book. It is the closest well ever get to an autobiography from Prince.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
From someone who only knew him for a small time in his life and still cannot tell us much.

If you are looking for an autobiography, the 50 or so pages that Prince reportedly wrote are all that we have that qualifies. Second hand memories are simply that...this book offers Maytes's take on how things happened, not those of Prince. I hope they decide to publish what Prince left for us...I would buy it in a minute.

Really? I suppose all the thousands of songs he wrote were just something he read in a book? Or something somebody else thought about? Hmmmmm. God is my Sugar Daddy.

She also said and wrote she never called him Prince and I provided the info where she said, in an interview, she honestly couldn't STOP calling him Prince and he'd "get the arse" every time she did. She also wrote her mother gave her tape to him and then said in other inteviews it was her mother/father/Papa Smurf who did and went on Arsenio where said she showed him the "3 coin" trick and that was how they met. Nah, her words aren't golden. What P said in 1998 vs what he said in 2012, after reflection, speak more to his state of mind. You can believe whatever you want. Intelligent people see it for what it is. God is my Sugar Daddy.

Well, my only defense is that 1) I'm a woman, and 2) I'm grown...therefore, I reserve the right to pick and choose who and what I do or do not believe.
That is all. Carry on.

Fact is: Mayte wrote her book, from her point of view, the book was well received and is a best seller. More facts for ya. The book club was a success and there is more to come.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Fact: It is fallling down the bestseller list and it is a book full of half-truths and lies.
What is more to come part II? . Where someone tells about their own life. I am going to say no because if she did not splash Prince's face on the cover no one would be interested in this women.
We got 1800 songs that people care about and about 30 years to hear them. People will be talking about Prince for a long time. They will not be talking about Mayte.

This is a little off topic, but as this is the main place I'm hanging out here at the moment, I just wanted to let you guys know I recorded a podcast last weekend with Zach Hoskins for the anniversary. It got kinda long, but in some of the later parts we discuss Mayte's book, and the new book by Ben Greenman, as well as discussing our thoughts about how we've processed P's death. In the first part we just do a general discussion of our own histories with Prince and reflect on why he matters, both to us personally and more generally. Anyways, hope you are all doing okay, on this special day of sadness and celebration. Purple love (and more) to you all. https://princesongs.org/2...are-jones/ Not like I love my guitar....

How hard is it to find out what is on the bestseller list?

Why would you check on her book, you know, the woman that you hate, and yet have never met, the one woman on this forum that you spit the most vile things at? In fact, why are you even here on the book thread? All you are doing and all you ever do is stir the pot. So go away, and leave us alone over here on the book thread. We haven't bothered you, we've stayed contained to our own little area. So Get.

Thank you for this. I can totally relate with your comment "...hit me like a ton of bricks". I knew he existed, I knew about his music, but it was after his passing that I began to read anything/everything about him, watch non-stop youtube videos, listen to his music. A great part of 2016 was about him, I somehow was trying to squeeze in 30+ yrs into 1 yr. I was totally blown away by his creativity. I'll concentrate on the music; otherwise, it is too sad and tragic... what his former wife wrote about him...everything that is coming out. Prayers for his soul and to all of you that have been his fams since youth on this 1 year anniversary.
