whew Some thoughts at the end of it all: Why on earth did she stay in Spain when she knew what he and Mani were up to back in MN? She was much too trusting and it was used against her. I can't imagine how painful it was to hear he was marrying mani. Crushing! Gosh I dislike m2 so much for having such utter disrespect for another woman and her marriage. The mental anguish alone she must have caused I mean who does that and can sleep peacefully?? Ugh. Add the whole religious twist and it makes her behavior incredibly calculated, insincere, and hypocritical to say the least. She is not involved with the JW anymore either if i recall so I don't find anything redeeming about her at all. The end. All that aside if I had been in Mayte's shoes there's no way I would have stayed in Spain under the circumstances and with everything she knew so I hate to say it but she sort of just sat back and let it happen. shrug I also don't have anything against the JW faith. I still believe LG's role in all this was dubious. I have a problem with the individual not the faith. All in all a good book that gave me a lot of perspective about a specific time in his life. I appreciated her story and don't feel he's any less deserving of my love, respect, and admiration. He was human and as such had flaws. As we all do. They were just making their way the best they could with the hand they were dealt. She had accepted the way things turned out and that's good enough for me. As far as the "seizures" theory I don't think it was the case at all. I work with a woman who had a seizure disorder as a small child and she grew out of it. So it is possible for them to go away in some cases. I don't think it's realistic that he could have hidden such a disorder all those years and there is no way he could have been self medicating such a condition for all those years. Where would he get those meds without being under the care of a doctor for such? No way. [Edited 4/16/17 21:42pm]

Sunshine, your first paragraph, I totally agree with! Why did she stay in Spain? Especially when she knew Mani was scheming? She realized too late that she was no longer the girl in Minn.

.
As for the seizures, IDK, I’m sort of on the fence. Maybe LBrent help, can seizures go away for decades without meds then return?
.
I always thought it funny that prince mentioned childhood seizures on the Tavis Smily show. He said something about having them as a very small child then thinking he was cured (long story, not going to type). Anyway, I always thought it was interesting that he would bring that up in the first place. The interview was around 2009, what would make him think of a childhood illness almost 50 years later and it be on his mind to the extent where he would mention it on a talk show? Were they returning? Did they never go away? Why mention them at all? I guess something we’ll never know.

Seizures have been known to stop occcuring for various reason and varying time periods, but the underlying condition still exists. Think of it like MS or Cancer going into remission or a dormant state where itt's not active, but it still exists.

sonshine, I didn't mean he was self-medicating on his own. Prescription medications that are used for controlling seizure were amoung the pills found in his belongings at PP. But they aren't newer medications, they are what was being subscribed many years ago.

Like he just kept getting the old-fashioned stuff prescribed instead of trying newer medications that might've been more effective.

I dunno why he mentioned epilepsy on Tavis Smiley either. Kinda odd to bring up a condition from so long ago, unless it was on his mind...and he wanted to guage if folks would accept him despite finding out he wasn't "perfect".

shrug

I feel LG and the JW religion is exactly what Prince needed. He needed something more powerful then a woman to guide him. He was just too stubborn spiteful and prideful. Prince knew God and he knew his soul wasn't right, it wasn't going to be saved and that he'd have to one day suffer the consequences of his actions to all those he hurt and did wrong.

She told off her mom and her strict grandma. I'm wondering what the grandma said back to her. LOL

I thought about the belly dancing outfit also. There were a few things like that (the strip club) where I think he was pushing her away, picking fights, trying to create space to make it easier to split. IDK really, but that is what I thought after a few situations sounded silly to me.

Yes the annulment. Since Prince said it in (what was it) 1998, I wonder if that will ever be corrected in the minds of most Prince fans. Like she said.... guess what not everything you read on the internet is true.....

She doesn't say what grandma said but her sister is still with the other person (forgot her name), so hopefully the family is all ok.

To me the belly dancing outfit and the strip club is showing her disrespect. Who knows what was going on in his head.

As for the annulment papers, it would have been a big fight because I would have taken those papers and ripped them up in his face. There is no way I would have signed them. At first, I was thinking that it was to make the marriage void in the eyes of the JWs, but now I'm wondering if he showed them to M2 to make her think that the marriage was over before it was really over?

So treating your wife badly and leaving her for another woman is ok by God?

....but doing this at the expense of dishonoring the marital covenant? Not to take this into a religious direction on this Easter Monday, but the bible is very clear in that what God hath joined together in holy matrimony let no man put asunder. I'm not particularly fond of the adultery aspect in the scenario either.

Now that could be a possibility.

Keep the new gal on the hook thinking the old relationship is being dissolved as he did some fancy footwork to buy himself time.

Yes, I agree with your point about the drug use and also him not sharing much with her regarding the WB conflict. I truly think Prince loved and adored Mayte, but I think he was a hopeless romantic and always getting engaged to people. I think the idea of being married was more exciting than actual marriage at that juncture in his life. The idea of 'owning' Mayte also seemed to be appealing to him. He blatantly kept her out of Egypt, even though she could have gone for one year and still ended up in the 7 video, etc. He also said in interviews in 1999 that he was co-dependent and also didn't like it when people spoke to Mayte. Also, I think the April 96 overdose incident is very telling that he was overwhelmed by the situation he was in for many different reasons, and not sure how to handle it.

- The 'hypnosis' thing: I am really really interested in what people think about this...I cannot for the life of me decide if it is supersweet or creepy af. What do people think is going on with it? The way she describes it, it seems clear that at least for him, it was a way of achieving a certain kind of intimacy with her that he didn't seem to have access to in 'real time.' For some reason it seems there was something about it that allowed him to give up his usual need to be completely in control...but somehow, by doing something which could, in itself, be seen as quite controlling. Mayte obviously experienced it as a way of levelling the power and connecting with him and seems to really have treasured it, so I'm not judging or saying she was wrong to feel that way about it...but just wondered about people's thoughts...

- I do find it weird and interesting that he clearly wasn't talking to her about the WB thing...which considering how huge it was, and how much it seemed to get him fucked up in certain ways (the weight he lost / all the stories about how angry he was, going off on long rants at band members etc.)...is illuminating...at least with regard to what we have been saying about the fantasy aspect of the relationship / how he kept anything 'ugly' or negative out of it. I get he might have wanted an oasis, and that seems understandable...but it also speaks to how little practice they had a dealing with challenging life stuff together in partnership, and how maybe P was never really able to do that with anyone...which is pretty heartbreaking...('Oh little purple guy, everyone knows how strong you are, and everyone will still love you if you're weak sometimes' *sniff*)

- Which brings us to...(and I know this is a controversial topic, so sorry if I offend anyone)...I think Mayte's story tells us very very clearly that with hindsight she recognizes that Prince was sometimes using drugs...basically 'I never saw it, he didn't want me to' says, 'I didn't see it, but I realize now it was happening from time to time and he hid it from me.' There are at least two concrete instances, the overdose, and when he asked her to flush the pills, and then, the 'troubling incidents,' him acting 'loopy', having a migraine, sounding sad and distant and foggy, the disappearing Vicodin, the vomit on the carpet... I think it's also clear from what she says that at least during those years, it was, genuinely, occasional. But I think from what she tells us there is good reason to believe that Prince's drug use was also, from time to time, emotional in nature...and that kind of makes sense to me. He had his coping strategies / defense mechanisms, which were powerful, but limited, and given his background, it makes sense to me that sometimes he would find himself in extreme pain, and not know how to handle it, and that that was his method of last resort...

The hypnosis is beyond weird - it's super creepy. Who does that? confuse Where did he learn how to do that? It makes me wonder if he practiced some type of weird religion like witchcraft or something.

It wasn't real hypnosis. Mayte says that in the book.

It was more like guided deep meditation.

Joaquin was very big in Spain at the time and there was talk about a possible affair. Of course word got to Prince. Being a typical controlling male, he felt his masculinity was being ridiculed, even though apparently he was already cheating with Mani. Go figure.

Did she have an affair with the dancer? Who knows? Possibilities:
.
-Maybe she did not have an affair, since when do we believe the tabloids?
-Maybe that is what Mayte and P were fighting about in addition to mani?
-She does say she was lonely, he was a dancer so maybe they just hung out?
-Maybe he is now happily married and asked her not to mention him?
-Durning one their fight he goes off on a long rant, maybe both accusing each other?
-Why address rumors? Especially not in the book?
-Maybe the tabloids reported it in the US much more than Spain. She was so isolated she didn’t really hear the rumors?
-Maybe it did happen but at the end of the marriage, after she realizes there is no hope, he was gone already anyway?
-Maybe he started the rumors to make it easier to leave her?
-Maybe it was such a complicated issue it would take up more space in the book than it’s worth. The story after all is about her and P.
-The supposed relationship with the dancer is lo late in the marriage would it have tipped the scales?
-P was very possessive, maybe she wanted to make him jealous to get his attention and started the rumors herself?
-I don’t think lipstick alley is a reliable source for anything.
.
This entire question goes back to what was asked by one of the haters on another thread. Why isn’t she telling on herself? We have one more chapter to go. In the grand scheme of the entire story, this story would be useless filler. JMHO
.
And she does state in the acknowledgements at the end of the book that --- in the interest of space some events were condensed and some characters composited for length.
Personally, I don't think bringing up 20 year old tabloid rumors adds to the book discussion. Again just my humble opinion. I am ok with being wrong about this.

Well, she did address other rumours, so why not this one?
I think that if anything, to set the record straight once again, and if true, to show that the separation was not one-sided.

Prince was probably reverting back to his player ways, but found that it's a little more difficult when it is widely known htat you're married. Decent women would not give him the time of day.

It's possible that he was stringing M2 along and she gave him an ultimatum and he produced these fake anulment papers. It's the case of a married man having a mistress and he keeps making promises to the mistress, but she sees no evidence that he is going to leave the wife and presses him to put up or shut up. So imo, that would still mean that M2 is a homewrecker gold digging scank.

I don't know if M2 should get credit as a homewrecker. She was doing her job as an enfatuated groupie. She just so happened to be cunning enough to get into P's universe. She was laying in wait and creating commonalities between them. She's a clever girl. I don't think she was simply a gold digger. I think that, like many, many female fans, she LOVED Prince and wanted to be his wife. She put her fantasy into action as soon as she graduated from college. Because of good planning and the fact that P was extremely vulnerable, her plan ended up working out in her favor. She was pretty enough to get his attention physically and then being just as 'charitable' as Prince and also into JW (which I totally think was contrived on her part)...boom! Perfect candidate for a new wife. Once his wife, you darn skippy she enjoyed the money, especially because she had none growing up. She seemed a little greedy in the divorce, but judging from her character, P could not have been surprised.

She did her job, P is the one to blame for the demise of his marriage, and for marrying a woman who manipulated her way into his universe. Sad but true.

Yes, he was asked about it in late 1999 and again in early 2000. I'll see if I can find the interview. If I recall correctly, it was an interview in Europe.

Who really knows what his intentions were but he never indicated to the media or to Mayte as wanting to leave her, although they were having issues in their marriage. Here is the actual statement released to the media in December 1998.

This isn't a movie. Where everything is closed up by the end. She said his attorney contacted her in early 2016. Prince died in April 2016. I would assume they never got around to fully discussing whether or not he wanted to buy back the possessions she had. I hope all these fans that were up and arms about her selling his things now see that she had his things for at least 15 years before putting up for sale and she made numerous attempts to contact him to give them back to him before doing so.

If I remember correctly, I don't have my book in front of me but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but she wrote that she kept all his clothing in a temperature controlled storage unit. I know how much I pay for a regular storage and pretty sure one that is temperature controlled cost a pretty penny.

You're correct. She said she kept his things in "climate controlled storage".

She was doing her job as an infatuated groupie.

Yes. I agree with your assessment of M2 but I do think she's equally culpable.

It was ultimately P's job to keep his relationship with Mayte safe from marauders, and he was weak.

But M2 deliberately put herself directly in his path with no regard for Mayte/their marraige or him for that matter.

The Universe has her payback lined up and no amounts of telling Mayte she's sorry or tryna be "friends" with her will stop the dharmic/kharmic retribution M2 set in motion for herself.

I suspect it ain't gonna be purty, either.

Who really knows what his intentions were but he never indicated to the media or to Mayte as wanting to leave her, although they were having issues in their marriage. Here is the actual statement released to the media in December 1998.

I remember rolling my eyes so hard at P blathering this nonsense.

BTW, in case anyone is wondering, this was definitely not a JW thing. It was all P.

Interesting though, that suddenly CONtracts were okay when he legally married M2. I rolled my eyes somemore at that.

P could be such a dunce sometimes. Sheesh

Nope. You're right, it's not always greener, but now M2's EB's problem.

They deserve each other.

May they be together forever...in this life and whatever comes after this life.

He studied hypnosis. His hairstylist kim also alluded to that.

Hypnosis. His songs "Hypnoparadise" and "Breathe" all make sense now. They relate to Mayte.

HYPNOPARADISE

All U can hear is the sound of my voice
Every time I touch your face
U gonna fall into a deep sleep
A deep sleep
A deep sleep

U are the reason I believe that I was born
U're always there 2 hold me whenever I am scorned
I'd give my left hand just 2 know your name
Shall I call U "Savior" just the same?

CHORUS
Hypno paradise, oh-oh-oh
Hypno paradise, oh-oh-oh

Am I in heaven or hypno paradise?
This must be heaven cuz hell was never nice
I don't need permission 2 be happy every day
As long as I got a freak like U, I'm straight

CHORUS

Oh paradise

Touch me I'll go under any spell U choose
I don't mind the loss my dear, when it comes 2 U, I'll lose
I can dig them all 2 be wrong as long as U're all right
This is my destiny — hypno paradise
Paradise (So nice)

(Oh yes)
(Say U wanna get it on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, yeah yeah yeah)

(Oh yes)
(Say U wanna get it on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, yeah yeah yeah)

U are the reason that I was born
U're always there baby when I am scorned
I'd give my left hand, just 2 know your name
My Savior, every day, yeah ooh

(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes)
(Come on, come on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes)

Hyp-no paradise
Hyp-no paradise
Hyp-no paradise
Hyp-no paradise

(Oh yes)
(Say U wanna get it on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, yeah yeah yeah)

(Hyp-no paradise)
(Hyp-no paradise)

Hyp-hyp-hyp-hyp-hyp
Hypno paradise
Hyp-no paradise
Hypno paradise oh
Hyp-no paradise

(Oh yes)
(Say U wanna get it on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, yeah yeah yeah)

(Hyp-no paradise) {x2}

She ties everything up up nicely concerning her life, it is her story after all, and gives meaning to her losses and how she has been given the gift of being a mother, etc. She highlighted what was important to her all through her book and if I still have questions, well I guess I can hope for additional info, or hope for a book by another ex-wife or associate. Maybe they can fill in some of the blanks.

And in my own little mind it's okay if she saw Joaquin and had parties while in Spain. If I don't love and accept The Beautiful People I end up hating them and being jealous and bitter of their mansions and fancy clothes and cars.
