Sheila E interview with the Star Tribune I love Sheila but this passage just doesn't quite sit right wit me. The way she talks if you didn't know any better you'd think she was his widow. Am I wrong to feel weird about this?
http://www.startribune.co...mp;clmob=y Her role in the post-Prince world
“People are walking up to me and they just want to hug me,” said Sheila. “They’re just crying. There’s no opportunity to say ‘Hi, what’s your name?’ Even out of nowhere. They say ‘I’m so sorry for your loss.’ As soon as they say that, I start crying. We’re all weeping together. It’s all been really positive. Sometimes you’re not prepared for strangers just grabbing you. I’m getting used to it. And I am a hugger.” Sheila said the outpouring from fans was not expected. “They’re calling me ‘the First Lady of Paisley Park,’ ” she said. “It’s very cute. I’ve never seen that before. People are praying for me. They’re sending e-mails to my website. Not just saying ‘I love you.’ They’re sharing their stories. I read every single one.” [Edited 10/21/16 15:09pm] Paisley Park is in your heart

This passage leapt off the page for me, too. Oh, Sheila... Contrast that with this: the week of the tribute concert Shelby J. brought her family to PP. She met and took pictures with fans. I read one fan story on FB where someone was watching the video of the Super Bowl performance and Shelby was there talking about the performance. This person started getting really emotional. Shelby grabbed her hand and held it tight for the rest of the video. It wasn't about Shelby it was about giving some comfort to a grieving fan. With Sheila it feels like it's all about her. I'm sure she doesn't mean it that way but that's how it comes across. Paisley Park is in your heart

The only people that have a problem with Sheila are certain types of messy male Prince fans and Prince's lesser talented jump-offs who can't really do the things Sheila does. I'm proud of her. As best I can think of, Prince only left behind 3 solid bandleaders that can carry a show: Morris, Sheila and Paul.

Yes, I agree. I think she channeled him flawlessly at the BET awards. Out of all of his exes, she stayed around P. off and on during the years still performing together and their chemistry was undeniable and you could see the love and friendship they still had for one another after all these years. They respected each other's talent so much and that says alot. Musical soulmates for sure, IMO. Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

To be honest, as I read the same article, it sounds like it's not Sheila's doing, but we the fans approaching her as if she was a widow. JMO Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

I don't get the negative responses. If I saw Sheila I would her a hug. She's been part of Prince's life for 30 years and when Prince was alive we all know how much we loved us some Sheila and Prince. And it's not like she sat around doing nothing. I just don't get it. I also noticed negative posts about Sheila remains while sussannah and mani gets deleted. What's up with that?

She is not calling herself that the fans and media are doing it. Do you not realize she knew him since he was 19?

I know it. Mayte has known him since she was what 17? In fact Sheila isn't the only one who knew him since they were teens.

Sheila's known him the longest, since they are around the same age. Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

Yeah but while Mayte was in diapers, Prince said to Sheila E in 1978 he liked her Latin Jazz sound.
And also Sheila remained part of Prince's life even after his divorced with Mayte. Yes Prince ane Sheila E did had a big fallout in 2011 but that was because Prince was at fault and wanted to add Larry Graham on his Welcome to America tour and there was no room for her and her family. So Sheila had the right to be pissed because her family are working musicians not elite like Prince. He can afford to cancel gigs or being push out while Sheila E and her family need all the gigs they are offer. But Sheila apparently got over the dispute and after his death she expressed genuinely love for the man.

Yes, but still, she's the one quoting in the media what the fans are saying, she doesn't have to mention it. Sounds like more one upmanship that we keep seeing from associates/exes lately. When was the last time she played/recorded at PP? There's always a rainbow 🌈 , at the end of every rain ☔️

Yep, and when was the last time Prince talked to her? And if they were so close, why didn't she do something to help Prince?
I don't get why some are so in love with Sheila. She has more to do with Prince now, after he's dead, then she did in the year before his death. $$

When was the last time she played/recorded at PP? That is what bothered me. Why would she even mention the 'First Lady of PP' comment? How much time did she spend there over the years? I'll bet some of his NPG/3rdEye band members have spent more time at PP than she ever did. Anyway for me it's not about his band members or former wives/loves. If someone other than Sheila said these things I'd feel the same way. Just like when Funkenberry has this air of 'I've got the weight of the world on my shoulders'. It's like dude, it's not about you. Stop making it all about you. Paisley Park is in your heart

Because I think she is cool, smart and talented. I don't get some of this negativity of those wanting to celebrate the legacy of his music and share with the fans, or this being upset about "First Lady of PP" quote either! LMAO, really? Why are some of you all so bothered with that anyways? Who cares? They are all grieving also. I guess they are all just supposed to go on with their lives and act like he never existed. Would that make you all happier then? Oh well, some folks just won't ever be satisfied. [Edited 10/24/16 7:52am] Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~
