Was Denise Prince's prettiest protege? I personally think that Denise Matthews was Prince's prettiest protege...the woman had it all beauty, charisma, talent. The list could go on. I also believe that they were soulmates but that's a whole other story. What do you guys think? Who was Prince's prettiest protege in your opinion? [Edited 11/26/16 21:17pm]

In her prime Vanity was stunning, she makes Halle Berry well look plain. I think all of Prince's female proteges were beautiful, but to me Vanity and Sheila E really stood out.

Vanity was absolutely beautiful. Nothing & no one compares to Vanity's beautiful look. [Edited 11/26/16 20:56pm]

The beautiful one. | |

She was strikingly beautiful! I haven't come across anyone that matches her beauty at all.

Yes! Denise is Prince's beautiful one!

Halle Berry's beautiful but she doesn't even come close Denise's beauty. Denise was strikingly beautiful. Both with and without makeup on. Nobody matches this woman's beauty for me at all. [Edited 11/26/16 22:36pm]

She was pretty but I don't think she was the most beautiful. His ladies were all very pretty. Hard to choose one that's much more than another. To me she had somewhat of a "hard" look to her. Some sharp edges to her facial structure. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

All of Prince's women were absolutely stunning! He had great taste. My favorites are Carmen Electra (his second prettiest protege IMO), Susan Moonsie, Kim Upsher and the latest one being Andy Allo. I loved that he dated women from all ethnic backgrounds. They each had something special to admire, but none of them compared to Vanity in my eyes. She was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen when I was 11 years old. I remembered being so proud to see such a beautiful black/biracial woman that actually resembled me and the girls in my community (including the Hispanic girls as well.) It wasn't a very common thing to see a woman that looked like us on our tv screen back then, (thank you Prince ) I think she paved the way for many... We all idolized her. We were all devastated when they broke up and we found out she wasn't going to be in Purple Rain anymore. The Last Dragon, while it wasn't a very popular mainstream movie, was a fixture on every young girls tv screen in my neighborhood. We had no idea this movie wasn't a blockbuster. Where I came from, it was HUGE and she was every young boys dream girl, and apparently all the men in Hollywood if her dating record had anything to say about it. She gave Prince a run for his money. She was everything to us. She still remains one of the most beautiful and charismatic woman I've ever seen. And what a wonderful couple she and Prince made! They were beautiful together! So yes! In my eyes Denise was the most beautiful Prince protege.... She had a tough struggle, but I'm so happy that in the end she was able to find peace in her Christian faith.

That pics comes from this cool Pointer Sisters video - He Turned Me Out from the Action Jackson Soundtrack (1988) featuring Vanity.

When I met Vanity, I was at [night-club] First Avenue, in the mezzanine area. Before anyone even said a word, I felt a quickening in the air. Within seconds, people started buzzing, "Vanity's here, Vanity's here." I saw her coming through, one of the most beautiful women you could ever lay eyes on, packed into latex or whatever second skin, looking exquisit." ~-Albert Magnoli~

Agree with all the above. Soulmates?...no.

Yeah, I'm not on board with her being the prettiest either. Too manly looking for that. Not soulmates either. I can't really pick one over another, they were all attractive at some level. Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end

I do not know if she even knew what she meant culturally and historically to so many at the time. I have read over andover what you posted so eloquently. I think she and Prince were special and he did very classy tributes to her when she died. Especially when he kept singing Denise, Denise, Denise. It was touching.

I just do not see how she looked hard. She was the total package and there was something about her that was fun and not boring . When she died I was crushed. I admire her so much especially her being an evangelist too. She made big changes and never looked back. Courageous and Inspiring.

I really don't see where she looks hard but as the cliche goes - Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder. I think she is stunning!

Thank you Vashtix. I love listening to Prince's tribute to her. It brings me joy to hear him say they loved each other deeply and also reaffirm that The Beautiful Ones was partly written about her. I also agree with you that she didn't look hard. Her beauty was elegant and exotic. Softly refined in my opinion, but as you said beauty is in the eye of the beholder... [Edited 11/29/16 18:46pm]

Vanity was definitely a stunningly beautiful woman; but all his women were! They all had something different and unique about them and all had their own special beauty, and Prince obviously saw that.

Interesting article Paisley Park’s Consideration: 14 Rarities That Need to Be on the New Purple Rain Reissue https://andresmusictalk.w...n-reissue/ 13. Vanity 6’s Version of “Sex Shooter“Experienced Princeologists know that Apollonia Kotero, whose boobs costarred as Prince’s romantic leads in the Purple Rain movie, wasn’t the first pair of breasts to front his cheesecakey girl-group side project, Apollonia 6. In fact, Purple Rain was already nearing the end of pre-production, and its accompanying soundtrack had already begun recording, when Prince’s original protégée Denise “Vanity” Matthews was dismissed from the project. As far as the sole A6 track in the movie is concerned, that’s a shame: because like everything else in the Vanity-to-Apollonia transition (except, arguably, the aforementioned boobs), the original was superior. The Vanity 6 version of “Sex Shooter” has a grittier sound, with more prominent guitar (played, presumably, by the man himself); more importantly, though, the eternal bad girl Vanity makes a much more convincing “Sex Shooter” than Apollonia ever did. No matter how many black lace teddies and fishnets Prince and Purple Rain director Albert Magnoli had her wear, Apollonia could never not come across as the wide-eyed girl next door. But Vanity was all too convincing as the steely-eyed madame of the group Prince originally wanted to dub “the Hookers”; and when she suggestively smirks “blow me away” toward the end of this outtake, she sells it. In fact, one almost wonders how different Purple Rain the movie might have been had Vanity stayed in the leading-actress role. One thing’s for sure: if the Kid had told Vanity to purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka, he would have taken a stiletto boot heel to the scrotum. Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

[Edited 11/26/16 20:46pm] [Edited 11/26/16 21:20pm] In this picture especially her facial features are very angular, definitely not soft or refined. No argument she was pretty, but some of the others were easier on my eyes anyway. No argument either that Prince had deep feelings for her, but she wasn't unique in that department either. I think he fell deeply in love with many beautiful women. Until the next one came along. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. Gorgeous smile, great bone structure, and beautiful eyes. Vanity is radiant!
I think her, Jill Jones, Apollonia, Cat, Susan, and Mayte are all pleasing to the eye.

The Vanity6 version of Sex Shooter is so much better; Apples is okay but yeah what that article said is so true. Purple Rain would have been a different movie

Co-sign on the article. I just listened to both recordings of Sex Shooter. I like the Vanity's (V6) edgier, funkier version. Thanks for posting the article Goddess4real.

People keep speaking bout Vanity sex shooter version is/was better but leave out that it was only a demo ... and i am sure if she had gotten a chnce to do the movie the production would have been to apples version but with a way better vocal delivery and emotion in it amd i will not even mention a better performance of it in the movie / video and live ... sorry apple's performances of the song was dreadful and her body was shaped like A CAPITAL Y
