One reason i have a fondness in my heart for prince's first
2 backing groups was Andre Cymone and DEz.
Andre isn't mentioned too much these days when ROCk critics
talk about P's roots-but from what i've read and heard FROM
people who go back WAY far in prince's teen years,DRE was
a key figure, my first impressions of him when i saw prince's early performances was the dude was BASS as a motha
on bass,looked like a taller version of Prince and had the
perfect vibe with his high school buddy.
Owen HUsney has said 'Dre had just as much talent a Prince.
He just didn't get the same break.
i have all of andre's albums and they were interesting.
(AC the one with DANCE ELectric is the best) i think his
best work was doing everything on JODy's hit album-
Looking for a new love..a hot tune back in the day..

so the questions are this AC fans: is andre overlooked by
most fans? and was OWEN correct in his saying 'dre was a
Good as prince?

I think Andre was (musically speaking) not quite as good as Prince..

he claimed that had the idea to start The Time..
who knows if that's true or not.


Based on what I've read from different sources, Andre ended up being rather jealous of Prince. IF this is true, then maybe that got in the way of him doing more.

He kind of "made up" for that though, in the mid-80s.. producing all those "hits" for Jody Whatley.


Anyway, he definitely was a real influence on & with Prince early in his career. I liked his look, too.


I'm presuming when P get inducted into the RnRHoF, Andre
WON'T
be there, like a lot of other former bandmates & associates..

hmm.. I wouldn't say Andre was as good as Prince, per se, but he definately had an influence over Prince.

just as Talented&the Jody Watley Stuff proved that.Andre Goofed trying to do New-Wave&Working with Lightweight Acts on that whole Style but the Cat is Very Talented.the reason why Andre doesn't get the same amount of Props has to do with the "SONGS" Period IMHO.if Andre had Songs things might have been different because on Prince's Earlier Shows Andre got alot of Props&could easily hold His Own.Andre&Prince's High School Music Teacher also said that back then He would have Betted His Money on Andre as well.Cats like Andre&Jesse Johnson could hang with Prince Musically,but Prince was the first to get His thang out there&also Had His Image&Persona there but make no mistake these Cats are Just as Bad overall IMHO.
