SHEILA E Salutes Prince with Dignity and Spirit

Prince was never one to give speeches. In probably his last high-profile national TV appearance, on the Grammy Awards in 2015, he simply said: “Like books and black lives, albums still matter.”

If you were to ever encounter him offstage, he might have said: “Kids matter. Education matters. Foodshelves matter.” But instead of giving speeches about those issues, he quietly gave money to organizations that promoted youth programs, education and hunger relief. His gifts were usually anonymous.

The late Minnesota music icon’s humanitarianism was celebrated Sunday night at Orchestra Hall with a concert organized by Sheila E, his former drummer and fiancee, with proceeds going to Purple Philanthropy, various causes that he supported.

Bless her...

As the band struck up the recognizable, brooding beat of “Sign O’ the Times,” Sheila E emerged from the back of Orchestra Hall with a snare strapped across her chest and led a string of percussionists through the crowd like a drum corps major making her way into battle.

And, what is the problem with that? Sorry, I don't get all the negativity when some want to do these tributes. Are they just supposed to forget all about Prince then? We are talking about those who have known and worked with him for a long time. Damn if they do, damn if they don't. disbelief

What's "negative" is that there were duelling tributes. Maybe that wasn't the intent, but that's the end result, with media reports such as this one pitting the two tributes against each other.

Sounds like this was a great show. 👍🏻

Still wish there would have been ONE tribute that included everyone from the beginning of his career until the end. That actually would have been worthy of 5 hours. smile

That said, from all accounts, Sheila put on a show for the ages. Hats off to her.

Sheila put on a great show. I saw a few Prince associates, Eric and Alan Leeds, Monte Moir, and Gilbert Davison. Sheila took my hat and wore it for a song. biggrin

My apologies I misunderstood you the first time. I see what you mean now since they had the other one last week. Wow, Minneapolis has been very busy lately, LOL!

This. I enjoyed the tribute concert on 10/13 but I kept hoping that Sheila would pop up as a surprise.

I was wondering where she got that hat! I couldn't see where it came from from my seat closer toward the back

What's "negative" is that there were duelling tributes. Maybe that wasn't the intent, but that's the end result, with media reports such as this one pitting the two tributes against each other.

This was not a dueling tribute. This was to rise money for charities he supported it was advertised as such. Stop beliving everything the media writes. They are only interested in getting clicks and they think they can only do it be reporting on something negative or making something negative up from scratch.

Ask yourself this question how come the local media does not report on the charities Prince suppported maybe try to get the public to donate. Why are a lot of associates refusing to speak to the media?

"The media" is not scorning "dueling tributes." There is no conspiracy among journalist to bring dishonor/shame/etc to Prince and his legacy.

I was at the Sheila E show. Reps from the charities involved came out and spoke prior to the concert. They said that Prince had specifically requested that they not make his contributions public. They honored that request and that's why it wasn't reported in his lifetime. Once he died, the charities spoke out and it was reported on.

--/ When certain actions keep occurring it is not always a conspiracy. In fact I never wrote anything that said the media was working to pull Prince down. We are living in the world of corporate media. Negativity sells and don't think people don't bring their own opinions or feelings to the table when reporting the news. The fact is we now know about his charitable giving so why not report on it more? Even articles about this event took swings at the tribute concert. Why?
