Yeah she can sing I heard a couple of her songs. I don't understand why she couldn't get into the gospel industry as an artist and man the customers are very loyal. I don't she need the Prince connection because she have the look and the voice. People said she sang good at the Celebration. I think when she made her music she wanted to be secular. She can sang good as Yolanda Adams and Tamera Mann. I understand she said one time if she or Prince becomes famous they won't stand in the way or something like that but still she would been a good gospel singer.

I remember hearing the album Brand New Me several years ago and liking several songs from it. And, yes, you can hear the resemblance to Prince on some vocals which isn't that eerie since talent can run in families and the not famous sibling can have negative comparisons in the public forum. Think Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, for instance. Tyka has a nice voice and it is her's--it came from the same gene pool as Prince's. Thanks for posting this--I had nearly forgotten about the album and it is nice to hear it again. By the way, I remembered the name of Tyka's first album Royal Blue, which I found on youtube.

I was thinking the same thing. Same with "I Like It".

Her first album, Royal Blue (1988), is a good little pop & R&B record worth listening to. I still have the vinyl. That's when I learned she named her kids President and Sir, because she thanked them in the liner notes.

As a note, some of the Steeles played on that record, as well as Larry Graham. Ricky Peterson, Tom Tucker, and David Z., all past Prince folks, worked on Royal Blue as well in various roles. There is a blue vinyl pressing from Germany, too, for those who like those sorts of things.
