What happened to Flyte Tyme?

They sold all their buildings and just have an office in the LA area. Jimmy shows pictures of all his gear stored in a warehouse. I know they are far from being broke and selling their buildings was clearly business decisions. I was wondering was it more cost effective to use local studios rather than owning one with huge overhead. They made so much great music I would hate to see them fade away

Where is this picture of a warehouse? Where did you see that they sold their buildings?

"All their buildings". They didn't have an office park full of them, they were just in an office park, in Edina if memory serves. It was rather non-descript, actually, which - in Edina, who needs to advertise anything? (The joke in Edina is that it stands for Every Day I Need Attention.)

I'd read a couple of years ago that they finally moved to Los Angeles, in Studio City. As far as the warehouse, it's not unreasonable that any large company like that would have a studio. You can't keep all of your equipment, mementos, gifts, signage, etc in one place all the time. It sure wasn't Paisley Park. Of course selling a building is a business decision. It's a business decision to either get rid of something you're not using, not going to use, or just don't need anymore. All of that affects business.

Not sure about the whole "local studios...." etc comment. Y'all overthinkin' it. And where did you come up with them fading away? Sorry, did I miss where Flyte Tyme was ceasing business? Are Jam and Lewis just retiring all of a sudden? People move site locations all the time. I think they held the Minneapolis torch as long as they could. The music business landscape is so vastly different than 20 years ago, it makes more sense for them to be in the thick of it in L.A. Actually, I always pictured them moving to New York instead of L.A. as a home base. You don't walk in L.A in a suit and hat. But you sure to fuck can in NY.

PS To JudasLChrist, if you search #FlyteTymeWarehouse on Twitter, there are a very small handful of pictures. I went back 2 years on Jam's Twitter, and the most recent pics of this warehouse was just about that long ago. In fact, the first hashtag mention was a tweet in reply to James Ingram, I think (or Peabo Bryson).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

they owned the facility in Edina and sold it. they moved to Santa Monica and left 3 years ago. I stumbled across this video on youtube. I was wondering how they are recording these days. according to their website they are still accepting demos at their Beverly Hills office
