How could that be? All planes were grounded, if they were in the air they had to land at the closest airport, they weren't allowed to take off. The only planes that were allowed in the air was AirForce 1 and the fighter jets.

I wondered about that as well. And I can't remember the timeline from that day as far as how long it took before all aircraft was grounded. I suppose it's possible they flew before that happened ?

Well I thought about the time difference too but that would make it pretty early in Laughlin, from NY time. It's a 4 hour difference isn't it?

The flight time between Laughlin and Los Angeles is a little under an hour.

Correct. The flight time is less than 60 mins.

And she does state in the acknowledgements at the end of the book that --- in the interest of space some events were condensed and some characters composited for length.

Personally, I don't think bringing up 20 year old tabloid rumors adds to the book discussion. Again just my humble opinion. I am ok with being wrong about this.

I think that if anything, to set the record straight once again, and if true, to show that the separation was not one-sided.

Someone else mentioned things being brought up and not fully addressed and why she would stay in Spain despite knowing what was going on back in the US. This, dated June, 1999, has her at a party with Joaquin Cortes. It's from a Spanish newspaper.

And Pennypurple brought up the same things I was thinking in regard to the private jet on 9/11 and the drinking. She never states when she did start drinking in the book, but suddenly, there it was.

There just seems to be too much blame on Larry and M2 without any acknowledgement of Mayte's shortcomings at this time. She didn't fly to MN and check things out for herself, or LA or NY or wherever he was. She writes she just waited – buy why? Who was stopping her from going?

Not really. The assistant guy told me a bunch of stuff, but that's all I remember about Mayte... I think he went to Hawaii with them.

He also had a bunch of stories about Cat and Prince, which my memory isn't really helping with, caue I don't think he was at Paisley during SOTT/Lovesexy time. So, I'm a bit confused about that...

Welcome Misslink, I am glad you decided to come to the Book Club. I wish you would've been here from Chapter 1.

The Auction:

The stuff that was left in possesion was legally hers, she got it in lieu of money. When that auction 1st started, it was stuff that Owen, Dez and Mayte were trying to get rid of. From what I've read (here on the org) and I'm not going thru 1000's of posts to try to find it, Prince was really trying to get Owen's stuff pulled, I don't think he really cared about the crap Mayte had. He wasn't interested for 20 years about it....I think the auction house got kinda freaky because they knew Prince had the money to drag it out for a LONG time, the auction house pulled it and didn't want no part of it. The stuff Mayte had, he had his lawyer call her and said Prince would buy the stuff back. I actually think Prince was doing this because he thought Mayte really needed the $$. She had that stuff stored in special storage, and tried to reach out to Prince several times about it. When his lawyer called and asked for a list, she probably wasn't in a hurry to get to him, because he no longer controlled her and she'd do it on her own time. Then the unthinkable happened and Prince died.

If I was her (and I'm not) I wouldn't have included her ring OR the proposal letter, or the wedding dress. I would have held onto that for sentimental reasons, for the rest of my life. That other stuff like the blue outfit (which I never liked that outfit) would've been put in the auction. That was/is legally her property to do with what she liked.

As far as this dude in Spain is concerned I don't think it's ever been proven that she did have an affair with him. Mayte has said in her book that she regrets not getting her azz back to MN and maybe if she would've been with him more instead of staying in Spain or visiting her parents and sister that it might have helped the marriage survive. So she does have regrets and takes some blame in the divorce. If she would've stayed in MN then Mani wouldn't have been able to get her foot in the door. But that is just my opinion.
