Shelby was one of my favorite singers that Prince worked with, and a beautiful, positive spirit, as well. I'm looking forward to her upcoming album. |

I guess I don't remember as much when she first started working with Prince but I've watched many concerts with Shelby (and Liv and Elisa) and the show is still all about Prince. If we want to debate why Shelby was on stage we could do the same with the Twins, Andy Allo etc. It's no mystery as to why Andy Allo and the Twins were there Maybe that's why Shelby was there too? Who knows? My theory would be that Prince liked her personality and voice so much that perhaps he gave her more stage time than what was necessary. One of the shows I went to had Prince leave the stage entirely while Shelby sang two songs. Had she opened the show, I wouldn't have had any issue with it. But halfway through the show? I felt it broke the momentum that had been built up to that point. It was still one of the best concerts I've ever been to, but it could have done without both Shelby's solo part and without her interjections during Let's Work, Controversy etc.
Do you care to elaborate? Just what are you implying? The Twins and Andy Allo are not comparable. The Twins are dancers. Andy is a singer/songwriter/guitarist. If I really need to elaborate, I will. HE WAS BANGING THEM ALL!!! I'm sorry but I find the notion that the only reason women were on stage or members of Prince's band(s) is because he was screwing them quite sexist. Paisley Park is in your heart

Not all shows are as tightly orchestrated and rehearsed as P's. Not by a long shot.
of course, not but that depends on time in the industry and on stage. But overall people rehearse to execute a show whether it is 1 song or 10 @ an awards show, a neighborhood spot or an arena.
And the more that is going on, the more musicians etc the more the show has to be tightly arranged
Even when Prince tried to push the Lovesexy aftershows off as on the spot, they were rehearsed too

I don't doubt there was a period in the late 80s/early 90s where he was involved with a number of different women. But for some reason that gets extrapolated out as if his entire career he was banging every woman he came across or worked with. It's nonsense IMO. Paisley Park is in your heart

You see, it's been debated a lot on the org whether Prince and Andy were a thing so if they were, and I think it's likely, then it's fair to assume they had sex at least a few times. As for the twins, well you can make your own mind up on that but if it ever came to light that he wasn't, and I mean definitively, WASN'T romancing at least one of them, I'd be slightly disappointed, given his reputation. So, yes, it was a joke but it was based in reality. I'd hardly call that sexist. Besides, can a female even be sexist? |

It is my belief that Prince and Andy were involved in a full-fledged relationship. That has nothing to do with whom he might have "banged" over the duration of his career. And, to answer your question, yes, women can be sexist. |

You're stating the obvious about the purpose of rehearsing. My point is this: Shelby J was not freestyling on Prince's stage. EVERYTHING was tightly rehearsed and orchestrated. So, if anyone has problems with Shelby's role in Prince's act, that was all P's doing. |

we don't know the full expression of it. To say everything that was done was because of Prince is not true. Of course he allowed it, but many people in his bands came up with ideas for the shows
Most of the SOTT/Lovesexy live shows was Cat's ideas Shelby could have easily said "how about I do this in the show..." |

Yes, Cat was the choreographer for those tours, but it's highly unlikely that she debuted new ideas during shows. Again, that was done in rehearsal. Same thing with Shelby. If she said "how about I do this in the show..." to Prince, you can bet she would have done that in rehearsal. Period. |

Of course. Prince didn't do stuff not rehearse either outside of probably pulling folk out of the audience. But we cannot rule out a little impromptu action like this. But it is just as likely that it was Shelby's ideal as well. Period.

Ah Shelby was a good hype(wo)man live, I thought she was good. I have to admit I wasn't a fan when she was given a few ballads to sing live and P was backstage playing ping pong or whatever but those big ballads just aren't my kind of music, she certainly has lungs.
