"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Okay.. got it, heard it!

No mention of Sheila E.
Susannah's two short stories about Vanity goes as following:

The first time Susanah met Prince was at a Warner Bros. Christmas party. She was just out of High School. She walked in to see Prince and vanity standing by a wall together. She walked up to Prince and introduced herself and said she was Wendy's twin sister. Prince was like "Ahhh, Wendy's twin sister you say" Vanity reached down and pinched her cheeks and said "You are so cute, look at how fat your cheeks are!" (Quest love and the others laughed and said it was shade) lol.

At Vanity's last rehearsal for Purple Rain, the day she was leaving the Prince camp for good, Vanity was walking out and saw Susanah walking in,
( Noooo! Vanity go back! bawl Lol sorry, huge Vanity fan here ) Vanity went over to her and said "You're gonna have the best time ever here!" And left.. Susanah said the statement in a voice that sounded like Vanity was being sarcastic. She said she could see Prince and he shook his head at her, and she looked at Vanity like "Why do you keep talking to me woman?" (Quest and the rest laughed again at the shades thrown.)

It was after that incident they started flirting with each other. Dez had a bday party the weekend after vanity left in August. Prince saw Susanah sitting on the couch and sat next to her and asked her if she dreamt about him last night. She said yes because she really had dreamt about him, and that's where it all started. Prince bought her a bed as a gift when he found out her bed had a giant sink hole in it. Prince heard her demo and asked her if she wanted to work with him. She said it never occurred to her that he was courting her when he bought her the bed until later.

Quest asked her how many cassettes tapes did she receive of songs he wrote for her. Was it like when he wrote Lisa her song and gave her the tape of "Strange way Of saying I love You" Susanah said she didn't receive any actual tapes like Lisa did, he would just call her into the studio and make her sit in on his recordings for certain songs. Then they would drive around and listen to it in their cars.

Dez, Dr Fink, and Bobby Z touched on the Rolling Stones and The Time's infamous incidents (which I think everyone here already knows about, although their account sounded much more interesting than any written words.) They also talked about the grueling rehearsals. They sounded as if they appreciated it in the long run. The band developed a special musical bond because of it.

Hope that helps. biggrin

Pandora is playing this on repeat until tomorrow at 1PM. I wish I could forward or reverse the interview. I keep missing the Wendy and Lisa part. The parts I have heard are great!

I am sure the gruesome rehearsals made all of them better musicians and also overcome the challenges too.

I want Rolling Stones to do an interview on Wendy and Lisa and Susannah.

cool interview, but questlove could have spent the whole thing with W&L alone. I wanted to know about their relationships with P in the 90s, what they thought of the NPG, In This Bed I Scream, Roadhouse Garden, the eventual reunions on Smiley and the BRITS, what they made of how Prince had changed, and what they think of his death. Wendy's cool and all, Lisa is the shit.

I agree. I wanted to hear more about the time leading up to the end of the revolution too

Very true. I would like to know what they thought of NPG and Prince's albums after the Rev.

I agree -- hopefully there'll be a follow-up with W&L.

-

I enjoyed the stories of P coming to visit the W&L and Susannah in LA around 1984 -- just Prince alone on the plane, wearing jeans, being picked up by W&L at the airport, staying on the couch in their grubby little house (with the non-private bathroom that caused P some stress -- LOL). Those "regular guy" experiences are fun. And I cracked up when the other woman in the studio (I didn't catch her name) marvelled at Prince sleeping on the couch in a house full of women smile

-

Also the description of P's early bedroom at his house, with the blackout window blind and the bed covered in big comforters and pillows and such where he'd look like a tiny little lump in. Questlove was saying he pictured P's bedroom like the satin-sheets picture on the 1999 album; W&L chuckled and were like, uh no.

lol lol "Can someone please get these cats off me! when Prince slept on the couch just totally had me laughing til I nearly peed my pants! The description of the bedroom and them calling him "My Little Pony" has resulted in that theme song being on repeat in my head!...I will never be able to see P and a pegasus without singing that song! and The Food Fight war between P camp and The Time LAWD eek to have been a fly on the the wall with a tiny GoPro camera strapped to me would have been great television viewing! Especially when they said Prince took Jesse as a POW eek and had him handcuffed to the coatrack but then Jesse pulled an incredible hulk type stunt and broke free and eek Prince was GONE! lol I can sooo picture Prince hoofing in those heels cause they made it sound like Jesse was beyond pissed about it and I think he would have pummeled the tiny purple one if he had of gotten his hands on him! lol

e

Prince getting confident and comfortable with people watching him dance, by having the band sit in a room with him for hours as he danced. They just stared and watched him until he became confident and comfortable being watched.
